hindi na naman umaandar e :( nag email ako sa WD. ito reply nila...

Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support.

This device may have some issue with Panasonic LCD or Plasma TV.
Other than Panasonic TV, do you have other TV?
I do believe that if you connect the HDMI cable to other TV device it will work.
Kindly try it out then revert to us with the result.

Sincerely,
Kelvin T.
Western Digital Service and Support

dadalihin ko tomorrow ung Pana ko kay sir jeff para matest nila sa iba pa nilang products na may HDMI. if ever ayaw pa din, sa HDMI slot na malamang ng Panasonic ko ang problema :(

Like he said, you should also try the device on another TV to be sure it's not the WDTV.

Resetting the device just reverts settings to the factory default. It does not revert it to the previous firmware.

Tama si sir sardaukar.  Pag nag reset ka, babalik lang ang options sa default settings.  Walang restoration ng previous firmware.

To downgrade to an older firmware version: get a copy of the older firmware; open "wdtv.ver" with notepad; rename VERSION='1.xx.xx' to VERSION='1.xx.xy' (or any number higher than the version currently installed on your player); then install the renamed old firmware.

email to WD:
hi kelvin! i went to the TV shop and tried the WDTV to one of their TVs. my WDTV worked :( i guess it has something to do with my Panasonics HDMI. Is there any way you guys can fix this? im sure im not the only guy who has this problem. is it possible to make the WDTV compatible with more TVs? maybe on your next firmware? :) i was just wondering why the WDTV worked before...

WD reply:
Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support.

This had escalated to our Technical Engineer for further testing.
We will revert back to you if there is any updates.

A new FW is out - 1.02.07

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1141218&page=2

Fixed items:

* Added option to toggle subtitle default to 'On' or 'Off'

* Added subtitle outline thickness selection

* Added hard drive spindown on WDTV power off

http://www.wdc.com/wdtvprerelease/

Or

http://support.wdc.com/download/wdtv...FW_1_02_07.zip

and marami nagsasabi na ok na yung HDD spin down during power off. :)

ready na kame bumili ng mga officemates ko nextweek sana, sa mga meron na, since pv70/80 lang gamit namen, magiging 720p lang ang kaya nya, do you think it will be a big leap from the PQ na nakukuha namen sa dvd9 discs?

Baka kasi di naman noticeable ang diffrence.

Maraming salamat!

Curious Anchit, and no disrespect to WDTV owners.  Why are you not considering the Egreat or the PCH?

Mahirap i-define yung "big leap" from MKV to dibidibidi, in my opinion.  Convenient lang that a lot of titles are stored within the same media instead of handling like 100 disks; and more titles and genre are readily available sa MKVs than dibidibidi.    No matter what the limitation of your TV is, I'd choose the 1080p contents if I were you - just make sure your player can handle them.

I like the subtitles on firmware 1.02.07.  This is the first time my srt subs looked just right (I use size 40, with thick subtitle outline).

Turning off the WD via remote now spins down the MyPassport, although the LED light on the MyPassport is still permanently on.

thank you sir for the very quick response! :) BIggest reason why WDTV and not Egreat and PCH is the Cost, and priary reason why they are more expensive than WDTV is becuase they can be directly connected to internet at wala naman kame sir mabilis na internet just the PLDT 990 ;D  50kbps/sec lang ang download speed. But if PCH and Egreat have better picture quality inspite of their higher tag price I think mag bago kame ng isip :)

Also the thought of having it all in just 1 or 2 HDD kesa magpagawa pa ako ng new rack kasi pun na rack ko really plays a big part into getting one.

The ultimate question is, does it replace BD player? Same picture quality ba sir? Ang thinking kasi namen is, why but a BD player whcic costs at least 20k then buy discs na ang mahal pa kung makakakuha naamn ng WDTV then download its contents.

Lastly, kung 720p naman native resoultion ng tv namen, and if we were to choose between 720p and 1080p ( which will be eventually downscaled to 720p din naman) files, ano ang dapat namen piliin? Si 720p kasi mas maliit ang files nya at mas madaming mailalagay kesa sa 1080p na 2x tyhe files size ni 720p na eventually madownscale din naman? alin ang mas magandang picture?

Sorry for the long message. ;D

Thanks!!!

On my AVI files, it takes around 20 secs. for the video to start playing.  That's way, way too long.

xxx

Hi barrister! Has this issue been addressed with the latest firmware or does it still take long?

AVI now starts immediately.

The delayed AVI start was a bug of the 1st release for firmware 1.02 Beta.  It was fixed in the 2nd release (1.02.03; April 4, 2008).

The bug did not recur in any of the subsequent Beta versions, including the current 5th release (1.02.07).

connect to htib via optical and your htib must have a dts decoder via optical if some of your files are DTS

Biggest reason why WDTV and not Egreat and PCH is the Cost, and primary reason why they are more expensive than WDTV is because they can be directly connected to internet at wala naman kame sir mabilis na internet just the PLDT 990 ;D  50kbps/sec lang ang download speed. good points there, sir. same as mine. hehe! ganyan din reason ko why i stuck with the wdtv. gusto ko lang naman manood ng HD, and wala rin akong hi-speed internet for downloading. so value for money talaga.

Quote
Also the thought of having it all in just 1 or 2 HDD kesa magpagawa pa ako ng new rack kasi pun na rack ko really plays a big part into getting one.

i much like that i can attach just the drive where i have the movie/s i plan on watching (i have catalogued the contents already), whereas with the e-great/pch one drive is always attached.

Quote
The ultimate question is, does it replace BD player? Same picture quality ba sir? Ang thinking kasi namen is, why but a BD player whcic costs at least 20k then buy discs na ang mahal pa kung makakakuha naamn ng WDTV then download its contents.

to some extent yes, but since this is a thorny issue, i will limit my statement to that.  ;)

Quote
Lastly, kung 720p naman native resoultion ng tv namen, and if we were to choose between 720p and 1080p ( which will be eventually downscaled to 720p din naman) files, ano ang dapat namen piliin? not sure how OC you are with PQ, but for me I'm fine with a properly encoded 720p, esp. since my PJ is 720p native. it may not be night and day, but the difference between 720p and dvd is substantial already.

if connected to an HTIB, mag 5.1 pa din ba ang sound? connection will be via component cable?

depends if me optical in and htib mo. if just 2-ch stereo, hanggang prologic lang siya. kung dts pa ang source audio, no sound ka.
