Sige na totoo na ;D. Gusto ko talagang maniwala na totoo---ang mahal niya kasi eh. Dapat talaga gumawa ako ng Cap-Rack for the BG's tapos sinaksak ko ng dalawang linggo.

Garp,

Ano benefit BG after the run in pre??

Garp!

Since we are into caps boot-camp, meron ako design na ginagawa for stretching caps.  ;D It uses an LM555 as a pulse source, a power transistor as a switch and a hi wattage resistor as discharge load.

Parang rjm's Cap-Rack din pero synched charge and discharge cycle. Hehehe, hope it works.  ;D ;D ;D

Uy ok yan...baka naman puwedeng makakopya ng schematics pag andyan na...alam mo naman ako hanggang kopya lang di marunong ng design.  :)

Yun din gusto ko malaman from experience. Pero ang comment ng mga nababasa ko net---cleaner sound, better dynamics.

Look Ma no opamps! My NAD now uses a different DAC and no opamps in the output stage. Problem now is how I'm going to mount this inside the chassis. DAC is TDA1545 using passive I/V conversion (thanks to Yeo of diyparadise for the circuit).

Garp, ano ba advantage ng walang opamps?  ::)

Garp,

Thanks for the tip on where to find the TDA1541 DAC chip.

Can you please send me a schematic of the DAC (TDA1541 and op-amps) you will be using.

Sir Audioslave, try mo tube CD baffer like MF, try mo manghiram you will notice big difference. Don't focuse to much on your CD player hehehe( Atty. wag mo paginitan CD player mo hehehe) Try to use 'yung ginanagamit natin na Interconnect sa mga Shoot-out (DIY silver) then 'yung XLO na speaker wires (like ng kay Akyat, Kimpao & Hans) wag na 'yung sa akin na try mo na hehehe (wala ka mabibili 'nun dito).
BTW, have you tried NOS tube tweak?

Sir Garp, JojoD,

Have you tried using tube instead of OPamps sa CD player like the design of Jolida CD player?

Sir,

I did, but didn't liked it so I removed it.  ;D Probably due to the SRPP cct I used.

This was done in my Onkyo surplus cdp. For some reasons I'd like to give it another try but time is so scarce for me right now.  :)

you got me wrong, man. pass nako dyan sa mga CD Players na yan. pangit pagkalokohan yan. it's not worth spending so much for any tweak which in the end would only give you a marginal sonic difference. I'd rather invest on the software than tweak my mid-priced player. after hearing all the better CDPs out there, I finally realized that mine is a perfectly fine player. no need to tweak.... instead, i would be more than willing to spend more on tubes to experience the different sonic characteristics of the various tubes out there.

sabi nga ni iceman, pare-pareho lang tunog ng mga CDPs na yan.  ;D

Hi audioslave,

There are opinions kasi na opamps muck up the sound which is why some use discrete and lately tubes in the fingal gain stage of cd players. I use passive I/V dun sa DAC kasi I wanted to hear first what passive sounds like and then later try active stage. Sa passive kasi you have one less issue to worry about that potentially, if not implemented optimally, can ruin the sound. So parang its that cliche in audio na simpler is better. Many prefer an active stage but the debate naman is whether to use opamps (largely espoused byThorsten's camp) or discrete (Jocko Homo). And there's that opamps vs. tubes din. Labu labu na masakit sa ulo sundan.  ;D

Hi Bruno,

I don't have a schematic yet pero there are many online. I'm leaning towards pedja's (http://users.verat.net/~pedjarogic/audio/tda1541a_dac/tda1541a_dac_rev.htm) kasi he uses the TDA1541A with an active I/V using opamps. Likewise Thorsten's discussed the use of OPA660 or OPA627 sa diyaudio biased as class A, mukang simple lang. I'll just copy how pedja wired up the TDA1541A (take note of pin ob/Twc to set your appropriate data input format) and his power supply using shunt regulators (TL431 or LM431). Yung active I/V hanap ako separately.

Good luck!

Sige bruno pag may nakita share ko. Although yung nasa TNT convertus ata uses only a one resistor for passive 30 ohms ata--you can't get any simpler than that. I tried the opamp route using datasheet pero I think I'm doing it wrong kasi sobrang distorted. Oh well hanap uli.

Hi guys,

She's back.... after years of rest.  ;D

It's a Pioneer PD-F705 25+1 CD player I bought some time in April 1997. Ok naman tunog nya nun kaya nga binili ko na plus the added comfort of 25 discs in a changer. However, as the millenium closes in.... medyo napag iiwanan na ang kanyang sonics so hindi na nagagamit and was put in the bodega for several years.

Maybe it's the holiday or the weather, so I decided to unpack and inspect what's inside and had a big smile in my face.  ;D

After cleaning and drive shaft lubrication, I was surprised that it still works. But still disappointed with the way it sounds.  :(

As can be seen, it has a moving transport, something similar to automotive cd changers.

Upon inspection of the circuit board, I was surprised to find what may have been the culprit. In the LPF section, a JRC4558DD was used, yes it has a double D (the inferior version of the JRC4558D, duh!), and a ROHM BA15218 in the output buffer.

Datasheet shows that the BA15218 is an excellent opamp during it's time but the JRC4558DD is just so full of %$#@. I try not to think about it but this player wasn't cheap when I bought it.  ;D So with a warmed-up soldering iron and de-soldering tool, off they went! As always, psu bypassing took most of the tweak time.

I encircled the lpf opamp in red and the buffer in yellow, I tried several opamps from Motorola, On Semi, Analog Devices (AD), Burr-Brown, etc.

I was itrigued with the AD opamps since they were renowned to be tube sounding. However, when I used AD chips on both lpf and buffer stages, the sound lost it's air, the highs were so rolled-off! When I tried Burr-Brown, the highs and mids were excellent but kinda "manipis", so I ended up mixing brands until I got what I want.  ;D

Can't believe it, mataba na may air at walang sibilance ang result.  ;D It wasn't a waste of time after all.  ;D
