I won't dispute naman that he got the championships he wanted, but the team also benefitted from his sacrifice and the same rings that they got so Ang sakin is, if I choose to screw your organization walang samaan Ng loob kasi I'm looking out for myself. Dahil pagtanda ko you won't give me what I left on the table back.

Yup, both the HEAT & Wade benefited from Wade signing discounted contracts back in 2010 & 2015.

As with any normal contract, both parties reviewed it & both benefited from it. Wade being the franchise player, it was Riley's job to explain to him how sacrificing some millions can bring in key pieces for them to contend - they got into 4 straight Finals & won 2 chips.

Indeed, Wade had all the right in the world to leave the HEAT - he owed them nothing.

IMO the one thing that Wade will be wrong to publicly say (so far, he's taken the high road & didn't) is that the Heat should've given him what he wants, since he was under-compensated all those years.

Sayang lang at kaunti na lang sila na active one-team lifers ........ Duncan, Ginobli, Parker, Nowitzki & Collison (hehe) ..... meron pa bang iba?

The amount will be somewhere in the neighborhood of the max ....... as for the length, it will probably be for 1-year again, since the cap will increase (again) to more than $100M by next offseason.

Rising cap = Rising max = More money for Lebron

You need to qualify minimum length of stay.  Kasi sila Curry naman GSW rin all his NBA career.  Heck, most rookies are active one-team lifers.  hehehe...

IIRC kapag lifers, they're referring to those with at least 10+ years with the same team.

Haslem for now.

Forgot about Haslem ..... yup, it's very possible he'll be dealt this offseason.

Minimum of 10 years:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NBA_players_who_have_spent_their_entire_career_with_one_franchise

At the rate things are going in the NBA, konti na lang madadagdag sa loyalty awardees. Players like Conley (entering his 10th season), Brook Lopez & DeAndre Jordan (9th season), Curry & DeRozan (8th season), and Wall & Hayward (7th season) are getting there.

Ikaw naman sir, kahit naman benchwarmers nila mayaman, the discussion has to be relative to his peers.

Just putting it in the proper perspective. These superstars have really become spoiled brats.

but the perspective that should be taken is within n their industry, compared to oil barons they earn peanuts, so the discussion should be withdrawn n their parameters.

GSW's effective supporting cast is virtually gone. Their bench now is so shallow.

Di na sila strength in numbers. Strenght in the Splash family na lang.
At least they still have Iggy and livingston. Tapos bago si Pachulia and Dawid West.
Sino pa ba available na free agents. Available pa ata si David Lee?

Oil barons? Cmon ;D

Wade was a franchise player. Was. They won against Dallas because Wade shot around, what, 200 FTs per game? After that, wala na. He couldn't even beat Dallas with Lbj and Bosh. And when was the last time he played 82 games? He's on the decline. Pat knows this. Now they can rebuild.

Point is, he took a paycut  to help the org when the org did nothing for him. Everyone knows he's on the decline, what he was looking for was the golden parachute for taking one for the team . They didn't see eye to eye hence the sudden divorce. So no loyalty from the team for player, so next time Riley tries the same move, players should be reminded that he doesn't payback favors.

+100. Players would now be reminded to just get a fat contract with Riley and Heat or no deal. There is no such thing as loyalty for him. I don't think Miami will be winning a championship again. No super star players will ever join and play for them. Take the money and run players na lang makukuha nila.

You think the org will ask him for a paycut if there wasn't a cap? There was no other way to bring in lbj and bosh. If he wants a championship and if he thinks the only way to get that is through lbj and bosh, then his choice is clear. I wouldn't call it sacrifice because being a champion does bring a lot of endorsements.

If he's going to blame anybody, blame his agent for not following up with riley and with himself for not being close to management like duncan with the spurs or dirk with the mavs.

You sound as if Riley is the only GM/President who ever made a decision not to overpay / multi-year an aging player.  ;)

Past stars Alonzo Mourning & Tim Hardaway all sought one last fat-contract from Riley and he was right not to give to them - Zoe was a shadow of himself when he went to the NETS, same with Hardaway ...... yet these 2 stars came back to the HEAT, Zoe as a player & Tim as an executive.

IMO what Riley did was a sound decision in the NBA ...... everyone knows that Wade is on the decline & that a 3-year contract was too big of a risk.

Heck, no one among the 3 teams vying for Wade (HEAT, BULLS & NUGGETS) offered more than a 2-year contract (!)

It was a sound business decision, albeit a sad one since it involved the face of franchise. That's life in pro sports.

Yes. Riley is the only GM/President who ever made a decision not to overpay / multi-year an aging player, the face of the franchise, WHO GAVE THEM 3 CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!

And btw, 25M/yr for 2 years for Wade's stature, who is currently healthy (as of writing) is not overpaying. Especially starting this season, the next and the next.

They also have the money since they didn't get Durant. On top of that, there is no one else available in the free agent market. Paying Wade may not have been the best use of their money from a player perspective, but from a marketing perspective, it would have been money well spent.

Lakers' summer league offense and defense look waaaay better than last year's.

Larry Nance has improved a lot on his defense. Very good timing on blocks and the regular deflections.

D'Angelo Russell showcased his post up moves a lot. Still careless with the ball but hopefully he will clean up his game soon. Looked really poised and confident compared to last year.

Brandon Ingram showed his inside-out game. Jumpshots and dribble-drive. Willing passer. Would love to see more aggressiveness on offense from him. His length allowed him to block some shots! Great, great pick for the Lakers!

Ivaca Zubac was a revelation. First time to see him in a full game. I am impressed! Can't believe teams passed on him because they couldn't stash him in Europe. This kid can play with the big boys. Showed a soft touch around the rim, blocked a few shots and altered a lot more! Shot the free throw very well. Another decent pick by Mitch. At $3m for 3 years, i think this is a good deal. Bonus was him actually telling Nance during game break that he loves playing for the Lakers. Hope that passion continues.

With another terrible season ahead for the Lakers, all I can do as a fan is to keep hoping that these kids will shine ASAP.

Let's see, right of the bat ...... back in 2003, Shaquille O'Neal was demanding a contract extension from no less than LAKERS owner Jerry Buss - his demands were not met and he was traded to the HEAT after the season.

At that point, Shaq had already won 3 championships for the LAKERS, winning Finals MVP all three times.

===========================================================================

Back in 2012, the LAKERS had a coaching vacancy - everyone knows the story, Phil Jackson (who had shown interest) was bypassed in favor of Mike D'Antoni ....... Phil Jackson won 5 championships with the LAKERS. Also, Phil Jackson has had contractual disputes with the LAKERS circa 2003-2004, when he had won 3 championships with the LAKERS.

===========================================================================

Scottie Pippen, 6x champion with the BULLS was grossly underpaid his whole time with the team ......... Pippen's final year salary with the BULLS, was $2.8M. Pippen's contract when he traded to the ROCKETS, was $11M/year.

===========================================================================

Hakeem Olajuwon, 2x champion with the ROCKETS was traded to the RAPTORS back in 2001 after a contract dispute ...... he rejected the ROCKETS offer of $3.3M/year and went to the RAPTORS for $6M/year.

===========================================================================

I could go on all day brader ....... by the way, if your earlier post held true, that DWade deserved the max - then the BULLS did not do right by him as well, since they also did not give him the max contract. ;)

As you said, D Wade is the face of the franchise who gave them 3 championships. The others you mentioned were not the face of the franchise except for I guess Olajuwon. But again he is not comparable to Wade since Wade alone gave them their first and he is the only reason the Heat were able to get Lebron and Bosh giving them 3 more. Did you even think that Lebron and Bosh would play for Miami if not for Wade? Wade did more for Miami not only as a player but as a recruiter. Without Wade, Miami is still without a banner now.

The thing is he was only asking for 25M/yr for 2 years, and Riley was hard on his stance that he was only giving him 20M. Di pa nga max yun eh as you mentioned, tapos di mo pa maibigay?

If there was one player in the Miami Heat roster that should be overpaid then it should be him. Think about Bosh. Now think about Whiteside. Now idagdag mo pa si Dragic and McRoberts combined. Di ba sila ang overpaid!?

If you were Pat Riley, and know that Durant already said he will sign with GSW, diba dapat i-sign mo na si Wade sa 25M 2yr deal? A healthy Wade at that? Wouldn't you?

Now as a fan, how would you feel going into the season and the next without Wade nor a star for that matter, matutuwa ka ba? Sino papanuorin mo sa Heat ngayon, aber?

^ Hold your horses brader, no one is disputing Wade's contributions to the HEAT - he is/was the face of franchise.

Another thing I agree with you - some overpaid guys in there, Bosh, Dragic, etc ..... but these are all done and signed guaranteed contracts. Have to work in the now, than complaining about the past.

It's very easy to see the reasons why Riley took the hardline stance of $20M/year ....... trying to guage the FA market for some pieces and adding anything more to their Wade offer (north of $5M) would have resulted in shedding some key player/s.

Riley was trying to strike that balance of retaining Wade & fielding the best lineup they can - extremely likely that they made the last East Finals where it not for a Whiteside injury in that TORONTO series. They're right there in the East ...... not saying much when compared with the CAVS, but it's something than hoping for an 8th spot e.g. KNICKS, BUCKS, etc.

I've been watching hoops for a long time, I've long outgrown being a fanboy - I'll follow teams that I like regardless of who's on the roster.

==========================================================================

Shaq was 3x champ, 3x Finals MVP ...... Pippen was alpha-1B of the BULLS, 6x champion.

So, Shaq & Pippen weren't "faces" of their franchise when they were trades because of contract disputes?

Counting Olajuwon (heck let's add Ben Wallace, Champion, 4x All Star, 4x DPOY, 3x All-NBA Team - who left the PISTONS since he felt low-balled, signed-up with the BULLS)  ..... that's 4 franchise players who had similar scenarios that DWade was in a few days ago.

Four different teams, 4 different GM's ....... so, Pat Riley wasn't the only one after all.

So, which one is it ..... you posted that DWade deserve the max - the BULLS didn't give him the max either ...... I don't see you ranting about the lowball offer that the BULLS gave DWade.
