I think you are referring to the height and width channels. Audyssey recommends that they are at least of the same family as the other speakers. However:
1. The height channels will surely be bookshelf because they are ceiling-mounted.
2. A lot of people have commented that there is not a huge amount of sound coming from both the height and width channels, at least as compared to the fronts and the center.
3. Audyssey EQ helps to make the timbre of different speakers sound similar.
Therefore:
1. I will use bookshelves for the height channels.
2. I will use a floorstander for the wide channels.
3. Initially, I will use totally different speakers for wide/height (JBL) as compared to the fronts and center (PSB) because those are the extra speakers that I already have. I am guessing that the sound will already be pretty good, in which case I won't need to change the speakers. I don't think that the difference in speaker brand/model will make that much difference. Of course, this also saves money for me cuz I don't need to buy new speakers.
