Brader - but you get 2 x 6" mid/woofers in the SCS-01 rather than a single 6" mid/woofer in the SBS-01. Besides, its the perfect trio for your front LCR ;)

brader hope this help, Audyssey calibrates base on room modes, room acoustic properties and the whole environment. Results may differ from one setting to another. Based on Audyssey site, firts that we adjust is the subwoofer gain so we can get a level calibration on the receiver between -3db and+3db. Any gain setting in the subwoofer itself that results in this parameter, is the ideal setting based on Audyssey. Please note though that the resulting parameters has a basis, which they call REFERENCE. This basis is a result of experimentations done by THX laboratories and Audyssey. at least based on how I udnerstood the write up about it. For you to enjoy(again based on REFERENCE) the benifits of the resulting data after calibration, your listening level should be pegged at 0db or 82 db for those using absolute value( hope i dont get it mixed up). AT this listening level, you will reap the benifits of the results of your calibration. More often that not, we are not satisfied with the result after calibration becasue we have preferred setting conceived already prior to calibration or preferred setting becasue you have gotten used to it. These scenario would now make you decide to alter the results after calibration according to what suits you. When you do this, Audyssey will now be set at PREFERENCE and this is not how Audyssey was intended to be.

Your subwoofer set to 8 o' clock resulting to 0dbd after calibration means that at REFERENCE listening level, you would achieve the sound calibration the way Audyssey measured it and not the way you PREFERRED it. There are people who likes REFERENCE setting and thus, makes little if not none at all adjustments in the resulting parameters after Audyssey calibration.

In my case, I have always done Audyssey to ensure that I have the correct speaker distance because this is very important in ensuring that sounds coming from the sepeakers arrives at your ear at listening postion accurately and in syncrhronicity with one another. If this is done improperly, sound arrival maybe delayed in relation to one another thus, SQ is muddied. Having said so, this is the only result that I maintain after calibration.

I have also learned from other pdvd members and readings that if the resulting cross overs are 60 hz and above, it is recommended not to change it. I have always gotten lower than 60 hz so I change it to 80 as THX recommended setting. The LPF of the LFE is recommended at 120 hz, which I always get so no problem.

In the level calibration, i usally get - dbs, which I find to low at my listening level of 65 db thus I change it to 3 db higher for all channells except the subwoofer. Doing this would essentially be similar to increasing the listening level by a few dbs.

Another aspect I have learned from pdvd mebers too is running your subwoofer 6 db hotter for better integration wiht the rest of the speaker channels. This simply means that whatever level calibration I get after doing Audyssey for the subwoofer, I increase it by 6dbd. Considering I have already increased all chnnels by three, I am essentially running my system at 3db hotter.

Room size is just one factor that drives the result after Audyssey. Having the same room size as the other does not mean you will have the same or essentially the same result as like I said above, room modes, acoustic properties and the whole listening environment affects this.
