Make amples of it Jo, lets prove the critics wrong on what's the difference between a Handcrafted Quality Fan & a mass produce fan. As to my knowledge laptop fans are parang anemic yung rotation sa fan & in months time parang Ferris Wheel na siya nag rotate parang wala ng kain ;D

Will do sir after I'm done toying around pulse width modulation and temperature control. Nakakatuwa din kasi pag self perpetuating yun design, para fire and forget na siya which means added peace of mind.

Ok lang naman yun sir, kung saan masaya ayus din dun. I just needed to butt in to explain stuff. :)

Naku sir Jo ako ang nagpasok ng fan mo dito sa thread, super bilib kasi ako sa fan mo. I hope you make more for the other members.  This is one very good investment to protect your AVR from overheating. Sulit talaga.

The goal po is to maintain the "idle temp" of the amp sir, not to cool or otherwise the Vbe multiplier of the bias circuit will think that the amp is in a "cold start" and will increase the idle current accordingly. Conversely, thermal derating also occurs when the amp gets too hot so ideally, temperature should be kept constant.

Pero rocket science na yan usapan na yan, nood lang ng nood at makinig ng makinig, enjoy your videos and music!

Just like how engine fans work on automobiles, it helps maintain proper operating temperature. :)

I also own an ONKYO 609, Just want to share what I did for my receiver, so far ok naman.

All items from CDR-King

I bought a Notebook Cooler for 380php, there were cheaper ones but I chose this model because it had 2 big fans and its color was black, which would make it almost invisible on top of the 609.  This notebook cooler looked the most classy among the others available, well it was one of the most expensive.

I got a USB adapter for 50php in order for me to be able to plug it in a 220 outlet.

Since the USB cable attached to the notebook cooler was really short, I got a usb extension for 80php, so it would be able to reach the 220 outlet.

I went home, assembled it, put it on top of the receiver and so far, it works fine, does it job of cooling the 609, looks "cool" too. :)

Hope this helps.

nice suggestion, I will try this one  :) for 510.00, I will have a peace of mind when using Onkyo in a movie marathon pag weekend.

Sir,

Read and learn here: http://www.national.com/assets/en/other/TempSensorHandbook_2008.pdf

I've been getting PMs/email requests for a temp sensor/fan driver that can be put on top of an AVR/Amp and power those cheapo CDR-King fans. So instead of making more fans, I am thinking of designing a gadget that can sense the temperature of an amp and power those laptop/desktop fans sold at pc stores.

Those CDR-King fans btw are rated 12V but are intentionally being run at 5V to make them virtually noiseless.

 :)

Nice explanation tukayo.  ;) We don't need a strong fan because the amp is already designed for it's proper working temparature. kaya lang, maiinit din kasi sa bansa natin. Just a little help para sa heat convection is already enough. Thermostat kaya tukayo? Dual thermostat for 3 fan speed settings. Can you toy around with controlling the power cycle input din ng fan. Mas-safer din ata yun.

It all depends on the ambient, besides, the manufacturers didn't gave any specific operating temps for their AVRs. But all solid state parts are rated at 25*C and should be derrated accordingly as temperature rises.

A thermostat? It will work for sure but I'd rather use something different. Are you also designing one? You can use a thermostat there if you like and let's compare notes.

Power cycle? Are you talking about pulse width modulation? If yes, then that's peanuts but not necessary.  ;)
