1. Picture quality

I do not know nowadays if it still holds.

PowerDVD 16 in my case. I like the full feature set (dual interface and video/audio processing) and PowerDVD Remote.

Splash Pro is great for motion interpolation, and may work for those wanting a compact piece of software.

Kodi is highly expandable and has a media center like interface, but lacks out of the box post processing ability. This works well for less powerful builds.

I've never been a fan of MPC's interface, though it can do the job. I actually prefer Microsoft Movies & TV over it. The latter may not be as compatible, but it shines in sheer efficiency.

Might be the HTPC GPU of choice soon:

Low TDP and expected full feature set. Passive-cooled versions are expected to come out.

^What GPU yan bro?

So far, I am content with Intel GPU so don't find a need for video card yet.

Yup. Lower power consumption than the GTX 950, and expected HDR support.

Yup. HDR requires HDMI 2.0a, which Maxwell does not have. Right now Pascal and Polaris are the options with this support.

For power efficiency, the GTX 950 has a 90W reference TDP (which currently translates to 75W to 125W boards, depending on how the power limit is set). Based on the reference cooler on the RX 460, it seems like the TDP would be below 50W.

finally got to build a PC again after a very long time. plan is to use this as a HTPC/gaming rig:

bought windows 10 home for the OS and PowerDVD Ultra for the HTPC software. There was a cyberlink sale so I bit the bullet and bought PowerDVD 16 Ultra for $ 62.

Got some good advice from Stagea for the build. Salamat, Sir!

My first gaming rig in over a decade (aka my Civilizations VI box) will also serve as my htpc box. :)

This will also double as my wife's The Sims 4 time-waster as well. ;D

Specs:
• Thermaltake mATX case,
• LGA 1151 (H110 chipset) mobo,
• Intel Core i5-6500 (Skylake),
• Nvidia GTX 1060 8GB,
• 16GB DDR4 RAM,
• 240GB SSD,
• 520w 80Plus psu,
• 25" ultrawide 2k monitor,
• CM Storm Devastator II peripherals
• Total hardware cost is about ₱49,800 (my budget for the build was 50k for the hardware).

It's not a high-end build but should still be loads of fun!

Upgrades in the coming months will probably be 16GB more RAM, liquid cooling, and a good headset.

so my supposed to be HTPC became a gaming rig instead and switched to a jonsbo VR1 casing. I now have a fractal node 304 lying around and thinking of building a dedicated HTPC with it. Need suggestions on cheapest possible build (~Php 10k) with only main requirement is that it should be able to play 3D BD movies using powerdvd and of course output HD audio to my receiver using the onboard GPU.  oh, and mobo should be ITX form factor.

currently thinking of getting the following:
CPU: Intel Pentium G4400 3.3 ghz 2-core
mobo: MSI H110i Pro
ram: 8 GB ddr4
psu: seasonic ECO 400BT

total price is around Php 11k. I already have the other components.

any comments/suggestions specially to make it cheaper? I'm also open to AMD-based systems though I'm not really familiar with them.

TIA!

Go to the NMT section of PinoyDVD and read up all the various new Android TV boxes.

I've been able to replace all of the HTPC setups at home w/ these units... small, low power yet capable even of 4K.
