Balak ko kasi mag HD movie marathon, eh most of these movies 2.35:1 ang aspect ratio, may black bars sa top and bottom ng screen. They recommend to set the display in fullscreen muna for the first 100 hours to avoid image retention. Sa ibang website they recommend na ifullscreen muna for the first 1000 hours!

There are so many conflicting recommendations in different websites, 100hours,... 500hours,.. 1000hours,...

But in reality, you really do not have to worry about it...

I know I read somewhere here about Nemesis' post about the newer generation plasmas had already corrected the problem when it comes to IR and BI...

Just enjoy your TV, we did not invest our hard earned money para lang intindihin natin ang IRs...

Just an opinion my friend...  ;)

Thanks sir! I found Nemesis's post,
Quote
Image retention is just light and it goes away when watching other film w/ it. It is not a main problem of plasma it is just the way it is. We are eliminating burn in that is why there is such a thing for brake in period to avoid burns on plasma not image retention. I for one dont believe in burn in period or shall we say "break in period" on plasma monitors nor lcd. Sa amplifier and speakers yes but tv no. As i have posted before these are 10th generation unit and so far since 2005 no plasma has been reported that has a BURN at any display area of department store, game rooms, call centers, movie house and puyat projects we've sold.

Parang a quick flash of light lang yan when its dark tapos tinamaan ka ng liwanag you'll see flashes in your eyes then after a while you'll regain normal sight.

Mabigat talaga at nagjeep lang ako from Pasig to Shangrila Mall nung dinala ko PC ko sa Sights and Sounds! Pero okay lang, para maka-sigurado.

Text is actually clearer when connected sa VGA input ng Plasma instead of HDMI on my HTPC.
When I set it to 1024x768 stretched yung image at text pero readable pa rin.  Mine is set to to 1360x768 para 16:9 aspect ratio, tama lang.  I'll post more pix later.

This is true, vga shows more detals and a lot clearer than hdmi connection.  Mine has lower reso, but still looks fine.

Here are some pics of the 42PV8 in action.  These are screen shots of the Samsung 720p Beauty of Nature demo running on my Popcorn Hour.  The original size has black bars on top and bottom - the tv is set on zoom1 aspect mode.

sir newbee ako dito sa forum, got a 42pv70 and got a new 42pv80 para sa masters bedroom, pinagtabi ko yung dalawa to test kung malaki difference, using a blueray the difference is not that big, there is a little one pero di naman worth para magpalit ka ng display mo, yung color ng pv80 mas vivid and dynamic pero kayang habulin sa setting ng 42pv70, the difference lang siguro pag hinabol mo yung pq ng 70 para atleast maging par sa 80 medyo tataas ka na sa 50% ng mga setting and mas liliit ng konti ang life span ng plasma mo dahil dito pero kayang habulin. regarding sa black part di naman gaano kalaki difference halos di mo makikita kungdi mo hahanapin. and the 60hz vs the 400hz di mo mapapansin unless you'll look for it siguro.

although i havent tried it sa pangit na pq na dvd baka dun makita difference, pero why will you use an hd display kung pangit na pq na dvd papanoorin mo :D

tried it din nga pala sa ps3 and xbox 360 its almost the same actually wala akong makitang difference, pero it doesnt mean na pv8 or pv80 is not a good display, for me lang if you have a pv70 already and bago palang i think its not worth to replace it muna, pero kung bibili ka palang ng bago then get the newer model na, unless on the budget ka tapos sobrang baba ng presyo ng pv70.

just my 2 cents.

by the way i saw a 50pv70 and a 42pv80 magkatabi dun sa store sa shang yung nasa 4th floor, forgot the name of the shop, halos same lang ang 50pv70 and the 42pv80 considering na malaki pa yung 50pv70 dapat malaki ang improvment ng 42 sa picture quality pero walang difference halos.

napansin ko lang mababait and accomodating halos lahat ng tindahan dito sa pinas kaysa abroad, lalo na sa mga ht stores.

Great comment,

and great observation as well, I also received that same comment from a friend of mine
who in particular told me na hindi ganun ka-dramatic ang difference ng 2 modelo.

But for what its worth, I would still pick these units over any other LCD on the market...

Thanks..!

After 2 weeks I finally got the chance to play with the PV8 and the PV70. I agree to the comments of videoaddict that both aren't miles away in comparison. But IMHO opinion, there still IS, to a meticulous few ( yours truly included ). For starters the BLACK LEVEL on the PV8 is slightly better than the PV70 on default mode using SD - AVIA / DVE discs ( sorry no HD sources during comparative testing ). Color rendition is the same. The 60Hz vs 400Hz is evident on fast motion. But what made me post is this: BOTH the PV70 and PV8 have excellent video processors installed. Using a Pioneer DV-600 AVS connected via HDMI splitter, I toggled between the 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i & 1080p modes while playing the HQV silicon optics test disc. The best setting was....... ::) ??? ;) are you ready?

480i - this I believe is the only setting wherein video processing is entirely left to the PANNY display rather than the player. There were NO evident Jaggies on the 2 tests!!!  :o Noise was diminished to about 50%. Film detail was very good wherein the picture would LOCK on less than a second. Cadence tests was a mixed bag although very decent compared to the performance of the Pio. I was very much impressed after the tests which was doubly commented on by the meticulous eyes of my better half.

Bottom line is PANASONIC has clearly not rested on its laurels to produce a disappointment but raised the bar high enough not to raise a lot of eyebrows in producing the next line up.  ;D

good observation sir esi. i read nga in one review that the difference is evolutionary not revolutionary. both display is good talaga, and the pv8 is slightly better than the pv70.

pero for me if you have a pv70 already and you are planning to replace it with a pv8 with the same size just for the added difference siguro wait nalang for the next model.

sir esi tingin mo if ever magpapalit sila what will be the best price na shell out nila sa added difference? (ex. sell the pv70 ng 48k then buy a pv8 ng 50k, so shell out sila ng 2k)

to me mga 2-4k will be ok(pero baka pagisipan ko pa), more than that its a bit expensive. unless 8-12 months old na display mo then 5-8k is good enough because of the added 1 year warranty, pero i dont think may bibili sayo ng mataas pa if its more than 6 months old.

(opinion ko lang).

sir i've tried the 480i settings yesterday on my pv70 and dv600 after i read your comment, its true that the noise is diminished pero parang nakukulangan ako sa details nung nka 1080p ako masasabi ko ng medyo HD pero ng nag 480i ako medyo hindi na ganon katalas and medyo maputla ang color... i wonder can you share your tv and dvd player settings so that i could try it again... yes, i know that every set up is unique we cant copy others setting thats because also of the environnment but I just want to try out other settings bka maimprove ko pa... (kahit calibrated na unit ko) kung di mag work ok lang alam mo naman ugali natin we never stop tweaking to get the possible best setting... in other words OC...
