hi bro jojit, i went together with my mom first at Megamall:
BOSE - we tested a video and audio and we we're impressed  :D but they were selling it only as set  :'( w/c was pricey and way over my budget.

DAI-ICHI - we tested the Blue Room episode of Jet Li they only have a 5.1 speaker system worth 15k but I'm a little hesitant about the quality??

JBL - we tested the Blue Room episode and it was okay compared to the DAI-ICHI. they have a set of speakers and sub worth 60k..

Thanks a lot for the suggestion of doing auditions, now my mom also want me to upgrade our HT hehe.
I'm thinking of assembling my own HT starting with the speakers then sub then receiver and dvd upscaler..

Am i on the right track?  ;D

good way to start, but try to go to shangrila mall, there are more specialty av shops there, including one of our suking tindahan here (sights and sounds), more speaker and receiver selection to choose from, so you dont have to go store to store, just be in one store to look for the best possible combination and price preference. they have wharfes, mission, polks and other high end stuff for speakers, and onkyo, yamaha for receivers.

i think if you get lets say an onkyo 606 (27K) and lets say a set of 5 speakers from the mission mv series (25k) plus lets say a us audio sub 12 incher (8k), total is 60k and you have all you need. except source equipment (ie dvd, ps3 or nmt).

goodluck.

I'd suggest you start with the receiver then build from there. ;)

Thanks sirs!

Actually i'm looking at contacting sir avshop for his wharfedale n h&k set, i'll inqiure if they have an installment basis  ;D

As for the receiver, I might be getting the Yamaha avr with hdmi from the for sale post.

Sir jojit,
If i went for the receiver first, can i hook it up to my sony ht?  ;D

Actually I think it's better to get the speakers first before the receiver, that way you absolutely know how you're going to power the speakers, and not think "Up to what kind of speakers can this receiver power?"

sir does the walls in a room any way affect the sound of the HT?
Our ceiling and walls are wood and the sounds from the subwoofer creates rumble w/c is not pleasant to the ears hehe.

definitely it will affect the sound coming out of your system. a correctly acoustically treated room will sound awesome compared to a non treated room even if you are using identical equipment/s and settings. i think some of our resident experts will chime in for the nitty gritties.

tnx sir. so when you say acoustically treated room, it means that the walls and ceilings are "padded"? Can i ask sir your setup for your HT room?  :)

to treat a room is a combination of installing these things (afaik, baka may iba pa, i am not so knowledgeable about acoustics too): diffusers, bass traps and acoustic panels (this is what you term as padded).

i am also in the process of installing acoustic panels and base traps to my room. i order the panels from @toslink, he sells these panels with different dimensions to suit any room type, lately he has made corner bass traps too. here is his link:

http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=84348.0

frankly speaking, i already installed two panels just behind my front speakers and it is paying huge dividends, it just make my ht sound better (can't describe it). so i plan to install two more panels at my side walls then two corner bass traps. hopefully these will significantly improve my room's acoustics. i have not installed diffusers but cabinets with dvds and heavy curtain drapes can help diffuse sound, of course not as good as real diffusers but it does its job.

ah so even curtains has a purpose  ;D our sala has curtains but the light see-thru type.
In your suggestions above, what will lessen the "yanig" of our sala kasi pgmalakas yung volume nsa (vol 25 in my HTiB),
yumayanig na yung sala, which for me is not good kse parang noise lang cya and nasasapawan yung sounds..

usually the sound that makes our house shake so to speak is the bass the low frequencies. so to lessen that i think installing bass traps will help. meron si @toslink. look at the link may pictures dun. and may review din si sir toslink regarding the improvement of his ht when he installed the bass traps.

Thanks for providing me the link sir!  :)
I've texted him already inquiring about his bass traps. Sir can i see a pic on the installed panels in your HT room, our sala kasi is rectangular with 3 openings (opening to our lobby, opening to the stairs and opening to the dining area).. should i close the areas going to the lobby and the stairs? or install a sliding plastic divider or glass?

Just drop by at Listening Room at Shangri-la Mall. Talk with Sir Sam Chua and he happily gave me a quotation for my HT upgrade.

Budget is 60K

 Receiver - Denon 1509
 Speaker - Mission MV-8 (Front)
               Mission MV-C (Center)
               Mission MV-2 (Rear)
 Sub      - US Audio 250w
he also gave me an installment of 0% interest for 12 months  :)

Is the package above much better than:
    wharfedale 9.6, 9cm and 9.1 package, psw111 and hk245
any opinions will be very much appreciated!

I'd vote for the wharfedale 9.6, 9cm and 9.1 package, velodyne subs are also good, but if  youre gonna get the wharf 9.6 go for a sub not smaller than 15''.. good luck!
