Thanks . . how much po ba SRP nito sa Pinas? I know meron nagbebenta dito na galing from US, pero medyo paranoid ako sa warranty e, kaya gusto ko sana yung galing dito yung bilhin for the warranty. Or kung mura sa Singapore dun nalang, kasi madali naman padala dun kung sakali may deffect.

XDE-500 initial impression/s:

Connected to a Panny PV80:

Connecting the player to the T.V via HDMI it automatically set the resolution to 720p and the XDE mode was kept at "sharp" by default. I did not bother going to 1080p because I don't use FULL HD resolutions on an HD-Ready T.V.

Underworld Evolution DVD: (XDE=ON)

At first I really noticed a significant "jump" in terms of picture quality over a Pioneer DV-410v and DV-600. I even thought for a moment, that the picture definition finally brought DVD to near true "high-def" standards. That, unfortunately was simply "biglang tingin" and after a few moments and a close inspection of the of picture quality. I noticed that the film was smothered with "edge-enhancement" marring intricate details. This is a very subjective issue as some folks in the house seem to like the effect. However, I was not too blown away by it because it made the film a little less than film like.

XDE=OFF

Now, this was a better picture definition for me, it's natural sharpness does not give it a more "digital" image, but it's still crisper and cleaner over my Pioneers without the bugs of edge enhancement.

My observation:

Still a good upscaler that surprisingly performs better without the bannered "enhancements".

More on this later, when we get to try it on a native 1080p set like the PY800 and the A650.

POST UPDATE:

Quick questions I got from my PM box and my answers:

1) Is it close to High-Def?

When the XDE is switched-on, it gives a somewhat "high-def" look.

2) Better than Pioneer 410v or 600?

Yes, cleaner, sharper and better defined colors even with XDE switched-off

Got mine from anya yesterday, Panalong-panalo for its price, wala akong masabi sa performance, picture quality is near HD, i like the XDE mode and its 3D effect  :D

Now it is set to 1080p/24f, kinaya ng 42PV80 ko, oks na oks pag Fast Action scene (Transformers (SD))
 8) 8) 8)

btw, my unit is already region free na so di ko na nagamit yung pag-unlock nya ;)

Just got this unit from SG, but I'm having a problem, walang lumalabas na audio sa TV using HDMI.

My TV is a Pana 42PV70 and I'm using a generic HDMI cable (yung libre sa TV :)). I have set the TV to accept digital audio input and set the XDE to ouptut PCM (this was indicated on the manual) but still no sound. There were no problems using component cables.

Any help will be very much appreciated, hopefully di ako nakakuha ng bad unit. May kinalaman kaya sa HDMI cable or dahil **** dvd's gamit ko?

Paano po original setup nyo?

Im using Standard Setup of my PV80, i just changed the color temperature to Cool, then set my XDE500 to 1080p, in this case i set the XDE mode to Contrast... the result is near HD ;)

HDMI lang for the TV audio and video, no audio cables connected from my dvd player to the TV :)  ...though napansin ko lang that you need to increase the volume level of your tv when watching dvds if TV speakers lang ang gamit mo..

Eto ang di ko mapaandar. Ano po settings ng TV nyo and player nyo para mapalabas yng audio through HDMI? Actually I gave up on this setup and settled with audio cables nalang, naisip ko kasi baka walang capability yung tv(Pana 42PV70) ko to accept digital signals and di nya madecode kaya walang sound, anybody who can confirm this? :)

I just have to settle with good PQ with analog audio, works fine with me for now, pag bumili nalang ako speaker system tsaka ko problemahin yun. :)

Read your post and went down to our PV70 with my player (XDE-500) and tested it - Ok naman sir!

Video set to "Auto" lumabas 720p

Audio set to "PCM" and Night Mode "Off"

Using generic HDMI cable! Playing "I AM LEGEND" now.

Baka cable nyo boss ;)

Actually sir, my wife who still often watches movies say na mas "theatre" like nga ang PV70 namin with this player over our newer PV80 and PY800!

Settings nya

Cinema

Contrast 50
Brightness 48
Color 50
Sharpness 50
Tint Middle
Temp Warm
Color Management Off

Tapos close all yer lights!

@ crossedge - I have this toshiba xde connected to my toshiba regza lcd. No problem at all using HDMi connecion.

Note, however that some lcd have two types of HDMi input capabilty.
   1) with video and audio support. (usually found at HDMi 1)
   2) with video support ONLY. (usually found at HDMi 2).
You are then required to use analog coonections for audio.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your replies. Baka nga hdmi ko may problem. Try ko muna manghiram ng ibang hdmi to test it out.

Sir Carlo may sinet pa po ba kayo sa TV nyo to accept audio from hdmi?

Nope, the audio is at default so there was no set-up of any kind. Plug and play^

HDMI is the 1.3 version but will have to verify that.

I got my 3 units Toshiba XD-E500 from sir Anya yesterday. Tested all 3.and pq was consistently great.I played Tears of the Sun and paused the screen showing the face of Bruce Willis, then tested the 3 modes while screen is at paused. and found out that the picture is more natural at "Sharp". Mas kita yung mga butas sa mukha ni Bruce Willis. ;D

While the pq of XDE is better than my Pioneer dv600. The sound volume of XDE is very low compared to the dv600. halos kalahati yung difference. The sound of dv600 is adequate on my 42pv80 at 30, but I need to adjust to 50-60 when using the XDE. I set it PCM. Is there a way to adjust the volume sa  unit of XDE? Please advise mga sirs.   :D
