Meron po bang step by step instruction for installing xbmc for windows and linux?

Pa-share naman po. ;)

Setting up XBMC

If you want XBMC to startup like an NMT install XBMC Live in your hard drive. Deretso na yan at wala ng dadaang OS.

Eto po yung HTPC specs ko mga boss. Hindi ganun ka lakas pero it serves me well for like almost 3 years now as my media PC. Mass Effect 2 lang currently nilalaro ko at crysis 2 yung mga games na di maxado cpu hog in a decent resolution with a very impressive frame rate. This is really a very cheap setup for me. :)

Amd Athlon II X3 440 3.0 ghz
Thermaltake 500 w new edition
Palit Geforce 9800gt 512 GDDR3
Asrock Motherboard N68-S
2gb kingston 800 mhz ram
160 gb Samsung HD
380 gb WD HD
500 gb external Touro Mobile

Here is my current XBMC Skin

Here are my sample of screenshots taken from MPC-HC player with coreAVC output filter is MadVR ( for videophile like me ) Awesome quality btw :)

APOCALYPSE NOW

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN

Suggest ko din mas maganda talaga pag my 24p output to avoid jitters. This will eliminate artifacts and gives the whole scenes watchable. Good tweaks will be useful

Asrock E350
4 gig ram
32 gig ssd
apex itx case
tp link usb wifi
cdrking remote
windows 7 64
xbmc pre eden
eventghost.

anyone using this remote?

How can i emulate the mouse button as arrow keys? hindi nakikita ang mouse events sa eventghost.
But all the other button are working just fine.

Nweis. I bought another remote also from cdrking this time w/o the mouse feature. Its not listed on cdrkings website.
This one's works like a charm although you need to disable couple of features on windows due to conflict. You also need to program the remote with eventghost.

I'm also using this type of remote. It's an MCE remote that emulates keyboard strokes. For XBMC, you can map the keys by altering the keyboard.xml that can be found in the userdata or program files/XBMC folder. Not sure if it will work with the XBMC version that you have. What I saw working with it is the Dharma version. Just google it to be sure. Boxee media player kasi gamit ko so I cannot totally compare it though the framework of Boxee is also XBMC. What I did was to map the numeric keys to work as arrow keys. Pati yung pause, play, stop, etc dun ko na din minap. Btw, you'll be needing the Media Center mapping table that shows what command maps to what button (e.g. Picture button, the yellow one actually sends ctrl+i) or a program called "showkey" to determine the actual keypresses being emulated by the remote on the fly.

Btw, I've tried IR "intercept" softwares like Eventghost, Intelliremote, LMkeymap but for some reason, it didn't work with this remote. If you only need it for specific purpose like controlling your media center, the direct keymap through the xml is the way to go without any software. Although not all keys might work. You can also launch programs through shortcut hotkeys. For me, I've used the "DVD Menu" button to launch Boxee.

Hope this helps.

^ @nerveblocker,

Have you remapped the remote / configured with eventghost or it worked out of the box with XBMC?

I don't use Eventghost.  Out of the box the remote will work in XBMC.

Here's my HTPC setup by the way. It's "just" a netbook ;) :

ASUS Eee PC 1201PN
Intel atom N450
Nvidia ion2 graphics card
2GB DDR2 RAM
250GB Hard Drive
Windows 7 Starter
HDMI output
Boxee media suite
uTorrent client
Mipony filesharing site download manager (filesonic, fileserve, etc)
Connectify (improvised "common home network" setup through Windows 7 Wifi network sharing)
Android Phone USB Tethering or Smart Bro dongle (for internet connectivity)
CDR King TM-RM04 remote control
1TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Ultraportable Drive

Basically, the HTPC is hooked up to my Sony Bravia HDTV and I just remotely administer it using my IPAD connected to a common home network. With this setup, I'm able to search the internet through my tablet pc and download movies into the HTPC using uTorrent remote access. Same goes for filesharing sites like filesonic, this time using another cool software called Mipony. The Boxee media suite likewise can be controlled using Ipad applications like "Reemote for Boxee". This lets me browse the media content of my HTPC and select the movie I want to be played through IPAD control. This plays unto the TV with a few touches. The "Mobile Mouse" for Ipad serves as the mouse+keyboard to control the HTPC desktop.

I know some of the capabilities are built in already in some NMTs but the flexibility which the HTPC setup offers e.g. codec upgrade, diversified media suite options, and interoperability, are something I'm fond of having instead of a "canned" setup. So goes the decision of buying the P9,500 Asus Eee PC and a couple more bucks for its accessories against an NMT ;D

Musicgeek- I'm just wondering if you can play HD contents on your EeePC setup Or are you just playing avi files?

It can handle HD content inclusive of huge MKV files. The netbook screen resolution itself is only 1366 x 768 but it can play full HD / 1080p to an external output. It has the NVIDIA ION graphics card which handles HD media quite well. Same card used in multimedia laptops. Main drawback of this netbook is the relatively weak Intel atom N450 1.66GHZ processor. But it doesn't matter for movie playing purposes as its within that CPU resource. So far so good naman.

@lmerb,
For what its worth since you've bought a new remote with directional keys, I've found a solution for your "old" MCE remote control using autohotkey. Basically, there's a script that was developed for Boxee that converts mouse movement into arrow key presses. I've tested it with Boxee and works fine. It should work with XBMC with minor script modification though I haven't dipped into that yet. Hope this helps anyone who has a remote with mouse instead of arrow keys like the one posted here. This will also be useful for using a wireless mouse as an improvised remote control with the ease of navigation as with the directional keys.

Yup. Pause and stop both triggers ctrl+shift+s. Does your new remote behave the same way? You can just remap other buttons like record as stop or pause button via autohotkey or xbmc keyboard.xml if that's the case.

For those of you who's going to use the script I posted earlier with the mce remote, you need to change "movementStep" from 100 to optimal value of 3, replace "BOXEE" to "XBMC" both are found in the autohotkey script; separately untick "enable mouse" in xbmc system settings.

yes sir i use eventghost. im using windows 7 ultimate 64. you will need to disable windows suspend on keypress action.
go to control panel -> power option -> choose what the power buttons do -> select do nothing

now you can map the remote's power button to xbmc's shutdown menu

hope it helps
