Additional to that, Pioneer DV-667A uses BurrBrown Audio DAC which is known for it's Quality! You can notice also that that 667A has quieter Mechanical movements which's associated to Vibration and Audio Quality! ;D

enjoy!
positive-noise. ;)

are the Pioneer DV-6__A models the only ones with burr brown? none of the pioneer websites mention burr brown dacs even on these dvd players (something that I find baffling since if I was with marketing I'd highlight that everytime). by any chance, are the lower models, even the DV-5__K burr brown units too?

I do not think that the Pioneer DV-655A have burr brown.

Am using one for a couple of years now and my older Philips DVD820 sounds so much better than the Pioneer.

Am using the DV-655A to play my DVD-Audio and SACD, for ordinary CD, am using the DAC on my Denon AVR (sound much better than Pioneer's DAC).
I went fishing the other day, and I caught a BIG ONE!

ROTEL
The RCD-1072

proves conclusively that cost-conscious high performance in a single disc CD player is still available – and still outperforming many
so-called “audiophile” DVD players.

Utilizing circuit configurations originally developed for Rotel’s reference-class components, this affordable unit redefines your sonic expectations. The segmented power supply features a large toroid transformer for minimal power supply “sag” as well as reduced hum emissions. High quality rectifiers, tight tolerance voltage regulation, and low-ESR storage capacitors make sure that all circuits always operate as their designers intended. The critical analog stage uses meticulously selected parts in a “minimalist” circuit environment to insure the finest sound quality.

The RCD-1072 uses the same over-scan disc mechanism once reserved only for premium priced players. The remarkable new Burr-Brown PCM-1732 IC provides advanced digital filtration, HDCD decoding, and precise D/A conversion. A coaxial digital output supplements the high current analog outputs. A high-density FL display, complete programming capability, remote control, and a 12-volt trigger complete the picture.

It also makes set-up and connection to the rest of A/V components much easier since everything can be connected through a single cable.

Hi,

Just quick one...

Which current model-branded dvd player have you experienced to be also good (or at least decent) with audio cd's? Im asking because im planning to have it serve as cd player as well. I understand "good" or "decent" is relative and subjective so any honest answer is appreciated.

Many thanks!

Pioneer 696 and 600av-s definitely rocks on audio. But I was really surprised with OPPO 981's audio quality. I hear details I never heared with the two pioneers. Oppo rocks better!  ;)

given the stated needs, i can reccommend the pioneer dv600... but with certain caveats on point no. 3. i have experienced skipping/hangs with my dv600 with p***ed dvd's. to be fair, i haven't experienced that naman with cd's.

the dv600 has a more affordable sibling, the dv400... but the dv600 has 192khz and supposedly burr-brown DAC's. there's not much difference in the audio performance between the coax out and the analogue (RCA) outs.

upscaling is taking the 480i video and converting it to a higher resolution, either 720p, 1080i or 1080p.

Hi gearhead,

question lang.  I also experienced yung skipping ng frames / scenes using pirated dvds (dvd9) with my dv 400.  But when I use it sa ibang player ko its working properly.  Is there a problem with my player?

I juat bought pioneer dv410, I saw in the manual that it's just 98khz dac as compared to dv600's 192 khz dac.  Is there a signicant difference between 98 and 192 dac? do you advise to just return and replace this with dv600?

TIA.

Jst a follow-up, I read somewhere that if the dvd is plugged ito an avr the avr does the audio processing and not the source.  In this case regrdless whether my dvd ony has 98khz as long as my receiver has 192K/24 Bit DACs   then I don't relly need to upgrade.  Is this correct?

has anybody tried using those old laserdisc/cd players as audio cd players lately? i do, still have the old pioneer laser disc players, which i now used as a cdp, parang i find the sound much better compared sa mga new pioneer cd/dvd players. (or baka madumi lang tainga ko ;D).

The receiver will process the audio if you connect the player digitally by using coaxial or optical cable, the DAC of the receiver will be used. Otherwise, if you use analog connection, the player's DAC will be used. So if you have a receiver with superior DAC, no need to upgrade the player IMO. :)

DV-S5 is the japanese model next to TOTL dv-s9. its euro equivalent is the dv-717... http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/reviews/hardware.asp?Index=1364

pina-convert ko to 220volts. excellent SQ, up there with my victor xlz621 & onkyo integra dx7711

kaya next time magbitaw si senyor simple ng jap.dvd player, google agad nyo! ;D

My friend, try the Marantz DV 6001, great for audio & video (HDMI can be turned off). In fact the video circuitry can be completely turned off (incl the LED display at front). Upsamples to 88.1 & 176.4 khz. Plays sacd & dvd audio.
