hi,
ok sir akyat thanks !! matiyaga lang sa pag hanap and research sa net. ;D

sir narayan, pinagiisipan ko pa dami ko na surplus, pang 4 na kung kunin yung onkyo.  ;D

condition of the amp is actually very good externally, na test  na namin kaya lang pag turn mo nung knobs sa middle very scratchy yung sound, sabi ng store owner capacitor daw, pero tingin ko contact cleaner lang.  ;D

Hay naku gastos na naman.! >:D >:D

Rather unfair to compare your luxman to a yamaha.  Like comparing heaven and hell.  ;D No offense meant to yamaha users.

GEEEZ, I own an amp that souds like HELL!!!, It makes me feel so happy and greatful to know that, really, I take no offense at all . . . . . considering that the quote was made in a very responsible, respectful, and tasteful manner with the smiley face and all. . . .

The luxman is a respeted US brand that has been in the mainstream of hi-fi audiophilia ever since.  I fellow audiophile once said, just touching the front fascia is enough  to bring him to fits of ecstacy.  ;D  I was drooling at these brutes at the Audiophile shop in Goldcrest before. Even their casette tape decks had a built and look that was difficult to dismiss, apart from the nakamichi.

Congrats with your purchase.  How I wish those surplus shops were nearer to my place.  sighhhhh

thank you on this sir....

well, i guess im one of the lucky few, who live within close proximity of both the surplus shops of cubao and pier. but i dont really go there regularly, pag medyo nanangngati lang >:D.

but if theres something i can do for you sir av-phile or to all other surplus fan here, lll gladly help out... thats the least i can do for all the knowledge i have gained through pinoy dvd.  ;)

This M506 was the flagship onkyo separates that carried the INTEGRA name.  Competes with the likes of Pioneer ELITE and Sony ES lines.  There really should be solid wooden panels at the sides.  I think the later model is the M508 or M588, if not mistaken.

as per my copy of onkyo's 2000 audio-video catalog, the top model is the M-588 which has wooden side panels like the M504. am not sure whether M506 also has these side panels as the model is not in the catalog.

these are very good units such that for the P304/M504 combo for example, these were in production for 12 years :o

I visited pier this morning, while looking around for an amp and cd player, I came across a similar ONKYO amp posted by sir BGI_VI. Kaya lang the label shows 100W below the analog meters and no model number indicated in front.  Sighted new items were Victor AX-Z911 going for 4K, Sansui AU-D907X, Sony 333ES's different extension from what I got, NEC A-10 Type III, Onkyo 54s, Kenwood Trio 7300, 8700, etc., Sony/Pioneer amps wtih ProLogic and an Alpine/Luxman LV-103.

Anyway, I came home with a SONY 333ESXII amp (previously reserved) and an Onkyo C-200 cd player. My problem now are the speakers. I already have a Sansui AU-D607 and a SONY CD player, also from pier.  Reading from other posts, they said that it is better to overpower your speakers than underpower them.  Tendency of damage to speakers if underpowered is higher than the amp.  I'm thinking Diamond 8.4 or from the Buy & Sell section an AE 109 selling 10K.  Somebody from another thread said that the power rating for the Sansui I have is 85wpc.  What would happen if I connect a pair of 50W old speaker from an old stereo component? How about for Sony 333ESXII, would somebody know the power rating for this one?  At the back panel of the Sony, 345W of power consumption is indicated.

I'm just a newbie in this hobby, I've been reading your posts daily and have been very much influenced, informed and educated.    :)

BTW, I also have a Sakura 387 amplifier for my budget HT setup and a Rongxin 89DV 5.1 speaker set.  I would like to upgrade this to Diamond wharfs that's why I'm considering  the 8.4 for my stereo setup.

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks to your post seacrmnd, I bought the Sansui AU-D907X. Testing it now, so far its ok pa naman. Noticed  that its much much powerful than my HK3550, the bass is a lot more heavier, with more impact, but then again, yung highs is parang HK, medyo subdued. Sayang, di sya alpha series, but this series i think is the 3rd generation of the 907. Any ideas if this is correct? If this series brought the downfall of sansui? :P

bro, your amp is 6th generation... 3rd generation is the AU-D907F.

be proud of your amp, it's their flagship integrated amp in 1984... it is included in nishi's list/history of top-rated japanese audio gear.

Congrats on your gem of a find.  I am once again sorely missing my old Sansui AU-D11.

If this series brought the downfall of sansui? :P

The downfall of Sansui was more from the labor problem, the appreciation of the yen against the dollar, and the brand's introduction of inferior line for the international market (since it could not sell its high-quality hifi to the world market at realistic prices). I was on a study grant in Japan during the mid-80s and I had the oportunity to interview some audio company executives on the impact of strong yen on their operation for my term paper. Your D907X is an upscale unit comparable with the high-end models of US or British brands. It should do well with mid- to high-priced British speakers. I have four other pairs - Wharf, EV, and two JBLs - but my Alpha 907 sounds best when hooked to Epos 14.

been to pier again this morning, no new items except for the Sansui Au-D607X Decade going for 3.5K and an AU-D907 going for 4.2K.  So off I go to Raon, to buy and audition sana Dai-Ichi subs kaso sarado pala showroom pag Sunday. So I wandered around and there I found an Alpine/Luxman LV-117 going for 5.5K.  I remembered someone in this forum stated that "you can't go wrong with a Luxman".  So I haggled and bought it for 5K.  I still have to test this with my speakers though.   Just sharing and wnat to know If I made a right decision for my acquisition.
Thanks...

I remembered someone in this forum stated that "you can't go wrong with a Luxman".

That depends. It's likely to apply if you're buying a brand new equipment since Luxman is among the best audio brands in Japan (although its recent Japan auction prices using comparable models put it only at par with old Sansuis - D series - and new Yamahas). LV 117 is a mid- to high model with probably 120wpc. When buying used gears, however, it's better to request the seller that the cover be removed for you to see if the electronics have been tampered with. One that's dirty and evenly dusted likely indicates no replacement of parts was done. Shiny, clean caps and boards could mean the unit was already repaired. Bear in mind that the risk of buying a lemon is always high in the used equipment market. But taking into account the pricing and the available hardware (i.e., upscale models sold at less than a 10th of the original price) it could be worth the trouble as well as the risk.
