New Production Turn Tables
« on: Oct 24, 2004 at 08:37 AM »
this audio hobby is a never-ending exploit to try new equipment our budget can buy. after getting one equipment, you'll soon realize you need and want another one.

i'm now on a hunt for a new production turntable and my mind is set on getting either any of these 3 budget TTs:

Pro-Ject Debut or Xpression (Czech made)

Goldring GR-1 (English made)

since the Pro-Ject TT is the more popular brand and it comes supplied with Ortofon cart, I may be leaning towards this brand. but your suggestions may greatly influence my choice and decision. and you can likewise proffer other brands within the same budget range of 15K-30K. Clearaudio is definitely not within my reach coz i'm not filthy rich. ;D  ;D

thanks in advance

Hindi talaga nakatiis!  ;D

I've been reading alot of reviews regarding the Project and Goldring but most of them are more in favor of the goldring. IMHO, better audition both as one's milage may vary.

parekuy, naka-GR1 ka na kase kaya kahit mas maganda pa yan, ayaw ko namang gumaya sayo! yung Pro-Ject na lang para maiba at nang may makalaban GR-1 mo sa shoot-out.  ;D  ;D

about the reviews, maybe you read the review from a british hi-fi mag and written by brit who would patriotically prefer a british brand over a czech-made and austrian-designed gear. Even then, the Hi-Fi Choice only gave a 4 star rating of the GR-1, thus, unimpressive. the Pro-Ject brand has been around for over 50 years while Goldring Lenco struggled and was shut down in the seventies only to be revived  just recently.

GR1 or Project TT? Project TT nalang para maiba naman.  ;D

if you dont have extra time and effort, then MP3 is the only option. ;)

As the vinyl fanatics would say: "Pangit ang plaka".

matagal ko na ginagawa yan bro...

i put my notebook computer on top of the rack, connect the output mini-jack to the RCA line in of my amp, open my Windows Media Player and play a shuffled selection of MP3s in 192kbps CD quality resolution. may video monitor na ko, may equalizer pa. :o

come to think of it... it's more convenient, fun and enjoyable. try mo minsan parekuy nang maiba ka naman... wag yung gaya gaya na lang palagi!!   ;D

Sir Audioslave it seems you're really serious with Audio now, pure analog that's good, i thought your anti-analog hehehe (you started the thread Digital VS Analog hehehe). If I have huge collection of Vinyls I'll go for analog. However, I have only 10 pcs. of collectible vinyls.
Attorney, that ultimate goal as an audiophile! Go for it!!!! Gusto mo pahanap tayo sa China ng new production TT!

i play MP3s through my head unit while in transit or while working with my mobile computer. indeed it is more convenient to use MP3 format especially during long drive or when busy working.

if only i know how to home-make:

opamp-based phono (rod elliot)
opamp-based phono
MM/MC phonostage
phono w/ output transformers
very simple / minimalist

Then let somebody do it for you (JojoD is the name hehehehe). Sir mukhang maganda ito, change mo lang na blue LED:
opamp-based phono

Di na ako maka-relate dito! Kailan kaya ako magkaka-Analog?

bias/anti-skate mechanism

Black hole principle - "A spinning mass will throw off debris at its perimeter due to kinetic energy, but drawing in any passing item into its centre". It opposes the tendency of the stylus to skate to the middle by applying an equal and opposite force to the arm, when set correctly. In other-words, they pull it back.  :D

Goldring, Rega and other TT's without such mechanism uses a spring type mechanism for bias. While Project and the likes use a weighted thread and pulley mechanism.

i'm lucky to have both the GR1 and a ProJect Debut III .

for build quality , I would go for the ProJect ... for ease of adjustment , ProJect ... for visual impact , Project ...

for sound quality , its a tie :)

so .... ProJect na !
