Subwoofer cable
« on: Apr 29, 2003 at 06:05 PM »
was previously using my sub's high level inputs (speaker connections) to connect to my amp and recently switched to connecting my sub via its low level inputs using el cheapo rca cables...

can you kindly recommend a locally-available (where and for how much) branded subwoofer cable or stereo cable which costs around P1k?

can i also use decent component video cables for stereo (or 2x component vid cables for 6-channel analog audio)?

thanks!

Is this in a surround or stereo system?

If this is in a stereo system, I likely to stick to high level inputs so the sonic character coming out of the amp feeding my sonic channels is the same as the ones going to the subwoofer.

If this is in a surround system, I'd use the dedicated .1 channel out via RCA jacks.

can i also use decent component video cables for stereo (or 2x component vid cables for 6-channel analog audio)?

Possibly.  Note though that video and digital cables have different design characteristics from analog interconnects.  I've read that video/digital cables can be used for analog but not the other way around.

What's your objective?  If it's to save cost, ask Hyperaudio to make you six runs of Ixos I/C using Pheonix connectors.  Pretty decent cables for the money.

You can go to Listening Room and they can make you a cable using Audio Pro Wires for less than 1K. You can also get this brand for 30 pesos per meter from Deeco and use Quantum RCA connectors. Another option is to use radio shack wires. Just my 1 cent

rtsy: are those phoenix connectors yung mukhang turbines (ano ba tawag don-yung merong diagonal grooves)? magkano po pair ng phoenix connectors? ill try to look for hyper's place next time na punta kami cash'n'carry for the weekly grocery...

levi: sir, what do those quantum rca connectors look like?

i still have a pair of 3m klotz budget speaker wires that i previously used for the high level connections to the sub... im thinking of reusing them as interconnects for the sub, i just have to get rca connectors and whip out the old n trusty soldering iron.

i also noticed a forum member selling acoustic research (performance series) cables for very reasonable prices, is this brand good?

^ check the build quality nung connector. it has to feel solid.. by that price... it shoulda tleast be a cheap gold plated..

pero it should be enough for subwoofers.. you really are just wasting your money on really high end speakers cables.

Are there Y-RCA adapters of same quality as the Quantum RCAs?

Quantum is also selling for 100 each. Try Sound Dimension in Park Square.

tanong lang po..

pwede ko bang gamitin ito as subwoofer cable?:

1.)  RJ 6 coaxial cable   --  (ito ba yung ginagagamit sa skycable...?)    P20.00/meter

2.)  QUANTUM RCA connectors  P100 - P120/piece

I use RG6 coax cable and it works fine.  Actually, a lot of "boutique" companies use either Canare or Belden RG6 coax as their interconnect cable....but with fancy shielding and stuff.  Besides, the LFE signal does not need high end cable.....

sir, tanong ko lang kung ano ginamit mong lead sa pag-hinang mo ng RG6 with Quantum plugs, Silver Bearing Solder ba?
Kasi yung ordinary lead just slips it's braided wires when soldering it using ordinary Soldering Leads..

Your question is very general! What do you mean OK?
Anyway, for start try it! This will serve as your reference for your next cable upgrade. Everything depends on your system. BTW, what is your Sub?

I havent tried Audio Pro, but you can never be wrong with belden RG-6 cable using good RCA plugs for your SUB.

This audio Pro cable you are mentioning is the one with variety of colors? (Blue/red/yellow). Idon't know but it seems they are for microphone (75ohms). If this is the one, Belden RG6 Cable is better!

i really don't have an idea with regards to the color of audio pro... it's just that my friend have an audio pro sub cable that's already terminated... what i just want is the cable without the rca plug coz' i already have a monster rca plug...
