I just called Sights and Sounds, yung P18k is for cash purchases lang and it can't be used for the "0% interest" promo. The SRP is P20k.

18k is cash outright.  20k is their standard price for which the 6-month 0% installment is computed. That's P3,333.33 per month.   Isip isip isip din  ;D

Actually I'm torn between getting the C542 or buying a new sub. Still have the 521Bee and I do need a sub. Again there are stores here offering a 12month 0% interest on some major subs I like he he he.

Ayoko na rin mag- isip . . . . . . Maloloko na ako ;D

Actually, I used to own the NAD C542, kaso my sister needed a cd player ASAP for her new bookstore, so I sold it to her. Sabay nagka-SARS ako so nag-ambition ako for a "better" cd player.

After a month of research and listening around.... sa C542 rin pala ako mauuwi.  ;D

But if I have the cash I would go for the 18k . . . . sayang din yung 2k. Hindi mo kikitain yung 2k in 6 months for a deposit of 18k in any bank here ;D

Isip pa rin he he he  >:D

truly indeed.... after lending an ear to different locally available CDP brands out there... i would say ... the NAD C542 would shame those pricey Rotels!! and i still have to hear a player that will leave the C542 out of competition.

its simplicity is what makes it a beauty  :P

Correct ka dyan! Maganda talaga!   ;D

• HDCD® Decoder using Pacific Microsonics digital filter
• Burr-Brown Sigma-Delta 24 bit Digital to Analogue Converter
• Digital filter is 8x oversampled
• High quality Burr Brown 2134 professional grade op-amps
• Nichicon “Muse” capacitors
• Coaxial Digital Output (buffered and isolated by a transformer from the converter itself and the output impedance has been carefully tailored to produce a precise 75 ohms impedance to ensure perfect matching)
• Optical Digital Output
• Apart from the single output capacitor, no other capacitors are used in the signal path
• Low Output of 300 ohms making it less sensitive to cables or the ancillary equipment it is partnered with
• Separate Power Regulators for Analog and Digital Sections
• Careful layout of the PCB tracks around the Digital-to-Analogue converter helps to contain RF radiation and interference
• VFL Display with selectable Track, Time and Repeat
• Repeat Mode for Single Track or Entire CD
• Program Play up to 20 Tracks
• Random Play
• External IR Input
• 12V Trigger Input
• NAD CD-6 Full Function Remote Control

Bili na talaga!  Utang na talaga!  Life is too short!  >:D

Malupit yung review na yan ah.   ;D  I have yet to encounter a not-so-nice review about the C542.  Unlike the Rotel 1072 that has some.   ;D

Ok. After 4 days, my NAD C542 sounds superb again. My CD enjoyment has improved tremendously from my Pioneer DV-676A.

I strongly recommend this to anyone in search of a good CD player. You can spend much more but the sonic quality will only be the same or slightly better to cd players in the P20k to P40k range.

Also, well-recorded HDCD's like those from Linn are really great sounding! I can't wait to save for some more HDCDs.  :)

Sorry for the bad joke.

Seriously, I've heard the C542 on SS and on tubes, both times for me it is great sounding. A CDP that's definitely for keeps.

It has details, it has great bass extenstion, it has that sweet and warm sound that one hears uniquely from a NAD cdp.

Bogsle,

Hindi ko nga na-gets yung bad joke eh..  :)

Anyway, I have achieved sonic nirvana already. My system really sounds the best now than ever before. Here are the things that make me listen to CDs every morning while eating breakfast, and at night with the lights switched off except for the Christmas tree lights:

1) Imaging. I just bought the Acoustic Piano CD and it was truly enjoyable. There's this song from the Corrs where I was shocked to hear the 3 sisters in a wide soundstage while the brother was playing the piano at the back. It was easy to identify where the 3 sisters were.

Most of my CDs now have great imaging. Before, there were times when the voice would sometimes drift to the right. But now, it's firmly centered (unless the singer really moved).

2) Tonality and Scale. Voices of both male and female singers sound real and life-like in scale. It didn't shout at me anymore. The sibilance disappeared and I really can listen for hours already. I only stop when I'm too sleepy already. The sound of vocals are just sooooo sweeeeeet.

3) Detail. Ohhhhhh. Ahhhhhhh. The details that I hear now with the C542 and the Dynaudio really gives me pleasure. The sounds of cymbals and triangles and percussion is very tight and real. You can hear the decay and echoes of these instruments.

4) Bass is also enjoyable now and it sounds tight and musical. Bass lacked in my system before and I thought it was because I only had bookshelves. With the C542, the bass now has presence.

I now enjoy listening to a lot of my CDs from Audiophile, to local compilations, to acoustic, to Christmas, to Christian, to New Wave, kahit ano!

So in summary, I'm really happy with the NAD C542 and I'm glad that I decided to buy this again. For those with a P30k maximum budget, I would strongly recommend this. It's really a steal at P18,000 and I would have to commend Studio Systems for not overpricing this great cd player. I'm so happy with this CD player that I'm now considering waiting for the next generation NAD DVD-Audio player when it comes out.

By the way, I prefer buying HDCD now more than SACD or DVD-Audio because of this player.  :)

Yun lang, I just wanted to express my hapiness.  ;D

Nice personal review there, and good to hear you've reached your sonic nirvana, myki.   ;D  Hope it stays that way for long.  Until the next SARS bite comes.   ;D

With regards HDCD discs, hope I'm wrong, but it seems to me there are more DVD-A and SACD titles than HDCD.  That is why I am still in that decision stage whether to get a C542 or save a few more for a Denon universal or some other SACD player. ;D  Though I would love to have both.

mYki,

wait till you reach the 500 hrs mark - your C542 will perform at its peak.

and thanks to Studio Sytems for not overpricing the NADs here.

Bogsle was able to scout some audio stores while he's in Geneva, Switzerland and according to him, the NAD C542 and the Arcam CD-73 are equally priced in swiss francs and if converted to php peso, they would cost around 40K.

audioslave,

Really? It sounded great to me already after a week. Out of the box, it sounded dry and lacked detail. If it gets any better I might pee in my pants.   ;D

I guess Studio Systems can price it well since they really import a lot. I'm sure per container van.

So do you also use a C542?  Not much of us around.  :)

mYki,

aeris30 and i were the first to buy this player from Studio Systems last March 2004. in fact, the serial no. of our players were consecutively numbered. from my estimate, i've been using the C542 for more than 500 hrs now and it's like wine... it gets better as it aged.  ;D

you can even listen to it side by side with the Rotel RCD-1072 and you'll end up liking the NAD for being a more detailed player.  ;D

i recommended it to heropsychodreamer and he got one without blink of an eye. i'm pretty sure, he's enjoying his player now just like we do.  ;D
