gentlemen,

what is the best stereo speaker for an onkyo 606?

Since nobody answered your question, maybe I can give you my personal input to help you decide which one suits you. Disclaimer: I'm not an expert/audiophile so better audition them yourself before deciding.  :)

If you're looking for entry-level speakers, try the new Mission speakers.  I heard their floorstanders (don't know the model) paired up with Onkyo 606.  It sounded nice and clearer than Wharfedale 9.5, which sounds a little bit muddy (ngo-ngo) [Onkyo = warm receiver; Wharfe = warm speaker].  The prob with the mission model I auditioned is that its base is weaker and less punchy than Wharfe 9.5.  Check out how the other Mission models sound.  But overall, maganda naman tumunog ang Mission.

But if you're looking for a mid-end speaker, try B&W 685 (bookshelf).  I heard it paired up with Onkyo 606 and it sounded very crisp and laid back at the same time.  Compared with Mission, B&W 685 has more open soundstage while Mission sounded thin in comparison.  I had the opportunity and time to audition the B&W's 600 series paired up with Onkyo 606.  Check my observation here: http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=56933.1140  I don't personally recommend considering higher end speakers unless you also upgrade to a higher end receiver in order to bring out the best of these speakers.  ;D

Hope this helps. Good luck and balitaan mo kami!  :D

We have Mission Mission MV-6 hooked up with Onkyo TXSR606 on display at Sights and Sounds 4th level Shangri-la Plaza. We invite you to listen to this set-up. Many people who listen to this claim that Mission sounds very exciting: warm yet with punch, detail presentation, wide sound stage.

We sell:
MV-6 at 12 months P12,300.

Missions complement well with Denon. You may need surround MV-DS at 12 months P9K and MV-C center at 12 months P6600.

For your budget of P12K, you can opt for a pair of Wharfedale 9DFS dipole surround speakers amounting to P4500. and a unit of Wharfedale Diamond center 9CS amounting P4500. for surround center. We prefer dipole speakers for side surround (not back surround. Please note that we don't put back surround together with back center to create 6 channels.) to take advantage of reflected sound that create a wider soundfield.

small bookshelf speakers would probably do the job, does the Onkyo 606 and Denon 1909 have preouts?

if yes, add an optional power amp and you could probably go for large bookshelf or floorstander speakers.

For budget, Mission MV series and Wharfedale Diamond series complement well with Onkyo and Denon.

For Mid, Klipsch RF series performs outstanding with the above recievers.

For high budget, Paradigm sings very well.

We have tried recently the Klipsch RB10 bookshelf and RF10 floorstanding on TXSR-606. The music is just amazing: trebel is gentle, forward and full. Mid is sweet, smooth, and warm. bass is articulate, agile, and impact.

We have Onkyo TXSR606 and Klipsch for your try out at Sights and Sounds. Visit us and evaluate the sound quality.

sir, which Mission MV speakers would go well with the Denon 1909?  and how much would those be?  i'm tempted to ask about the klipsch, but afraid of SARS!  :D :D :D  what's the difference anyway in quality between mission and klipsch?  would it be a noticeable diff?  thanks!

You really need to audition the Klipsch. This speaker really delivers lively sound that's packed with detail. There is great stereo imaging and produce agile mid and bass.

Klipsch is a mid budget speaker--price tag higher than Mission, but not as expensive as B&W, Paradigm or Monitor Audio.

Mission produces plenty of detail and deliver it in a forthright and direct manner. Its timing is good and overall clarity is impressive. However, this speaker has a forward and pinched sounding treble, which, if the speakers are poorly matched with say a Pioneer budget stereo amp, might present the sound a bit too lively that lacks refinement and insight.
