I got a watt meter that other day and when I tested the WDTV I found out that it consumes 9w of power whether it's on or off. Exactly the same. Which suggests to me that it's not really "off" even when the power light is off. So if you're concerned about power consumption (or even hardware longevity), you might want to consider unplugging it or putting it on a switched plug and turning it off when not in use.

I can rewind and fast-forward AVI files in the WD TV. But only if the file's playing (not paused). My firmware's updated to the latest beta by the way (10.3.1).

You can also skip 10 minutes at a time if you press next/prev while it's forwarding/rewinding.

Those using the 1.03.01 firmware meron ba kayo nakukuha na error...
- Unable to create media library on read only storage --> I am assuming that this is becasue naka HSF (Mac) format ang HD ko kaya lumalabas ito.
- cannot aggregate volume (or something to that effect)

But I am able to play and watch files naman. I just keep on getting the 2 errors when I turn it off and turn it back on.

You get that error when your drive's free space is less than 1.2 GB. But sometimes, I also get that error even if I have enough memory space.

WDTV (WDTV Live too) creates a hidden folder that stores information about the files in the drive for faster access and the media library function (i.e. sorting items etc). The second error ("can't aggregate...") means there is not enough space left on your drive to store the information it needs in the hidden folder.

I think the space it needs also depends on the size of your drive. I got the same error on a 1TB drive with less than 1GB free space, and the error went away when i freed up around 5GB space. But on a 1.5TB space, the 5GB space is not enough as I get the same error.

Maybe its because it needs it in percentage of the whole.

may final version na pala ng firmware. Release 1.03 (11/9/2009)

same added support and bug fixes from the prerelease beta.

Quote
•Added video playlist support

•Added support for the drive lock function on the new My Passport and My Book external storage devices

•Improved metadata support for music. For example, browsing by genre is broken down into artists, then albums, then tracks

•Enhanced cover art, album art, and thumbnail support for media files and folders
•Fixed bugs reported by the WD TV user community

There is now a new WD TV that supports dts downmix and more.

This is different from WD TV Live.

Now I don't know if WD will still upgrade firmware of the 1st gen WD TV.
