I miss my Infinity 4.5s driven by the ARC D79/ Threshold Stasis combo.
Old school pa rin.
Well, that was some 30 years ago.
Have been out of the audio loop na so I can only talk about “old stuff”.
Am a soundstage guy so my partiality to planars … but you need lotsa room to let these breathe. I once hauled a pair of Tympani’s in my smallish bedroom (which was my listening room then) much to my wife’s annoyance.
Didn’t work.
Replaced them with the old Quads. Fantastic midrange reproducer but had to let these go since I was wary of it’s reliability.
Downsized to SMGa’s. Loved the Maggie sound so I got the MG 111’s when I had a bigger dedicated listening room. For me, this broke the myth of planars lacking the lows.
Given the adequate power (yes, these babies are hungry), the 7.5 sq foot area can push air enough to get those lows.
I still have the 111s but been hibernating for some time now.
Right now, my daily driver is a pair of Onkyo Liverpool 2 bookselves.
I’m happy with these. Reminds me of my old SL6s.
These rotate with the Sony La Voces.
