skylynx, mine is also the 60GB Asian. Try again & let us know the outcome. If you have the latest up shouldn't be any problem. (Tho my PS3 hasn't got the latest firmware, it can still play the Hulk) :)

FW 2.60 is already out.

It's a 140MB download.

This is included in the Resident Evil 5 game. It will prompt you if you would like to upgrade  ;)

yes, for ps3, only bd movies have region locks.

I'm a new PS3 owner here and I'm planning to use it to play BD titles.  However, I read from a thread here in PDVD that BD's can cause the lens of PS3 to break down faster... How true is this statement?

no modification what so ever.   i dont recommend watching blu ray on ps3 as it can cause the lens to break down faster unlike playing games which doesnt read the disc as often.  playing ps2 backward compatibility is not recommended as you will still need to have a original ps2 to play it. much better pa cguro buy ka nalang ng slim ps2 to play your old ps2 games

Hi guys!  I read in another website forum about "DLC Games" for PS3.  Someone is selling it at 300 - 400 depending on the version (Asian or US).  Do you know what DLCs are?

Thanks!

These are Downloadable Contents from the Playstation Store.... Depending on the games, some sellers are selling them @ 1-1.5k - package of 5-10games......

Thanks Skylynx!  So do you mean that these DLCs won't play unless you have the BD game with you?  It's just like a plug-in or an additional feature with that game? :)

all games downloaded from the PS store are full version, no bds needed  ;)
The only time you will be needing the bd game is when you are downloading add ons for a particular game. Tulad po ng Call of Duty games - you download the map packs for additional maps in the game

Have you guys notice na kapag enabled sa audio settings ng PS3 nyo yung DTS and AAC format, most games like Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 doesnt have any sounds.

medyo hassle lang kasi if I play these games and decides on playing a BD movie,i-enable ko ulit since I like using DTS better than the normal dolby digital

sir panung walang sounds? i played Killzone2 with DTS and AAC enabled, and all possible PCM output unchecked.  Gumagana naman sir... My hk 255 displayed 5.1 channel DTS when i played it.
There's only one way to find out right?

I'm watching Blu-ray movies & playing Ressitance 2 w/out any problem, I'm using HDMI audio. Not sure if this has anything to do with the problem.

sir baka it depends on the receiver getting the audio signal from the ps3 - might be that it doesnt support "other" sound formats kaya nagiging silent nalang un game

this hasnt happened to me yet, but thats just my 2 cents

hope this helps!

BTW, i read the region lock thing regarding BD's and (correct me if im wrong) i think there are just a few titles that are region locked, less than 10 pa nga ata e, so its not that much of a problem pa naman pala =)

to skylynx888 - that happened to me before too (un stuck at loading stage un BD) pero i just tried it again and again and it went through na, had this slight problem with the transformers BD that i now watch as often as i want  ;)

doon sa XMB ng ps3, go to either the music or video icon, press triangle button, then select view all, browse ka lang

I am using a PS3 to play BlueRay discs.  I also bought a the OEM remote control.  I just don't know how to turn the unit off using the remote comtrol.  Is it possible to turn it off with the remote comtrol?  By the way,  I observed that my unit decodes DTS Lessloss MA.  I read somewhere that out-of-box PS3 aren't suppose to be capable of doing this without a firmware upgrade.  Am I right?

just press the PS button in the remote for 2-3seconds  ;)

The PS3 convert TrueHD and DTS-HD MA to PCM and stream it, for now PS3 doesnt have the capability to bitstream DTS-HD MA. Thats why receivers can not get the signal from the PS3 so it will not display DTS-HD MA. The chipset in the PS3 is HDMI 1.3 not 1.3a.

The PS button is the one just above the SELECT & START button, bro.  :D
After you shall have pressed that button (as recommended by bro. skylynx), the "Turn off your system" menu will appear on your panel.

hmm interesting, just a question, since the bd remote has all the usual buttons on the ps3 controllers, can it be used as some sort of tempo controller?

hehehe, this might be a weird question, but I wanted to hear your comments and experience on this  ;D

by the way, i've been contemplating if i should sell my ps3 and get a stand alone bd player, is there really much of a difference? or would it be better if i just purchase the ps3 bd remote and use it as it is (for games and bd's)

thanks!  :D

What's a tempo controller? Hmm...it's sure a weird ques.  ;D

As for the PS3, it depends on your personal preference if you're using your PS3 for watching movies, playing games, listening to music/songs, etc. :)

For me, PS3 is a very versatile machine, I use it to display all my photos in my HDTV so the whole family can view them. Also from time to time I play games & listen to downloaded music.

As for a BD player, I'm very satisfy with its performance but for those who watch lots of BD movies & own HDMI AVR capable of decoding the DTS-HD MA might want to consider standalone BD player that can output the audio bitstream in order to take full advantage of their HDMI Receivers. :)
