The season is winding down, with only a couple of games left for each of the teams. While the Celtics virtually have a lock on the top seed over-all and the playoff teams in the East are more or less determined (except for the seeding of the teams that will not have homecourt advantage), the playoff picture out West is still a bit unclear. There are a couple of crucial games coming up in the final two weeks of the season involving these Western contenders which will finally decide who gets the top seed (NOH? SAS? LAL?). This may not amount to much though, given the level of competition from the other contenders (PHO, HOU, DAL, DEN, UTA - I think GSW will drop out now that Dirk's back). Should be an exciting prelude to what promises to be a more exciting post-season in the West.
But there's a lot of online talk too coming from several NBA "experts" about the race for the individual awards, particularly this year's MVP. CP3? Kobe? KG? King James? IMO, if LAL bags the top seed in the West, it's going to be Kobe. If LAL doesn't get the top West seed, it's going to be KG, which is also deserving. No disrespect to CP3 (if they get the top seed in the West), but I don't think he's "popular" enough or is at the level of these other superstars to get the votes needed to be MVP. Lebron is a special player too, but I don't think you can give the MVP award to a player from a team that's hovering around the middle of the pack of this year's Eastern Conference.
What do you guys think?
This year's All-NBA first team: these four players + Dwight Howard.
Can't wait for the playoffs to begin!
