My first dvd i bought is the Bad Boys II 2 Discs Limited Edition (Philippines) with a 12" figure of Will Smith.  Actually i bought this title not for the dvd but for the figure dat comes with it as i am a die hard action figure collector.  ;D

nice story you got there keilu.

i advise that you keep your Wizard of Oz (r3). some of the features about the filming controversy are not included in the new release.

I did not buy my 1st DVD.  My 1st DVD was a gift:

I had this before I had a DVD player so it was the lone DVD on the shelf for months.  My next batch of DVD's (around 6) were also given to me.  Again, I had these even before I had a DVD player.  So, for a few weeks, I had 7 DVD's on the shelf with no DVD player.

What Were The Very First DVDs That You Owned?
« Reply #316 on: Jan 09, 2008 at 01:23 PM »
Do you remember the first DVDs that you owned that started a hobby and a near religion?

I remember back in 2002, I chanced upon a sale at Video City.  Bought 3 ex-rental dvds priced at P300.  They were:

Sudden Death ( Van Damme )
What Planet Are You From
Wedding Planner

But that still didn't get me into this hobby as those were my only DVDs until 2005 when I bought BATMAN BEGINS.  Followed by IRON GIANT, PEACEMAKER, THE MUMMY and BROKEN ARROW.  The rest is history.

How about you guys?

first legit ( ;D) DVD I bought was Bram Stoker's Dracula Superbit edition, around the second quarter of 2005. I started taking interest in HT around January of that year; bought a few 'jack sparrow' dvds initially and then was exposed to Astrovision  ;)

I don't remember exactly anymore but I think it was in 2002.
I bought A Knight's Tale.

However, it was in 2003 when Warner dropped the price of their snapper dvd's to 299 that I started to splurge.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

It's been a hobby ever since.

THE FIRST BATCH of DVDs I got my hands on came from Amazon.com and it was 1998, among which are: MOONRAKER JAMES BOND & VERTIGO. The subsequent batches included KURUSAWA'S RAN, THE TRUMAN SHOW, FLASH GORDON & MAD MAX. None of those I have kept till today because they've undergone fresh remastering after many years and then released in improved editions. For me DVDs democratized the perfect-video home theater experience. Whether one is a certified millionaire who owns a 10-bit Video DACS-equipped DVD player with a matching 50-inch RPTV or a 9-inch CRT front projector, or a middle class bloke cum technically-minded nerdy - anybody could grab after a DVD disk and he could enjoy the same video quality that his more privileged neighbor initially enjoys from the laserdisk or US-import VHS originals.

U.S.Marshalls as freebie for the Pioneer dvd player I bought.  - 1998 or 1999.  The next dvds I bought were:  L.A. Confidential, Face Off and The Matrix.  Ang mahal pa ng presyo noon.  1,000 to 1,500 ang presyo sa Greenhills.

hirap pa maghanap.  very limited titles na available.  puro warner lang tapos snapper case pa.  if you wanted a particular r1 title in those days, you either had to order online or find specialty shops like cd warehouse.  used to order from dvdexpress.
