Hi, is there any available Generic Players capable of playing either SACD or DVD-A or both? Just curious. ;D

I have the Philips DVP5500 and it plays SACD's but not DVD-A. It's not generic but it costs only under 6K. The video performance is pretty average though. I got this one and the Philips DVP642K primarily for playing DivX videos. Sound output performance, even via optical or coax, is so-so and I would not recommend this as a player for serious music listening.

Sirs,

Need help please. I have this Philips DVP5500s which is suppose to play SACDs.
Then i had a Chesky SACD multi-channel hybrid recording (Chuck Mangione)
which i was quite happy listening to on the DVP5500s. This was until i bought
another multi-channel hybrid recording of Spyro Gyra (Heads Up label - a division of Telarc)
that was treated by the player as AudioCD, no multi-channel, no SACD icon displayed on
video whatsoever. I returned the CD hoping it was fake and be exchanged by the store.
They did and i picked a different label Multi-Channel Hybrid SACD recording (Pentatone Classics label)
just to make sure. To my disappointment the same thing happened, no video display of SACD icon,
no multi-channel, just plain stereo AudioCD. This does not happen everytime i play the
Chesky labeled SACD i mentioned earlier though i'm now having doubts with
the Philips DVP5500s.

razzahsleb,

try accessing your players options menu, it might be set to read hybrids as regular CDs and not as SACDs... you did mention that it reads the Chesky Hybrid SACD as an SACD but it's worth a shot...

by the way, where od you buy your SACDs?

Sir Jeckjeck,
Thanks sir, i'll give it a shot.
The Chesky hybrid SACD was purchased last year from Music One Greenbelt while the
HeadsUp and Pentatone Classics labels i got last week from Montage Greenbelt.
Salamat ulit sir.
