After 2 weeks of using the new video processor, I have begun to appreciate it a lot more. It adds more detail, sharpens the images and adds a 3-D quality to the pictures.

While it can improve the picture of any DVD, I think it can be best appreciated when you are watching older material whose picture quality is soft. The video processor greatly improves the picture.

As a result, I am now even less inclined to jump into the HD bandwagon. :)

wowowee... talagang HD na HD na ang dating ngayon. wala akong masabi. hope we can drop by there na din. tagal nang napupurnada ang sched namin.  :(

tama nga, there's value to be had by sticking to your current cache of SD DVD especially if high bitrate naman... and then investing in a good standalone processor. if we say mga P1k on average ang premium ng HD-DVD/blu-ray against standard dvd's, mga 30 titles lang bawi ka na. kung meron kang mga 100 or more titles, all of that will benefit from the better performance of that external video processor.

congrats ulit, sir mark.  ;)

Sayang nga that you couldn't stay longer. E paano naman:
1) Kina-calibrate pa ang picture. 2 p.m. kami natapos.
2) Naghihintay yung special mo na service vehicle. Secret.  ;D

D bale, kapitbahay naman pala tayo. Next time na lang.

With the external video processor, nagiging near-HD quality ang mga SD DVD with high bit-rate or basta generally well-produced. In fact, I would say that they many will look just as good or even better than some HD discs, especially when combined with my projector.

Pero mahilig din ako sa older material na ang ganda naman ng movie for the movie's sake, such as: Passage to India, Ordinary People, Sophie's Choice, Bonnie and Clyde, It Happened One Night, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, etc., most of which might take a lot of years before they come out on HD-DVD. Without an external video processor, these DVD's would look generally soft but with the vp, the pq improves a lot so you don't get distracted by the poor picture.

Actually, I have exactly 931 SD DVD titles, boxsets counted as one, including 234 concerts.  ;D  My thinking is that each time I improve my current set-up, each of those DVD's appreciates in "viewing value." Right now, its pretty fun to watch an older SD DVD na nakalimutan ko na storya. With the new video processor and screen, the experience is really different!  :)

Hope you can come soon sa bahay! :)

dami!  :o :o

congrats on new additions to the set up.

What's more important to me is not the quantity of DVD's but the quality. Kaya ngayon, as much as possible, I check out reviews before buying any DVD. Pero syempre, may mga exception.  ;D

Regarding the new additions, thanks for the congrats. Problema ko nga is that wala na ako masyado maisip para ma-improve pa. Kasi rin, for the meantime, ayoko uli bumili ng HD or BD. Kakalungkot. :(

Sir Streetsmart,

jay

The normal screen has a gain of 1.0. This high-gain screen is 2.8 and it increases light output by 2.8 times.

My problem was that humihina light output ng pj ko over time. With the new screen, the picture is visibly brighter.

Barco nga lang but it should be similar to your Sony.

Hehe.  ;D

Parang 3-D kasi ang dating. I guess its the total effect of processor, projector and screen.  :)

Aside from Bruce Willis, the screenshots came from Shakespeare in Love. Reference material pala yun.

Idol streetsmart,

I was SARSd  ;D by the PQ of your HT!

So here, i'm planning to get a DVDO vp20 or vp30 video processor @ +/-US$2k. Output thru my Panny AX-100. Pa advise naman Sir ng pros and cons. This is intended to maximize use of my existing SDs, similar as yours.

Thanks in advance and your posts really helped a lot to us here at PDVD. Mabuhay ka Sir.

Just a quick note kasi have to rush to a meeting. Baka longer post bukas.

Quick advice is to get a VP30. Ang alam ko is that there is a big difference between VP20 and VP30 but difference between VP30 and VP50 is less. Kaya VP30 is a good buy.

Better to get it through AV Driver kasi sila ang distributor dito so it will be easier to upgrade in the future. They can give it to you at the MSRP dollar price. Also, you should insist that isama nila as added service ang video calibration. Libre na dapat yun.

Last advice for now is to request AV Driver that you audition the VP30 sa set-up mo. Yun ang the best kasi makikita mo talaga ang difference. You should be able to tell the difference immediately.

Cheers!

Thank you sir for the quick response. Gamit ko is ax-100 on a 133" screen. Wanted to upgrade my projector to 1080p kaso wala pang projector na 2000+ lumens na kasya sa budget. Would love to get sana yung vpl-60 kaso lumens parin ang problema specially pag nagtagal na ang bulb. The cheapest solution I think is liitan yung screen or taasan ang gain. I choose the latter :) Nagpadala ako ng sample fabric sa dalite pero di pa dumarating.
Ang dumating is a sample from sheerweave AT screen na 1.16 ang gain but not much ang difference sa screen ko ngayon. Playing on an idea kasi na ilagay ko speakers at the back of the screen and get a 2.40 screen para sinehan  ang dating. :)
