I begin to wonder,  ::) if DVDs can be pirated, then even the software for DVD players can be, too. Is there a 'conspiracy' going on among the manufacturers of these DVD players?

Having a common menu for different players isn't a "conspiracy". It just means that the manufacturers of these generic players get their DVD player firmware from the same company.

It's like different brands of PCs having the same Operating System i.e. WINDOWS, OS X

It's like different brand of cellphones having the same operating system i.e. Symbian OS.

It's like different brand of PDA having the same operating system i.e. PALM OS, WINDOWS CE,

if there's a conspiracy going on, it is western firms exploiting Chinese manufacturers. China-made hifi gear sold at $1,000 per unit outside due to a pricing system fixed by US partner firms are reportedly produced at a cost roughly $100 in southern China's sweatshops. those generic equipment manufacturers who sell us DVD players at P1,600 are the good guys - giving their poor neighbors access to new technologies we could never afford if we allow greedy MNCs to dictate on pricing.
thesis - antithesis - synthesis
