Oh well Pchin! That's all in the past now. It is amazing how DVD Collectors evolve--- from buying absolutely all releases, then upgrading to SE/CE, then buying Limited Editions, then elevating to HD.

That's also the difference between a "DVD collector" and an actual Movie/TV Addict who collects DVDs.

The latter buy DVDs because they like the films/series, not because it has attractive/collectible packaging.

It's actually more dangerous, since the only thing that can make them stop is... running out of shelf space.

And I'm speaking from experience.

That and $$$ too. Somehow, the easy access to films be it locally or from the internet just keep feeding the frenzy. And it's so hard to stop. And every time you willed yourself to stop, comes a Devil (as in The Devil Wears Prada R3 Gift Set) and the addiction starts all over again.

I can honestly say that 95% of my collections are because I like the movie first and would like to collect the best (in terms of collectability -LE/gift set) edition I can get.
And if the movie I like don't have good DVD edition, normally I'll pass.
The rest are blind buys/based on reviews, and my taste is "pang masa"

Though steelbook is not really new, but "The Departed" is the first steelbook released in the Philippines. Here's some of the steelbook available elsewhere that I was able to collect.

The Golden Age of DVD Collecting has passed as far as PinoyDVD members are concerned. There are only a few collectible packaging collectors left here.... Duncan, Pchin, Baby, Clea, Law, RNI and you.

i still think of DVDs as collectibles-for-display. i think my wife has understood and accepted it now

but rarely i have LEs/giftsets unopened. cant accept the fact that i bought an expensive item and can't see what's inside
