di naman sir...it's more of a personal decision...in fact, she's a music addict as well, we both love jazz and vocals...kaya she appreciates the music i listen to...and she looks forward to also "playing" with my gears, o di ba??? hehehe!

but the sad thing is, this player is no longer available at the Galleria Branch of Electronics Depot. went there this afternoon hoping that i could audition it and if impressed with its features, to get it sooner than planned. but they were selling  the CD5400s like hotcakes and they already ran out of stock. good news is: new stocks will be arriving by mid of july but they're not sure yet if they can maintain its current price.

was able to audition the marantz cd5400 last night at electronics depot alabang...for about 30minutes only...kaya lang was hooked up using optical cable via marantz sr 7400 AV receiver...it's a decent sounding CDP for its price...there are a few units left...told them that if i have time this saturday, i'll bring my amp and pre-amp to test if they're OK...they do not allow home audition...warranty is 1-year...a very good 2nd CDP for your system...brought some chesky CDs with me...very nice detail...thanks guys!

how about the CD-text? have you seen it work? if your CDs have an encoded CD text information, they should appear on the display right away showing the title of the album, name of the artist, title tracks etc. The Sundance Flamenco CD by James Bobchak contains CD-Text info but dunno if the Chesky's are already CD-Text encoded.

Question to CD gurus:  Is there any CD player out there that remembers programmed selections for at least 500 discs without memory failure?  I kinda miss my disposed PC which recognized every disc I put into it and played only my favourite tracks via a programmed listing in its media player.  Even after each power shut off.

since yours is a DVD player, you might be referring to the OSD or On Screen Display feature of your player. CD Players don't have any video out jack so they cannot be hooked up to a TV or monitor. CD-Text infos only appear on the display of the CDP itself which should be a Dot Matrix Display to be more readable.

bro, the CD-text works...we tested one CD, can't remember the title but it worked for one of the tracks, twas a michael franks song...thanks!

BTW, this entry-level Marantz CD Player uses only an EI power transformer in its PS section and not the usual toroidal trannys we find on mid-priced to high-end CDPs.

Ah ok.  But I must say the DVD on screen display is very useful as the CD text shows the entire tracks on a CD, their corresponding minutes and artists (in a various artist compilation) and you can jump to any selection you want.  How is the cd-text displayed on a one-liner readout of a CD display?
