If you have a relative in the US who can bing your 980, then go for it. $169 lang sya.

Oppo, get the newer 983 model.

Pioneer 610 = around P6,500
Oppo 980 = around P11,000+
Oppo 983 = around P19,000+

Great minds discuss ideas. Small minds discuss people.

I have both the oppo 980 and pioneer 600. The 980 wins hands down imo/observation. Just by pausing you can see the pic on the pio 600 dirtier, more jaggies. The 980 pic is crisp, more fine to me. Both players use the mediatek chip, but I think the chip in the oppo is specially "tuned up, specialized"   ;) by the technicians/engineers of both oppo and mediatek. They work hand in hand together ata. I read this somewhere.  :)  If you have lots of dvds, really into dvds, want the best pic available, above 40 inch hdtv, I'd say go for the 980, its worth the extra 5 thou to me.

On a side note, I really notice the pic on the pioneer 600 darker  than the other players on factory settings. I already mentioned this in the pioneer 600 thread.  I don't know why or its just me ata  ;D, maybe Im doing something wrong here..but it really bothers me to keep adjusting the settings on the player itself, even if I calibrated na the tv..It was proof ;D on the shootout when I brought this player and pchin and streetsmart saw the settings for the contrast and brightness turned way up :D..I think they were stunned ;D..I was so ashamed ;D by the setting..I had to explain to them haha.. Im an amateur at this kinda stuff so maybe im doing something wrong, don't know how to calibrate, diff taste in picture, so maybe you can ask other owners about it. But overall naman pic is "quite good" for the pioneer 600. Also lately Ive been having problems on my pioneers (recorder dvr650h and dv600) on reading p...d discs. When I tried it on my sony ns76, its fine naman. You might wanna check the sony ns700h ata, forgot the model, saw it in sony parksquare. Its black, looks sexy, slim, shiny, ang ganda. Pic quality of this player, can't comment coz I don't own one. Good luck

has anyone had the chance of comparing the PQ and SQ of both players?  net reviews push the XDE for PQ and the 980 due to SACD playback.

would you have the same experience?

This will be an interesting comparison :o If reviews really pushes for the xde500 for PQ, then I believe the xde has the upperhand because of its affordable price.

Ya I wanna know which is better also ;D..I have the 980 and wanna get the xde500 dapat this month but I had second thoughts at the moment bec.
1. wanna wait for the new model this year, see if there is any new features.
2. maybe will be region free na out of the box ;D
3. maybe the settings will be a little different now, can just choose contrast, color, sharpness etc. by itself (no combination). Or have contrast, sharpness adjustments etc. ;D

However, Im sure this xde they are selling now will be the best built bec. the newer models might not be made that tough bec of lower cost. They will be made cheaper.

So whats the verdicts guys? Bili na?

im excited about this, i think the only time that i would really consider the oppo is if it oupaces this xde by a mile! because if its a squeaker that the oppo just edge the xde out. i would go with the xde, with its price! heck, i could get two units for the oppos price of one! (one for the living room and one for the ht) :)

Cheap nga ang XDE for a landed price fo P4,900, good in PQ..how about SQ? OPPO is already known to have the better of both. Hoping you can include the Extreme DVDp in your Shoot-Out.  8)
