Is there a difference when using an upscaling dvd player with hdmi compared to a dvd player using component video considering that the panel's native resolution is just 480p? I understand that even if the DVD is upscaled to 720p by an upscaling dvd player, it will be downscaled to the native resolution of the panel which is 480p.

I am asking because I am contemplating in buying a dvd player to pair with this plasma if it is worth it to buy an upscaling dvd player or just one with progressive scan through component video.  Would the added price of the upscaling dvd player be worth it for this particular plasma tv?

IIRC you are using an htpc right? my htpc was a better scaler than my ps3 .. and ps3 is a very good upscaler already .. :D
i think it would be good for wallet to test via htpc first  ;)

The problem is my HTPC's video card has only VGA output.  :P  Maybe I'll just try it out.  Thanks!   ;D

hehehe well you could always use the vga of your tv .. one drawback is the color is quite "washed out" .. but you can always adjust the color via the settings .. this is what i did before when i forgot to buy an hdmi cable .. :D

LG P69,999. is not that attractive in price. You can get a better Panasonic TH42PV8 at a lot cheaper in price. Aside from new model, this TV is also a Japan technology.

One good thing about this TV is that it has audio input from a computer (VGA) source.  No need to buy extra speakers.   ;D

i definitely agree with the AQ of this unit... playing concerts with an "ordinary" Pio DV400 via HDMI (upscaled)... really impressive AQ & PQ...

Saw Andrea Bocelli --- Vivere (Italy) & Las Vegas (live)....  Ganda talaga... very clear and bright sound quality. :D

Curious lang sir Jeff, any chance lumabas itong 32PG6000 dito sa atin? 1024x720 resolution kasi siya tapos HDTV instead of EDTV.

http://uk.lge.com/products/model/detail/plasmatv_32pg6000.jhtml

Thanks!

wow... s699... thats a good deal... in the long run i'm sure prices of our lg plasmas will go down as well.

just a natural cycle with electronic goods... expensive when new... then prices will eventually go down.... pero wag naman drastic drop... like 40%... :(  iyak na talaga ako nya... right ninjababes?

still happy with the 32 plasma... but will eventually be  moving to a 42 incher... maybe a pana plasma... if budget permits...

1080i lang sir, and no ghostings on both source format.

You can see it at the shop and have it tested, our source for movies and games PS3.
