My further impressions of these speakers --

They have 2 x 11" woofers and one of them handles frequencies from 25 Hz to 90 Hz. In other words, one of the drivers acts as a true subwoofer.

The problem is that the speakers are acting as fronts and subwoofers and these have different requirements for location. You need to locate the fronts for the best imaging. You need to locate the subs for the deepest extension, without boominess.

In my room, without any Audyssey MultEQ room correction, the speakers are incredibly boomy. With the room correction applied, the speakers are excellent. In most "audiophile" rooms, however, there's no electronic room correction and unless these rooms are huge and have very good acoustic treatment, the speakers will be boomy.

If you have speakers like these, you need a huge room (so you can locate the speakers far from walls and you have lots and lots of location options) or you use electronic room correction like Audyssey MultEQ. My room is already pretty huge and yet, it's not big enough for these speakers and that's why electronic room correction is needed.

Actually, these are the Maestro Utopias in the 2010 Hifi Show. AV Driver brought in only one pair and that's the one that I have.

Congrats again. :) I've heard that system too, and I also love that setup. I prefer the straight SS Bryston sound over the Avid + VTL combo, though. I'm a sucker for deep soundstages with profound layering... something I encounter more often with higher-end SS gear versus the wide and diffused soundstage that I perceive with most valve gear (albeit the airier and more euphonic presentation of the latter). The typically higher damping factor and current capacity also makes gear matching easier. I know I might get flamed for saying these.

I think valve gear can hide CD's imperfections quite well, but I prefer SS with studio master / dvd-a / sacd / vinyl (of course, that's just me). :) Tubes have their advantages as well, and I appreciate them too. I just prefer SS, overall.

Thanks for the pics! :)

That's the Stella Utopia EM. The main difference is that it can go down to 22 Hz while the Maestro goes down to 25 Hz.

What's more interesting for me is that huge center speaker in the back. That's the Viva Utopia. Yun ang gusto ko.  :) :) ;D ;D

Magkaiba ang drivers. Mas mataas din ang Stella. I haven't heard the Stellas yet but I suspect they're very similar to the Maestros but they can go deeper and they are designed for bigger rooms, tipong mga 50 to 60 square meters.

Mapapansin mo sa Maestro, napupuno niya ang kwarto kahit stereo lang and parang di sya hirap, kahit laksan mo volume.

Hehe. Yun talaga ang tapon ng pera. The Grande Utopia EM is 7' high and is designed for rooms that are 65 sq meters or larger. It has a 16" woofer and can go down to 18 Hz. Before I buy that, I should build a new house! My room is too small.  ;D

New house? Magastos yan sir. Masmatipid kung mag-add ka na lang ng 1/2 storey para maging mini movie house na. May balcony na. Tipid pa.  ;D

Sir Mark,

It's a huge privilege to experience once again THE Dream Theater.  Likewise, it's an honor for JD Labs to drive those wonderful Focals!

Thank you sir!
