March 4, 2006 - Signs have been pointing to a DVD re-release of Disney's 1981 animated film The Fox and the Hound for a while. The 2000 Gold Collection disc was quietly discontinued earlier in the year and a sequel is set to bow before 2006 ends. Now, thanks to Mike from MadonnaDownload.com, we have confirmation that The Fox and the Hound will be reissued as a 25th Anniversary Edition DVD sometime "this summer." This scan of an ad inside the Chicken Little DVD reveals that much, but nothing else as far as the film presentation or bonus features are concerned.

Wow! Ive been waiting for this. I just got my Lady and the Tramp 50th anniv. Kelan release date ng Fox and the Hound?

Many UD readers have been looking forward to the upcoming re-release of The Fox and the Hound, one of the more popular Disney animated classics not in the best-selling Platinum line. We've gotten in some underwhelming details on the 25th Anniversary Edition, which is now scheduled to street on October 10th. The new: the movie will boast digitally restored and remastered picture, an interactive "Forest Friendship" hide-and-seek set-top game, and a DVD storybook featurette titled "New Best Friends." In addition, the disc will include a sneak peek of forthcoming DTV The Fox and the Hound 2, a sing-along of "The Best of Friends", two bonus shorts, an all-important cardboard slipcover, and more to be announced. Those hoping for a feature presentation faithful to its 1981 theatrical exhibitions will be disappointed to know that preliminary specs peg the movie as being in 1.33:1 fullscreen and Dolby Digital 5.1.
