Got a question guys, hope someone can help. I have an Egreat NMT and a Samsung BD5500 bluray player hooked up to a 876 AVR thru HDMI then to a Samsung 3D TV. My Egreat can play 3D movies while the the BD5500 cant. I have tried to set the BD5500 to 3D->3D, all I got is a black screen and reverts back to auto after a few seconds. Also have tried to set "through" on the AVR but no effect.

Yes. Cables imprint "high speed HDMI cable with ethernet".

I used to own 509 and its volume knob is not lighted. That's why I upgraded to 809.. joke! Hehehe..

Does the 876 have 3D passthrough capability? The Egreat NMT can simulate 3D via 2D signal, unlike the Samsung BD5500's true 3D signal.
Tama ba guru's?

The TX-SR876 has a through signal but I guess not a 3D passthrough kasi it wont play 3D signals from my 3D player. I think this is more likely what happened. So what should I do to play 3D movies from my 3D player? Do I need a HDMI signal splitter to split the signals between the TV and the 876?

Guys, need your advise...

I have a Vivaus Mini (Videoke Machine) but I still haven't saved up for a dedicated sound system for it (Spent the money in buying an Xbox  ;D). I am planning to use the 609 as an amp for the Videoke but would use Zone 2 and have a dedicated speaker for Videoke Purposes. Would zone2 be able to handle this?

tanong lang mga brader,  my NR709 stated that it delivers 110W to each of its channels into 8 ohms, then 170W into 6 ohms. since my speakers are 6 ohms, ibig bang sabihin nito na 170W ang power na nag da-drive sa spkrs ko?

tama brader
ang sabi better na mas malakas ung power ng amp sa speaker to maximize the speaker

ampf 170w
speaker 6ohm 170 below wattage will be awesome
but for sure it can also drive 170w onwards speakers

Understanding Amplifier & Receiver Power Specifications
http://www.pinoydvd.com/index.php/topic,136871.0.html

do take note that as per Onkyo's spec sheet for the 709, it's "170 W at 6 ohms, 1 kHz, 1 ch driven
of 1 % (IEC)
"

170w siya sir on 6 ohms but with 1% THD(distortion) using 1ch, so medyo inflated siya. just to compare an integrated amp:
nad 375bee
150w @ 6 ohms on .004% THD for each of it's 2-channels.

you can just imagine kung gaano kalayo ang specs ng avr vs an integrated amp. yung 170w na yun, madidivide pa into the number of channels working on your avr plus yung ganun kataas na distortion is unacceptable.

if you want to maximize your speakers, since your avr has preouts, you can add a power or integrated amp  :)

Mga Onkyo Brads,

I also have Onkyo 609 at plano ko mag upgrade ng floorstander. Ano ba bagay sa kanya.  I am more into movies, mga 80% at 20% music. I am looking at Polk Audio RTI  or PSB.  Based from your experience, ano mas bagay or any other brand na bagay sa Onkyo. Thanks

Based from experience (Onkyo 805 and RTi A3) maganda Rti with Onkyo lalo na sa movies. Panalo yan bro ;)
Suggest ko Rti A5 coz A7 or A9 baka mahirapan ang 609 to drive them... ;)

i don't believe the statement that 170 watts divided into the no. of channels working is entirely accurate...

take Home Theater Magazine's bench test of the TX-NR609:
http://www.hometheater.com/content/onkyo-tx-nr609-av-receiver

Quote
HT Labs Measures
Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 81.0 watts
1% distortion at 95.1 watts

Seven channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 77.7 watts
1% distortion at 88.9 watts

(graph)

This graph shows that the TX-NR609’s left channel, from CD input to speaker output with two channels driving 8-ohm loads, reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 105.6 watts and 1 percent distortion at 124.3 watts. Into 4 ohms, the amplifier reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 146.8 watts and 1 percent distortion at 188.6 watts.

given these test results from the lower model, I would suspect that Onkyo 709's clean power would be more or less the same, about a bit higher by a couple of watts. I estimate that the 709 will produce about 100 watts per channel into 6 ohms, all channels driven simultaneously, .1% distortion

but of course, these are just numbers. what's more important is whether or not you find your current setup lacking...

Yup I should have rephrased that better. The total power output should lower down proportionally based on the number of channels being driven.

Sharing an article on an older Onkyo 7-series
http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/article/onkyo-tx-sr706-av-receiver?page=0,2

Quote
The TX-SR706's lab results were almost without exception excellent, with near-reference noise, linearity, response, and distortion. The sole exception was power output: While the unit cheerfully produced around 80 watts with five channels driven into 8 ohms, like some other mid-priced receivers it would only do so for short periods (a few hundred milliseconds) before current-limiting to approximately one-fourth power. But this situation is very unlikely ever to occur in actual use with real program material, which is far less demanding than sine tones and which virtually never peaks more than one or two channels simultaneously. My listening tests (performed as always before lab measurements) never elicited any shortage of power or dynamic freedom. Note that the above results all reflect the Onkyo's "6 ohms" software setup option. When set to the 4 ohms position, which presumably current-limits the power amps, results declined uniformly to about 35 watts maximum.
To summarize, yes it can reach 70 to 80w easily while running 5-channels on an ok THD level but it won't be able to last for about 5 seconds before it clips when run continuously. That max 35w posted is even running on 4-ohms, just imagine how many watts it will get on 8-ohms. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Onkyo, I'm actually gonna get another one of their avrs, probably a 709 or an 809 in the future but I'm just not setting my expectations that high. Plus you are right, if your ears are satisfied with the performance of the AVR, good for you, you just saved a ton of money  :)

Corret me if I am wrong but these are the conclusions that I came up with the wattage count (based on the assumption that a power amp would not be added to the setup):

- higher sensitivity speakers would help a lot so as not to strain the AVR
- stay with 5.1 set up as much as possible

If the amp spec says something about the damping factor, that should also help. there are low wattage amps with high damping factors that can run a speaker nicely because it has good control over the driver.
