got the denon 2308 on an impulse purchase 
. a friend of mine who works in china came home the other day (via HK) for a vacation. he called me up and asked what to buy. told him to buy me the 705 but it was not available during that day. asked him to check the cambridge audio azur 640R but it was way out of my budget. though someone told me that it was priced the same as the 705 (maybe my friend asked the wrong shop ). actually i was also offered the 2807 at HK$700 more but i was so confused during that time. i need to decide immediately, kaya ang 2308 nalang ang pinili ko.
the 2308 is priced 47k SRP or 40k cash sa atin. i can pm you the price i got if u want.
Denon 28xx series is totally different breed from 23xx series.....SOUNDWISE!!!
28xx series use Denon proprietary Alpha 24 processing. Actually it starts form 28xx series and the sound goes sweeter as you go to the higher model.... we A-B'ed 2307 and 2807 when my friend are buying a receiver, about 8 mos. ago....even on our untrained and probably neophyte audiophile ears, we can hear a big difference from the sound output from the two, whether it is a 2-channel listening to DTS movie.....the 2807 can even drive the Dynes Audience 52 with grace and poise, and it sounded much different when using the 2307.... During our A-B session, we used B&W 6series of speakers since it is the existing speakers of my friend....I just ask our friend from the shop to try it with the Dynes since I've heard this Dynes sound awful on some entry level Yamaha's, Onkyo's Pioneer's and Denon's...na-ninipisan ako sa tunog nya, kung di ka well informed sa ganitong hobby eh sasabihin mo na walang kwentang speaker yang Dynaudio
...but it is different on 2807.....Our friend on the shop even hook the dynes to an Integrated Amp that is more than 3X the price of the 2807... we can hear the difference in sound but it is not that big considering the price gap....our friend told us that the sound difference is due only to the delivery of power from the expensive amp, but the sound quality is very marginal since the processor of denon is very good already....he even said, if I hook this denon to a power Amp, put a blind fold on you and listen to your choice of music, you wont probably know which is which........
My friend bought the 2807......he is just planning to buy the 2307 at that time because of the price difference....Now his Cambridge Azur 540R AVR is donated already to his younger sibling....hehehehe We A-B'ed it also using his B&W's on his living room.....and the sound is very very different..... Maybe the Cambridge needs another brand of speaker to compliment its characteristics.....
Now if you ask me which I will choose between the old 2807 and the new 2308..... I will still choose the Denon 2807......2308 still doesnt use the AL24 processor, its processor is still the same with the 2307, just upgraded the video processor and HDMI capability....Soundwise, 2807 for me is still the better choice.....
But it is just me....hehehehe
