checkout the Samsung 51F5000 thread ... seems to be the bang for the back plasma tv that is locally available today - 51-inch full HD TV priced at PhP 30,273 for cash purchase ... selling like hotcakes to PDVD members, and i just purchased one last weekend, but for delivery sa Sunday as wala pa akong paglagyan at time this week

i'll post a non-expert review and my first impressions once i have it installed ... my point of comparison will be the Panasonic 42PV8 that it will be replacing
Marantz NR1200, MartinLogan Motion 20 digital audio setup, and Sony A80J

my cuzin just bought that f5000 the pQ is nice but the light output of the panel is pretty much letdown...w/dat madali ma wash-out yung image nya in a normal living room..dapat lights-out talaga para mapa-kinabangan yung F5000 lol...at daylight yung F5000 ay parang personal mirror lol...at daylight dapat naka dynamic or torch mode yung F5000 w/c is not advisable for a plasma panel.

Sad news panasonic will stop selling plasmas by march 2014 http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/8/4818468/panasonic-to-exit-plasma-business-this-financial-year-report

maybe vt and zt series prices will start to fall down, now that is good news for me hehehe

1.  Samsung bright plasmas are still available.   The 8500 series is pretty impressive even though the ZT image still looks blacker and better.
2.  But my plan is to get the last VT or ZT when production ends while waiting out for OLED prices to become affordable.  However, even with my current VT2 and VT30, puedeng puede na assuming they last for many more years.

locally distributed units are: 42/50X50, 50XT50, 65ST50. I think the 50X60, 60S60, and other 60 series Panasonic are grey units. (I'm not sure ah)

Kahit grey or blue or red or yellow or pink, basta tipong 60K na VT series and at least 50 inch.   ;D

They seem to have a good quantity of leftover 50ST50s for around $700 in the US.

In 2012, gusto ng Panny 50ST50, walang available. Nabuwisit ako, Sammy plasma 51E550 binili ko in 2012.

That's right.

It's not just plasma vs. LED.  It's really Japan vs. South Korea.

http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/08/panasonic-end-plasma-tv/

How true?  Because of Samsung?

Maraming reasons.  Samsung is just one of them.

How true?  Still no official confirmation from Panny. But this time, it looks like Panny's plasma exit will push through.

This was Henry Hauser's response (US Panny Marketing VP) last April 2013 about the rumors:

"Reports that Panasonic will no longer develop and manufacture Plasma HDTVs are not correct.

"This week in New York City, Panasonic demonstrated the latest development of our gapless Plasma panel technology in our 2013 Smart VIERA ZT Series Plasma HDTV. The technology incorporated into our ZT Series Studio Master Panel will be the basis for continued plasma display panel development and production. While the Smart VIERA ZT Series introduces a new level of Plasma picture quality, we believe there is still room for further improvement and intend to continue to research ways to take our Plasma technology to even higher levels where it also has the potential to be applied in our other Plasma series in the future.

"VIERA Plasma HDTVs continue to set the standard for picture quality and black level excellence and the ZT Series is another example of the continued ability of Plasma to evolve and continue to deliver a best-in-class HDTV."
http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/12/panasonic-buries-rumors-of-plasma-tv-death/

Ang tikas ng sagot noon, ha...  :D

This time, the latest round of reports first came from Reuters on Oct. 8, 2013, which cited confidential sources.   Panny has again released an official denial:

• The content of the [Reuters] report is not something that was announced by Panasonic.
• The company is looking into a variety of options regarding the strategy for the PDP [plasma display] business, but nothing has been decided at this stage.
• The company is looking into a variety of options regarding the utilization of the Amagasaki Factory, but nothing has been decided at this stage.

http://www.whathifi.com/news/panasonic-denies-reports-it-will-end-plasma-production-in-2014

Notice the big difference between the two responses.

In April, it was a categorical denial from Panny, with a clear declaration of its intent to continue research and improvement.  This October, instead of denying it categorically, Panny can only say, "nothing has been decided."  :(

So in my opinion, mukhang totoo na ito.

Earliest confirmation will be at the January 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas (CES 2014).

Sir barrister you are right too, sammy led tv is much more popular than their plasma tv lineup ang maganda lang sa sammy is that their tryin to flash-out all the bad things about plasma and that's what their F8500 plasma is all about.....

Definitely Japan vs South Korea.  Hindi lang sa consumer electronics but also in terms of car, shipbuilding and oil & gas business.  Too tough to compete against a country where the gov't allegedly subsidizes potential loss, not to mention the salary level is still quite lower compared to Japanese standards - the Koreans are also very hardworking and driven to beat the Japanese in particular.

Pero in the nearly weekly shootout that I and 2 of my colleagues do at Best Buy or Frys (where else can we go if the ladies are in the mall?  ;D), we are still unanimous in this.

ZT60 is best, 8500 is 2nd, VT60 is third.  Kung cost performance ang usapan, pinakamataas ang VT60 at current market prices (it seems they had to reduce the price because the 8500 is better). :)
