if you have one right now at hand you can check it via your computer .. :)
midi files are small, thus lotsa songs can be inserted inside a cd or dvd ..
i dont have one myself, so i cant just go there and try it out .. :)
ahh ganito nalang how many songs are there in a disk?

I don't have any MIDI files, what I have is the 500 songs AVI files that came with the Quiapo acquired DVD player(895 pesos with free 500 songs, and yes 500 lang siya, alam ko sa SM sabi noon sales person may 1000 songs daw)...he-he

What I have tried to experiment with is the VCD  Karaoke, which I transferred to the USB as AVESEQ files and it played well....as a Karaoke.

As for the MIDI files, I cannot answer your question, maybe someone who has such a file, can try it out.

But if this is the Magic Sing files that your'e asking, I don't think so.  ???

ok its a different league pala .. if its AVI then that should be of better quality than the MIDI ..
MIDI files are smaller, pretty much like those ringtones from old nokia phones ;D

Hi friends, after reading this thread I decided to buy this DVD player as well. So far I'm satisfied with it. It is now connected to my AVR via optical cable.

Question: What's the best settings so I can fully utilize it's digital audio features?

Bought one in MOA for Php 2,450 yesterday.   Played several movies Kung Fu Panda, Righteous Kill and Crank and was pleasantly surprised with the improvement of PQ in  the output of my  LCD TV.

By the way, Im pretty new with the LCD thingy  and playing DVD movies through this machine makes  watching DVDs  interesting again.   Reminds me of the   time I watched  my first DVD movie played on my then brand new PS2. The video   quality totally blew me (as compared to my then reliable VHS player).

Definitely a "bang for the buck" DVD player as the thread starter has put it.

dont expect too much from upscalers, it will definitely improve the pq and all, but only up to a certain degree ...
maybe its just not meeting your expectations.  :)

The thing about the Xtreme is that you can upscale via the component video cables, unlike most branded DVD players, whihc can only upscale via the HDMI, inasmuch that if your panel is a lCD, you can maximize the picture to 1080i.

Only one branded DVD player came out with a component upscaler and it caused a furor in the USA,that such luck some members here at PinoyDVD were able to import some units and sold them at price much higher than the Xtreme. ;)........pero siyempre naman...branded eh' kaya lang walang warranty iyun'....Grey market kasi'..... ito' ay may warranty, tapos presyong VCD player pa.  ;) :D

+1 for the component upscaling, atleast if you have those old 1080i capable crt or rear projection tvs, its a way to have upscaled video.  ;D

meron akong nabasa sa sources thread na ang generic players daw  use old technology:

    Quote from taurus_cute:
"Ninety nine percent of generic DVD players uses 8-bit VDACS, 8-bit is the first video driver for the      first generation DVDs. Hence, using 8-bit is like using a DAC that was first used way back in 1997. Thats truly retrogressive because this 11-year old device has already been abandoned a long time ago by branded names. This explains why generics are often paltry cheap, sometimes selling for as low as P1,950 from your neighborhood Muslim vendor stall or from Makro. ..."

"At the moment the de rigeur VDACS is 12-bits - and its a standard thats certifiably ample to extract DVD's video information. Thats the most common embed now for branded names."

yung xtreme ba uses 12-bitVDAC na?

sir, from what site did you get this review? It seems he/she is 99% sure of what he/she is saying, or maybe she works with one of the generic companies being mentioned here, a proof will definitely be appreciated and will help a lot of members in their future purchases.

oh, well, if sir alfie says it performs better than his pioneer upscaler, that's good enough for me!
