lakers-mavs, what a game. kobe for 52, and you can see he's got his old game face back. j-kidd missed a ft that would have sent it to 2ot. at least he was on the floor at crunch time, this time.
thanks!!!   thanks for the update....I know this will be a routine affair.....running away from licensing hunters!!

nice game!!   they have to win...I woke up 4:30 am just to watch them...hehe  ;D ;D

How about them Houston Rockets?  I'm not a Rockets fan, but 19 straight wins in this league is amazing.  Without Yao.  ???

I think they can easily go to 21 straight with a road win over ATL and another home win over CHA.  What I want to see is their home game vs. LAL on March 16.  Will this be televised?  That'll be Monday morning here so I'm hoping C/S Sports will show it since I'm stuck with crappy Skycable.

Yup, Houston is indeed amazing -- pero mga 7 games lang naman wala si Yao. Not the entire 19 game streak.
I think it's more on other people scoring (Alston, Scola, Battier, Head etc) that's giving them the edge.
Kasi you know that you'll get something from TMac (and Yao) pero before the others were inconsistent.
Pero the streak becomes a hollow record if they don't show up sa Playoffs.
They might have a tough first round in Utah (I think they lost the series to Utah last year).

The LA-Houston game will be aired on BTV. There is a chance that they air it at the same time in C/S.
They (C/S) always have a Monday telecast of an NBA game.

Houston doing well with Half-man-half-a-season Tmac still standing? Efiing amazing, especially since Yao's gone for the season! I hope they play as hard come playoff time.

I think they've been good on defense even before this season -- that's what Jeff Van Gundy brought to Houston.
I think the players are now more comfortable on offense since they are more free under Adelman.
And again the players (outside of T-Mac and Yao) are more consistent offensively.

Monday is a big test for this team -- it's a good measuring stick for them in terms of how they can perform in the playoffs.

and they passed the big tst today...despite tmac palying sub par..4-16 shooting..kobe was also not efficient..11-33 FG shooting. thanks to shane's defense, alstons 3 pt shooting 8-11 and bobby jacksons contribution from the bench..19 pts

22 wins in a row!!! WOW!!!! Even the 72-10 Bulls didn't rack up a win streak like that! Phenomenal!
Now only 11 more to go and they even the 33-win streak of the Lakers of old (West, Goodrich and Chamberlain ata yun).
They have a tough roadie ahead of them...I think in the strecth they have Boston, NO, GS, and Phoenix.
But this streak catapulted them from 10th to 1st -- and almost half of that without Yao.

Also, the Nuggets drop 168 pts on the lowly Sonics!

The season is winding down, with only a couple of games left for each of the teams.  While the Celtics virtually have a lock on the top seed over-all and the playoff teams in the East are more or less determined (except for the seeding of the teams that will not have homecourt advantage), the playoff picture out West is still a bit unclear.  There are a couple of crucial games coming up in the final two weeks of the season involving these Western contenders which will finally decide who gets the top seed (NOH?  SAS?  LAL?).  This may not amount to much though, given the level of competition from the other contenders (PHO, HOU, DAL, DEN, UTA - I think GSW will drop out now that Dirk's back).  Should be an exciting prelude to what promises to be a more exciting post-season in the West.

But there's a lot of online talk too coming from several NBA "experts" about the race for the individual awards, particularly this year's MVP.  CP3?  Kobe?  KG?  King James?  IMO, if LAL bags the top seed in the West, it's going to be Kobe.  If LAL doesn't get the top West seed, it's going to be KG, which is also deserving.  No disrespect to CP3 (if they get the top seed in the West), but I don't think he's "popular" enough or is at the level of these other superstars to get the votes needed to be MVP.  Lebron is a special player too, but I don't think you can give the MVP award to a player from a team that's hovering around the middle of the pack of this year's Eastern Conference.

What do you guys think?

This year's All-NBA first team: these four players + Dwight Howard.

Can't wait for the playoffs to begin!  ;D  Back to work...  >:(

We deserve better.

Pretty exciting play-offs, especially sa West.  Free for all dun.  Imagine, a 50 win team may not make it to the post season?

Regarding the MVP race, I feel its gonna be a three player race between Kobe, CP3 and KG.   Kobe and CP3 has the numbers, while KG anchored the Celtic turnaround, and their impressive team defense.   Kobe and CP3 though has the advantage if they put their team on the top of the West.  KG will be the darkhorse....

Lebron has the best stats of all the contenders, but no 50 win season in the East, no MVP for him..... ;)

Also, browsing through ESPN, I just now realized that with only 2 weeks to go, no one in the West has claimed a playoff spot! :o

9th place: denver (no offense, nuggets fans)

I don't think they deserve it anyway with the way Denver is playing. But I still hope they make it and face the Hornets instead of the Spurs.

mvp, finals: mamba

 ???

They're not even playing in the finals  :P

I hate to post this in a Laker thread, but I see a Celtics-Spurs matchup.

In my opinion, MVP should be Chris Paul.  Look what he has done to the Hornets.

But I am sure, the voters will give it to Kobe.

I was hoping for the Mavs to get the 8th seed. NBA awards Kobe the MVP. A first round upset, #8 defeating #1. Dirk gets his justice! Oh well, maybe on his next lifetime  ;D

Any news on Bynum? IMO they can rest him until the second round. They probably won't need him against the defenseless Nuggs.

Does anyone know how will the rankings be affected with the Jazz-Spurs game? I can't believe I'm actually afraid for the Spurs to go against the Suns in the first round. They're built to destroy the Spurs, but unfortunately that's the only award they'll get this playoffs  :P

Best case scenario for San Antonio is Houston. Considering their recent play specifically on the offensive end, a match up against Utah or Phoenix would be a nightmare. Manu will be ready for the playoffs but they need a shooter like Barry to improve their spacing against the Jazz or the Suns. Unfortunately for them, Horry is a complete non factor because of injuries.

Looks like its gonna be like this:

3.  San Antonio
4.  Utah
5.  Houston
6.  Phoenix

*Houston will have homecourt advantage

Challenging road for the Suns
Round 1: Spurs
Round 2: Dallas (Yes, I'm underestimating the Hornets)
