yes its a strategy but its like just giving the game away. di sana nagpadefault na lng sila kung gusto nila magpahinga. all the teams go through that kind of schedule anyway. it wouldn't matter for me if pops was coaching the wizards bcoz we all know they are not contenders. unlike spurs na top team sa west tapos magbibigay lang ng laro. what if ganun lahat ng strategy ng team eh di wala ng kwenta ang regular season games. maglalaro lang si superstar kapag mahalaga yung game.

I don't think they're necessarily giving the game away, sir. parte lang talaga sa strategy lang talaga ni pop ang pagbibigay ng "meaningful minutes in meaningful games" sa mga bench players nila. they do that a lot, especially  last year. Merong magandang example sa article na ito: Only one Gregg Popovich

Quote
It will be recorded as just another San Antonio loss, in a season with too many. This one came against a crucial rival, in overtime, with playoff implications.

But to me the dazzling thing about the Spurs' loss to the Mavericks is that it was a chance for the Spurs to rub the rest of the league's face in the fact that they don't do things like other teams.

Gregg Popovich pulled his last starter with around three minutes left in the third quarter of a game that went to overtime. But for Kawhi Leonard straying onto the court for a few seconds here or there, none returned.
'
....In most systems, on most teams, the big minutes in the big games go to those who have already earned them. In San Antonio, Popovich knows those minutes can do a lot to inspire young players to develop. He has long been handing them out to players who would struggle to make a lot of NBA rosters. And he has way more than his fair share of those players evolve into meaningful contributors. Is it just that his front office knows how to find diamonds in the rough? Or maybe Popovich has mastered the art of polishing.

Is Danny Green the kind of guy who nails a buzzer-beater to win a huge game on the road over the defending champs? Most people, maybe even including Green, would have said "no" a day ago. But now he hit just exactly that shot -- but for a tenth of a second and video review, the Spurs would have won at the end of regulation. This effect echoes across the lineup. James Anderson drove hard to the left of the lane, looking for all the world like an out-of-control guy not far removed from the D-League. But after drawing a defender, he made a beautiful dish to Splitter. And on and on. The five Spurs who played can all file away memories that prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that they can hang.

With Pop's strategy, the Spurs have managed to extend Duncan's title window without any significant free agent acquisitions.  In a way, the Spurs have managed to gain some key rotation players from mostly polishing turds from the league's trash bin (neal/green/diaw etc) or the draft. wala namang nakukuhang ray allen for a discount or similar ang spurs.

pero may point din kahit papaano ang liga. kala ko nga nung sinabi ni stern na "substantial sanctions", mawawalan na ng draft pick ang spurs. i would've been pissed if they lost a pick, 250k fine lang pala  :P. i'm pretty sure pop still doesn't give a f---

Good luck talaga. You know how the Lakers fair with these weak teams naman. Wala, nakablowout na last game kaya chillax na naman sila. Di bale, pag natalo today, blowout na naman next kalaban.

frustrating talaga inconsistency ng Lakers.

I'm still on the fence on the issue.  May point ang both sides.  Yun kay Stern lang kasi, the paying public gets cheated.  Lalo na the Spurs only come to Miami just once a year.  So this season unless they meet in the finals, Spurs fans from Miami will have to wait for next season to See Duncan ang Manu.  Pano naman if those same fans are not season ticket holders?

Then there are the sponsors ng TV coverage.  These are major players why the league exists.  Kung walang sponsors walang NBA.

Yun kay Pop, understandable din.  You plan long-term.  If they win the title, then the fine is....."fine".   :D

But overall, if walang sponsors, tv deals, the paying public....walang NBA.  Kahit ano yaman ng team owners, walang NBA if wala yung mga yun.  Teams owners can't very well organize from the ground up their own league.

So I think the real culprit here is the schedule.

as a basketball fan, not playing your 4 starters is like giving the game away. green and parker are not really old. just imagine if lakers and miami would do that on the xmas game. so i think a sanction from stern is really needed to prevent other teams from using that kind of strategy.

As a basketball fan, I also appreciate the Spurs' commitment towards player development, and their dedication towards achieving long term goals rather than merely short term ones.

As I said, without Nash Lakers can't win playing catch up.  And if they don't reach 100 pts, they're doomed.

tama ka , hinde namna kailangan ng offense coach yung lakers. time ni phil dati pag nag timeout sila, mga players na lang nag uusap kung ano gagawin unless last second shot play tsaka gagawa ng play si phil.

lakers led by 7 points before I ate a quick lunch. When I came back they were down by 10... WTF!!! Meeks and Jordan Hill didn't even get much burn today.  As usual one man show again from Kobe who heaved 28 shots? If Nash comes back and isn't the same Nash as advertised by D'Antoni then they are in deep crap. Looking at it now they are struggling even to make the playoffs much less contend with the likes of Memphis, San Antonio, Oklahoma for the West. LeBron will tear the Lakers apart should he set foot in the same court.

They are turning out to be the biggest disappointment for the year.

D'Antoni teams in the past were always inconsistent. After some great high scoring games, his always collapsed.
Scoring 103 points just isnt enough for a D'Antoni team to win.
