LG HTT554TM
« on: Nov 19, 2009 at 04:09 PM »
Since I recently bought this home theater system(Just waiting for it to be delivered on our footsteps), would just like to ask if the hack used from the previous players will work here? I am not sure if it will work.

Btw, if I posted this on the wrong page, please redirect me to the proper thread here in Pinoydvd.

Thanks.

After a day, I was able to unlock the player to become region free. It is still the same code used.

LG HT554TM Issues
I have bought this HTIB packaged with my 32LH70YR. I have experienced some annoying issues. I would like to hear from other owners also. So I decided to start this thread. Will be posting some of my issues soon for our discussion.

I have connected my HT554TM (HTIB) to my 32LH70YR (HDMI1 input) using the HDMI cable that came with this HTIB. I have set my LCD TV to Simplink "ON". I suppose this activates the bi-directional communication between the HTIB and the LCD TV thru the HDMI cable. I believe these eqpt are HDMI-CEC compatible.

I played an MP3 music file on a DVD disc inserted into the drive tray of this HTIB with the LCD TV showing the screen for music selection. During playing of the MP3 song, I decided to turn off the LCD TV using the circular power button (center) as I will just be listening to the music only. What happened is the music stutters (or stop for a second) and does resume playing. Tested twice, still the same symptom.

Have you guys encountered this as well?

I still need to do a lot more testing on this:
Like if using the LCD TV remote to power off the TV, does the HTIB powers off as well while the MP3 music is playing? Or it does stutter as well? Will this issue be resolved by turning off the Simplink on the LCD TV?

I think this is also one of the annoying issues.

haha, even the ht554 has glitches?:] i'll try this out this week when i find the time. i've only been using it for dvd movies and not with mp3's, but it's possible it has something to do with the simplink feature. maybe that's why there is a "Screen off" feature under power savings as an alternative to turning the tv off.

i bought a cdr-king hdmi cable for my ps3 and initially used it on the HTIB and the first thing i noticed is that the simplink feature did not work. it turns out the hdmi cable needs to have cec function as said on pg. 61 of the lh70 manual for simplink to work.

the best thing i like about it is that it upscales beautifully to 1080p and i find myself re-watching some of my dvd's (the incredibles and sin city look amazing!).

My HT554TM by default is on Region 3. If you have DVDs with other Region Code like Region 1, it is better to set the Region Code to "All Region" instead. The ff is the procedure:

1. Power On your HTIB
2. Push Eject button to open the tray
3. Press "0" on your HTIB remote 4 times (I think) until the Region Code setting will show up on your TV screen.
4. It will display something like this: (I'm sorry if this is not the exact message, am just trying to recall from memory)
       new Region Code = ____
       current Region Code = 3
5. Press another "0" on your remote (0 = All Region setting) to set the new Region Code
6. Press "Enter" key on the remote (the center of the directional keys)
7. Power off your HTIB (just to be sure)
8. Power On again if you want to test your Region 1 DVDs. It should be working now.

Don't know but this might work with other new LG HTIB models.

BTW, the "Screen Off" feature is usually used when playing audio/music on the 32LH70YR only. The screen is turned off to save on electricity.

But in my case, I am playing audio/music on the HTIB. Therefore the "Screen Off" is not applicable.

Hope you can test to confirm whether this issue is also applicable to all owners. Otherwise, I might have a faulty unit. My HT554TM has a Nov 2009 manufacturing date. TIA.

Hi. now ko lang nabasa

pag open mo ng player, wait ka muna na no disc sign to appear, once na nag appear

using your remote control, press "pause", 3,1,4,1,5,9

a menu should appear on the region settings

makikita mo na naka default sya sa region 3. press mo na lang "0", then press "pause" then stop. Then turn off your unit (wait for at least 10 seconds).

Power it on

your HT should now be set as region free

To all users of "LG HTT554TM", na eexperience nyo po ba yung pag ka power on ng player, then pag sinalpakan ng disc, tas pag play yung movie almost minimal to zero ang sounds? I am not sure, kung may kailangan ako ayusin sa settings nya. Pero ang weird, after switching it off to on again, ayun, gumana na yung sounds, 2nd time around na nangyari ito.

Hi,

I have bought the LG HT554TM last Dec. 11, 2009.
Recently, I encountered a problem while playing my original Pirates of the Carribbean - At World's End DVD disc.
In scene 12, there is a 1 second pause/glitch then it will continuously play afterwards.
LG has already replaced the lens, but still the same problem occurs.
But when I play this particular DVD in my Philips DVD player, there is no 1 second pause/glitch in scene 12.

Can someone tell me what is the problem of my LG HT554TM as even the LG head office can't explain to me?

Thank you.

I'm by no means an expert but I encountered the same problem some years back with my 2 players. I think it's the layer switch bro. I had a philips player before & it handled layer switches better than my other player - sony dv608p if I remember correctly.

Hope this helps...  :)

As what TOP 20 mentioned, that is due to the layer change. From what I have learned, some player can handle the layer change better.

Hi TOP 20 and maidenmasher 69,

I'm a newbie when it comes to HTs.
The uncontrollable stops/pauses whenever I watch original DVD discs in my LG HT554TM annoys me.

Would you know if all LG HTs have the same faulty problem in layer change/s?

Can the layer switch of the HT554TM be changed to a better one like what Philips players have?

OR is it better to get another brand of HT?

Aside from the Philips player, what player/s is/are good in layer change/s?

Is Pioneer HTZ 180 better than the LG HT554TM in layer change/s?

Thank you in advance for your inputs.
This will help me decide what to do next.

Normal phenomenom po sya sir. I am also using LG HT554TM and I also noticed layer change. Slight pause sya.

If you will notice, some discs (especially distributed by 20th century fox and I think Disney titles) will have a note on the back cover stating "dual layer disc, layer change may trigger a slight pause"

Hope this helps.

Hi maidenmasher69,

Actually, when I bought this LGHT554TM last Dec. 11,2009, I returned the unit on Dec. 15 as it cannot play my original Kung Fu Panda DVD disc.

Now that I have experienced a number of automatic stops/pauses when playing a number of original DVD discs in my LGHT554TM, I have complained this issue to LG Service Center and their answer is that for this particular model, there will really be stops/pauses.  For their other models, they say that there will be no stops/pauses.

For me, I just wonder why do they sell this HT if they already know that it is faulty when in comes to layer changes.  If this slight pause is a normal phenomenon, why can the other players play any discs smoothly?
I am also concerned that as time passes by, this LGHT554TM might not play any original DVD discs any more in the long run. This is also why I had asked a number of questions for you and TOP 20.

Hope you can enlighten me further.

Thank you again for your inputs  :)

Sir, as I can recall, there are some players that can do layer transition smoothly without the noticeable pause.

regarding automatic stops, di ko po na encounter yan, more on technical issues na sya concerning the player. If LG told you that it is a really known issue, I am not sure pero I think you can demand for a replacement for that. And I think dapat i suggest sa kanila to have a recall of the HT model para ma review nila and to have all their stocks be pulled out.

As maidenmasher suggested, you should demand a replacement or ask if you can upgrade  & try the new models that handle layer changes better & don't have this automatic stops/pauses. Or, if this htib has an optical/coaxial input you can use this as your amplifier for another stand alone dvd player.

As to what brands/models can handle layer switches better, I had Philips in the past & believe it or not, Promac which I gave to my dad as a present. When shopping around for a new player, you can bring the "problematic" discs you mentioned & audition the unit/s.

You can check out the market place as well. We have a lot of sellers here who offer reasonably priced A-1 conditioned, some even brand new players.

Cheers bro!!! :)

Just to share with you, have just replaced my LGHT554TM with Pioneer HTZ-180. Although I have to add P6,000 for the Pioneer HTZ-180, I can say it's worth it as it handles layer changes smoothly.

But before I came up with the decision to change my HT from LG to Pioneer, I have asked LG sales reps to try some of my original DVD discs in their players on display.  It turns out that ALL LG players cannot handle layer changes smoothly.

Thank you, maidenmasher69 and TOP 20 for your valuable inputs!  :)

Not true that "all LG DVD Players" cannot handle layer changes smoothly. I have used an LG DKS-6000 DVD Player. And it doesn't exhibit pausing between layer changes. I am using an original DVD movie Region 1 disc (Dual Layer) - Columbia Tristar title (no layer change, slight pause warning message).

Altho I have tested the same disc on the HT554TM. It does have a very slight (est. 0.25 sec) pause when switching between layers.

Anyway, I am using my HT554TM primarily for its Digital Optical In. For the price of just php10k (50% off with LCD TV purchase), I have a 1080p upscaling DVD Player, Digital Optical In (for my HD Media Player), 70w(x5) + 150w sub and nice-looking 2-way speaker system HTIB.

Hi Folks,

I just recently purchased the LG HT554TM-A2. It's connected to my LCD via HDMI directly. While watching DVD's I noticed that there was a slight "echo" in the sound quality. First I thought that it might have been due to the fact that the disc I was playing was from the "Jack Sparrow" collection, so I let it slide. A few nights later, I tried watching my original Casino Royale video but the audio quality was still the same. There was a very faint hint of an echo, making it seem like the people in the movie were speaking in a cave or a dome.

I toyed around with the audio setup of the unit, turning DRC on/off, adjusting volume, distance, etc. but it still came out the same. It was only after I pressed mute on the DVD remote (mainly due to frustration), that I found the culprit. Apparently, yung HDMI connection ko coming from the HT to the LCD was outputting audio as well as video. So yung sound coming from the TV yung naririnig ko na parang echo.

I sifted around the setup mode od the player and read through the manual, but it had no way of configuring HDMI to output video only.

Anyone else experience this or know how to fix it aside from muting the TV?  ;D

Thanks in advance!
