secret!! hehehe loko lang kimpao.  i think i'd still go for nad 521bee hehe ayos ba kimps!  ;D seriously now, the details are there but not quite, something's still missing.  maybe if it has an hdam feature of marantz, it will sound better.  reputable naman ang marantz when it comes to budget cd players.

Ah, ok.

I wonder if any of you have auditioned Ferdie Ludo's tubed Heart CDP's (these are modified Marantz CDPs).  I was interested in the CD5000 kaya lang walang stock at the time. Yung 6000 na demo model was offered to me at a discounted price kaya lang over my budget pa rin. The internet reviews I've seen are very good.

seriously bros, magandang i-tweak ito coz of its good slim-line looks and built-in features like the CD-Text capability, pitch control and headphone jack with volume control...

Ha ha. Salamat sa implicit compliment but hardly deserve it. Seriously though am no expert because I don't know circuits unlike Jojod18, Tony, or Rene. The mods on cd players are well documented and the things I proposed in this thread are just borrowed ideas I got from the real experts and newbie diyers alike. But if I knew about the CD5400, I would have chosen it over the NADC521bee for one reason alone: its cheaper! I bought the NAD with a view to tweaking it and hoped that it would make music much much beter than what its price tag suggests. Besides its fun doing it so really I suggest you do it yourself. The only minimum requirement is some basic soldiering skills. Of the tweaks I mentioned earlier, its actually just the diy clock I haven't tried but soon hopefully. Whatever I can contribute to the topic am willing to help. If you have questions, I'd enjoy sharing my own experience or point you in the direction where you can get a more satisfying answer.

In the meantime I'll do research on the Marantz unit, seems like a good candidate for tweaking.  ;D

but the sad thing is, this player is no longer available at the Galleria Branch of Electronics Depot. went there this afternoon hoping that i could audition it and if impressed with its features, to get it sooner than planned. but they were selling  the CD5400s like hotcakes and they already ran out of stock. good news is: new stocks will be arriving by mid of july but they're not sure yet if they can maintain its current price.

Tell us more pls! What CD player? What parts did you use? How did it make a difference? Thanks. Sorry if am asking to much.

I fitted the KC7 in my Pioneer cdp.  (Yung isasali ko dapat dun sa cdp shootout.)  The most astonishing improvement was less digital glare.  If you would like to build one, you can download the diagram from this link:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=199928#post199928
I mainly sourced my parts from Farnell and used pcb and metal film resistors from Radioshack and Alexan.  Will post the prices of individual components next time.

There is another worthwhile diy clock from Guido Tent but this requires a special crystal as compared to the KC& which uses the existing crystal from the cdp.

Lars Clausen of LCAudio also gave the diagrams to his Lclocks from this link:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=4fc0022106b4890b17fac01350958c58&threadid=24059&highlight=
But this is too complicated to build and also requires a special crystal.

Here are characteristics of op-amps as discussed by Dejan Vaselinovic of TNT-Audio.  Use it as a guide on choosing which op-amp you will use:
http://www.zero-distortion.com/downlaod/opamps.zip
And here is how to improve their performance by boosting their output currents:
http://www.zero-distortion.com/downlaod/boosting-jpg.zip

Happy tweaking!!!
(Parang Happy three kings! Hehehe)
