Series or Full Length Movie?
« on: Jul 28, 2006 at 04:20 AM »
Just a poll with our DVD watching community: Which do you prefer watching? Series or Full Length Movie.

Recently while I was watching Gray's Anatomy Season 1, my preference shifted to watching series.  It has its advantages like you don't have to sit for long hours to finish just one movie.  Series are divided into episodes that you can watch for short times and can still continue on later with another episode.  Series are cut into episodes which ends one with more intrigue that you want to start with a new one.  Well, that's just me though.   :-\

I prefer collecting movies.  I only collect series I truly love.  Sometimes due to budget constraints a toss up between a movie I haven't watched yet or a series I remotely like....the movie seems to win always.

Depends on the mood, I guess. Lately, I've been hooked on Remington Steele, and in fact, finished a single season in two days. I have two more seasons waiting dun sa shelf.

I also prefer full length movies for my DVD collection.  I just get my TV series fix from other sources  (file sharing and p*****d copies).  Im not the one who will watch the series once a week on cable, masyado bitin especially if the series is really good, like Prison Break and Grey's Anatomy.  Actually pag me free time, mas napapahaba ang panood ko ng TV series than a full length movie.. ;D ;D

Definitely series for me, to the point that I've been passing on "blockbusters" I missed in theaters that have been released on DVD.

If you're really enjoying characters that you're watching, then you'll want to see more of them than just 2-3 hours. You get to "know" these characters more, so you get more invested in what's going on in their celluloid lives.

The trend of collecting TV series on DVD over films is actually picking up. Even if you check Amazon.com's current list of top 25 sellers, 16 are TV series - 64%!

I rarely watch movies... mainly because a series is a time hog, once you started one, you are drwan to it and want to watch it even if you don't have the time...

Series are more interesting and less dragging than full length movies.  No wonder, korean/taiwan telenovelas really are city time stoppers.  Maybe it is just human nature to love gossip and intrigue.  ;D

Since I'm more into Asian entertainment, I prefer movies over TV series. TV series cost more, but they have more. I just can't spend that much to buy a TV series.

I find that my recent DVD purchases have been TV series.  Like what was said by Mr. Hankey, getting more than two hours just gives you more time with the characters, and I just tend to enjoy the stories more when it feels like I "know" the characters.

Sometimes it even gets TOO addicting.  Some shows on DVD I have watched in ONE sitting: Lost Season 1; 24 Seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4; Firefly; Chappelle's Show Seasons 1 & 2; Entourage Seasons 1 & 2.  After watching the last episode of the season, (sometimes sitting in front of the screen for almost 20 hours!) I'm still thinking, "I WANT MORE!!!"
The war is over...  Now bring on the classics on HD!

I find the TV series more entertaining than watching full length movies. Especially if I'm watching the ff shows: 24, Prison Break, Supernaturals, and Smallville.

only have 3 tv series in my collection (24 season 1,  Pride & Prejudice BBC version and Yami no Matsuei).

Although i am addicted to watching tv series on cable, find myself more interested in repeat viewings of movies - except for the anime series. Would love to collect anime series/boxsets....but price is too darn restrictive for now  :P

so for me.....would rather go for movies than series  8)

I prefer movies than tv series:

a. It's very expensive buying original tv series sets [Edited by moderator: No piracy discussions/suggestions allowed on these forums]
b. Most tv series are so contrived, shallow with thin plots and have short attention span objectivity.
(Korean telenovelas, etc) For me, a waste of time.
c. Movies have more depth and substance than most tv series. You can watch your favorite movies again   and again, unlike your favorite tv series.

My wife loves watching dvd tv series such as Grey's Anatomy and One Tree Hill (which i dont watch).

Then when she started with the Desparate Housewives marathon (season one and two which was interesting) gave watching a full length movie a run for it's money but after that nothing else interested me.

We tried Entourage but thats that.

So for me i'd still pick a full length movie. ;D

Newsweek weighs in on the topic:

Why TV Is Better Than the Movies

Concluding with an ABC executive saying
"It's not just the stories on TV that are improving; they look better, too. "Some of the action that 'Lost' and '24' are doing compares to almost any feature out there," says ABC president Steve McPherson. "We're making the investment in these shows. They're not cheap. But the production gap is closing." TV is spending more money on us—and we're spending more money on TV. Gradually, homes are filling with high-definition sets that rival the cinema experience, only without the nasty carpets sticky with spilled Coke. "I still occasionally hear someone say that they don't watch television," Leary says, "and I always tell them, 'Look, I don't care what book you're reading—put it down and watch these five shows, because you really, truly don't know what you're missing'." He's right, except for one thing: only five?"

unless the series in question is truly one of a kind, like th x-files or the simpsons, i'd rather go with a full length movie.

I was never a fan of TV Series mainly because I find it too slow. I think this has got to do with my childhood attitude when reading pinoy comics, I only read those stories with "wakas", pag "itutuloy", I don't read it anymore.  ;D

For me, both! ;D

I watch TV series, co'z its very entertaining and does not eat much of your time. However, the downside is, they are not really top notch in terms of PQ and SQ.

Now, with movies, that's a different story altogether. Movies, I watch because of the PQ and SQ that my HT produces.

Just got some Classic TV Series recently:

ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS SEASON 3

THE X-FILES - THE COMPLETE SEASONS 1-9

Nice about these series are that every show is different from one another so you don't have to force yourself to follow it up with the next episode. And they're TV classics ;D

Unless it's a TV show I love, I prefer movie DVDs. :) Usually there is a trend that only the first season is the only ones worth watching (ex. Prison Break, Lost, Heroes, etc.)

At least with movies, your done and entertained after 2hours. With TV shows, you don't know where to start watching if you just want a couple of hours to spare.

Personally, an exemption is FRIENDS. :) That's the show that I can watch forever, no matter what season or episode. :)
