Hello,

When I heard this in my friend's setup, I did not stop searching until I found one. Its been with me for almost four years. I have other speakers, but this is my favorite. Just needs to be driven by a REALLY powerful amp  8)

Newbi with a question.  I have a pair of Celestion 33 speakers I bought in 81 and have just used them as stereo speakers (music).

I have now just purchased a plasma HDTV, Blueray DVD player and a surround sound system and was wondering if I would be better with the old Celestion speakers for front L & R or go with the new speakers?

Celestion,  Continuous sine wave 25w,  50w peak music power,  impedance 4-8 ohms. Woofer, mid range and tweeter

Boston Horizon MCS 90 speakers,  10-100w,  Nominal impedance 8 ohms Woofer and tweeter.

Receiver/amp Denon AVR-589. Output 75w 8 ohms front, center 75w 8 ohms, surround 75w 8ohms.

Thanks for any help

If these are small bookshelves, try setting them up as "SMALL" and see how it goes, if it fails try using them as surrounds...

#1 whats your budget range?

#2 try to audition the hafler amp/preamp combo at the marketplace. also the rotel and cambridge amps.
nad c325bee (im not sure if the latest model -nad c326bee is now available in the local market)

#3 your celestion may be hard to drive but there are instances that tube amps match well with hard to drive speakers. ive read before that the famous bbc ls3/5a (83db) matched well with a tube amp. even the legendary nad3020 20wpc was able to drive it but to moderate levels only. whats good with tube amp is its "built-in"/natural ability of soft clipping (unlike ss amps)

btw what is your listening preference (music genre) and volume level (loud, very loud, or moderate?) if its very loud, i suggest you change speakers of higher sensitivity. whats the maximum SPL? its usuall indicated at the back of your speaker. also, kindly post the size of your listening area too.

Used to have the original celestion 3s. The one hifi reviewer Martin Colloms also used as his budget reference to review other loudspeakers. It is also rated by Stereophile ( class E-for Entry level) in the early 90's.

Hi Sir southpeak,

That's exactly Sir sandawa's words when I ask his opinion about them. :)

Kaya immediately nag leave ako from office to pick them up. Buti na lang, malapit lang Angeles City from Nueva Ecija. Siguro kung taga Manila yung seller wala na akong abutan. :)

They are not mint, but still in very good shape. :) Currently driven by Sansui AU-D907F curetesy of Sir sandawa.

Yes will try to post pics soon.

Congrats on your purchase. Enjoy :D.

Anyone know of the Celestion 7 bookshelf?  Circa late 80's early 90's ata ito.  Are Celestions higher end or entry level speakers?

Might be able to get old unused stock of this speaker and am not sure if its worth it to get it or if its better to just buy new entrylevel speakers.  Should the technology have improved since then?

Thanks for anyone who can help.

What kind of duty is it in your HT?  Fronts or surrounds?
