Madaling araw na ako nakatulog … I had to make a big rearrangement of furniture, followed by re-calibration with the SVS AS-EQ1 sub equalizer and Audyssey MultEQ. I didn’t do the MultEQ Pro calibration yet cuz I want to wait till all the speakers are set up. Besides, the Pro calibration takes a very long time. As an aside, I first tried to run MultEQ alone, without re-doing the SVS sub equalization and the bass sucked big-time. Had to re-do everything – the SVS AS-EQ1 has a huge contribution but it needs to be set up properly.
I was only able to test the Audyssey DSX “Wide” speaker set-up, using my JBL floorstander. Watched some movie and concert clips. Initial impression is that for movies, panning from side to side is eerily accurate. The movie becomes more realistic. For both movies and music, the soundstage is expanded by a big amount. You feel surrounded by the sound. I can’t wait to see what the “Height” speakers will do, aside from the full 11.4 setup.
I already have a vision on how to set up the rest of the speakers and I think it’s going to be pretty awesome. A whole new “surround sound” experience but baka one to two more weeks before I get everything set up properly. Need to buy new speakers, run wires, fabricate new speaker mounts and then run MultEQ Pro.
The Denon 4810 has a very similar interface to the 3808. In fact, the 3808 seems to have a more responsive menu – parang mas nahihirapan ang 4810 with HDMI handshake. There are a couple of new menu options, particularly for the Audyssey features and they are pretty cool. Otherwise, sound quality is about the same because they have the same DACs. The 4810 also has better video processing but I don’t use that because all processing is handled by my DVDO.
A minor complaint is that the 4810 doesn’t have the standard spacing between speaker plugs. That means I can’t use my “twin” banana plugs.
Looks like the 3808 and probably two pairs of Paradigm ADP-370 surround speakers are going to go …
