Kobe undergoes surgery immediately.  Rose is out for the season.

Who's gonna come back first?  Rose or Kobe? Baka mauna pa maglaro si Kobe ;D

Well, hats off to Kobe for being competitive. Pero bad trip pa din talaga mga calls against opposing team ng LAL. Pag inalis mo mga bad calls, malamang hindi na lumalaban for 8th place ang LAL. Ang hirap talagang manalo sa team na 8 ang naglalaro sa floor. Given the season injury of Kobe, wala dapat foul duon sa play na yun. Kung papansinin mo hindi dumikit si barnes kay Kobe. Clean defense yun kay barnes and he got call for a foul dahil bumagsak si Kobe. And pag ang freethrow gap mo ay 16-50 sigurado walo ang player ng kabila.
id have to disagree, if you have dh12 on your team you will always have a lot more ft's attempt.

Mismo.  Because every time he goes low post, opponents will automatically foul him.  May Hack-A-Howard pa!  And Kobe keeps attacking the basket, ginawang asintahan yun Thompson panay ang sabit nung kawawang bata.  At swerte sa 3 points ang GSW especially si Curry naging trigger happy kaya they had less FTs coz they drove to the basket less.

It was generally bad officiating all night.  I thought the Warriors were just as aggressive in the paint.  Specially in the 4th.  Kobe did fall when he got injured.  Barnes did not commit a foul.  Then the play on Curry, he was called for a foul from first a moving screen on Howard.  Let's say there was a foul, Curry bumped Dwight. Then it should have been Howard on the line.  But Steve Blake took the FTs.  Game commentators said as much.

it was a missed call on the screen by dh. one possible argument is curry actually run into blake when dh bumped him.

Yeah I guess.  But the scenario you mentioned was already the 3rd sequence. First the moving screen, then the hit by Curry on the moving screen.  Then the bump by Curry on Blake was the after effect of Curry bouncing off from Howard's moving screen.   :D  Still bad officiating though.  If it's a toss up, either a foul on Howard for the moving screen or a foul by Curry on Howard.

Too bad the officials have to decide the outcome of the ball game.  I think a non call would have sufficed.  There was no play for the basket at that moment nor Blake attempting a shot but got rewarded w/ 2 FTs.

Well as I've said before, lalo na in a tight game that can go both ways. The call will probably go against the team that LAL are against. The injury on Kobe there is no way that could be a foul on Barnes. The officials should have seen that Kobe falls by himself. The foul on Curry those are crucial plays that could have made the outcome different.

I'm not sure if Doc Rivers was serious or just being predictably sympathetic when he said this:

"My players are my favorite, but if I had another one, it would be Kobe. I just love his heart and his toughness.  Heck, I love the fact that he got up and made two free throws with a torn Achilles."

Coach, he also tied the game on two bad legs prior to that ;D

Watched the replay of LAL vs GSW, which is the last of Kobe for this season :D

Here are my thoughts on the crucial calls towards the end:

Yep bad call indeed - Howard set a moving screen on Chicken and Chix got called for the foul. That was bad.  Worse was that Steve Blake took the free throws. That was crucial.

Second was when Barnes was called for a foul when Kobe fell down.  In real time though, that is understandable because refs thought it's more likely from a foul than Kobe's ankle simply giving way.  Of course slow mo revealed there was no contact but then again, refs don't review slow mos for fouls.

But the whole conspiracy theory because of the 50-17 FTAs disparity is, IMO, a stretch of the imagination.  GSW fouled more and shot more from the outside period. Hack-a-DH12 when he got it down low. Besides, GSW is a "foul-happy" team with 25 fouls / ppg, one of the top in the league.   And lest we forget, Lakers hardly play defense.  How can you foul when you don't play D?

Tragedies often bring out the best and the worst quotes :D

I think this whole injury thing will be good for Kobe.  Better to happen now than, say, when he's much older.  Aside from the major injury, he now has a chance to fix all those other glitches in his body and be truly 100%.  As one commentator said, Kobe hasn't been playing 100% since he was 18 years old.  He always has to play through some pain and injury. He said he's curious how Kobe will play if he's 100% ;D

Kobe will now have more time to reflect and put everything in perspective.  Interesting how he plays when he gets back on the court.  Expect another media hype for this.  I said before that in the midst of all the new stars coming out like LBJ & KD, Kobe is trying hard to be relevant. Well, he just did that again.  Typical Kobe.  Always silencing critics.

And the best thing of all?  Kobe, like Jordan, will now have his time to say, "I'M BACK."  Till then, let's enjoy the games, with or without the Mamba ;D

It might not be that stretch of the imagination.  Someone actually made a very detailed analysis using factual statistics as basis.  And he made a really convincing argument.

Quote
As you can see, during the last 10 games the Lakers have risen from rates that made them one of the top 1-2 free throw beneficiaries in the league to head and shoulders above everybody else's season averages. The Jazz, meanwhile, started as average to above-average free throw producers but have suddenly dropped to the worst team in the league outside of maybe Orlando.

I also recall the foul on Ezeli on Kobe where Kobe made a spin then did a fade away.  There was no physical contact body or otherwise since Kobe faded away.

Could the shoes of Kobe be the culprit?  I mean, he's been wearing low cut shoes that might have less support on the ankle and the achilles.

As opposed to...

or even

What's your take on this?  Should Kobe wear different shoes when he returns?

The good news is Kobe will be back for sure.  The bad news?  Not sure if he can play at the same level given those who have suffered similar injuries and returned to the game.  Beckham did return but was he the same Beckham?  Chauncey Billups is still struggling to have his game back until now.

Says his doctor, "“We'll have to see,” Grover said. “It's not an easy process. It's not an impossible process .... and I believe he can be as well as he was before. But it's definitely a long, tedious process.”

After the 6 months recovery, it's all mental from thereon.  Kobe's mental tenacity will have to step up.  And we all pray he has that :)

Lal-Sas on a low scoring game..

Tied at 43, Halftime.

Steve Blake leading the way with 18 pts followed by DH12.  El PG should step up in the 2nd half.  Gasol's got only 3 points but with 10 rebs.

Lakers, without Kobe, definitely has a fighting chance.  Tingin ko nga medyo mas fluid sila kasi ngayon di na nila aantayin si Mamba and read what Kobe will do whether he will shoot or pass. Of course, they need Kobe in crucial situations but they'll find a way to grind it out.  Sana pumasok din ng playoffs, I'm sure Nash will step up.
