Markings seem to indicate DTS decoding capability out of the box along with networking.

Have any of you guys considered getting a different media player because of the DTS issue or other issues of the WD player?

I got WD and Kaiboer K100.  Kaiboer got the DTS downmix which I bring along when I travel.  I still wish WD will have bec unit is much smaller.

I'm a bit confused here 'coz it seems WD finally elected to provide DTS & networking capabilities - but in a whole new different purchase?  :o
I do understand the networking capabilities as a hardware port, but they could've given the DTS thru a firmware upgrade for gen1 users, correct?

I'm hoping that they would have a substantial update for gen1 users when they release the new WDTV2 and just dont leave most of us scratching our heads ???

Well, I do certainly appreciate their support in providing me with a free remote replacement, so I'm hoping they would still be supportive of us gen1 users.

There seems to be some talk about it in various forums & even pics have surfaced. They also based their opinion on this:

http://www.homecinemachoice.com/blogs/team+hcc/western+digital+confirms+wdtv+version+2+adds+ethernet+sneakernet+hit+08+05+09

I'm sure there would be more discussions in various forums about it till this thing gets launched out in the public.

This sure answered my "what ifs" post awhile ago, doesnt it?  :D ;D

^ haha oo nga eh..i found some small talk on avs forum though..pero nothing surfaced from the other forums i visit

although i don't need the network function because I don't have one sa bahay..and me avr naman to do the dts decoding..so I don't see myself upgrading unless if it has something more to offer

sana tuloy pa din support sa gen1

give it up, would have been better if you'd just shut your mouth in the first place since you were the one who apparently wanted to ripoff Western Digital. maybe if you stop responding altogether, maybe then i'll leave you alone. sorry but i just hate hypocrites. and if you haven't noticed, i'm trying my hardest to contribute to this forum, maybe you should do the same. a simple "my bad" or "my mistake" would have been enough, but no hehe. oh well....

to all, sorry for the OT

Sure, but the problem would be the DTS licensing costs.

That's logical.  If DTS decoding will be included in a new model, you can be sure that the DTS licensing costs will be included in the new model's price.

Wasnt the eGreat marketed without DTS as well? Do they have it now via firmware upgrade? Sorry to ask, but I'm not familiar with the brand kasi.

So, the eGreat has the M34 while the WD has the WDTV2 - in very similar packages, right? Would be very eager to see how this would be launched ;)

@andre,

so wala pa rin output ang analog audio kapag dts ang embedded sound ng Avi?

I'm not familiar with eGgreat either but yes, I think I've come across forum posts about a DTS downconversion via firmware update on eGReat.  If so, then eGreat shouldered the expenses of DTS licensing.

WD can easily do the same if it wanted to.  Apparently, the only thing holding WD back is that it does not seem willing to shoulder the DTS licensing costs.

Question:

Earlier in Festival Mall, I saw the Samsung HTSB1 Powered Soundbar which sports a DTS logo - if I buy this & connect it to my 32" LCD in the bedroom, can I use the WDTV media player with it?

I could also use it for my Samsung computer monitor ;D

normally the FW is under the settings..you can check it there..

on how to update..for me I usually put the downloaded FW to a usb drive and plug it into the wdtv..it detects the new FW and installs it..anyway there are instructions posted in the site of WD on how to update it

I personally haven't seen of a 2/2.1 DTS capable sound system. I've seen Logitech 5.1 speaker sets (Z-5500/Z-5400) that has DTS capability but they are pricey. Might as well go the HTIB route.

thanks for the quick reply uvax. i guess the samsung HT-Z210 would be the most affordable solution?

sorry if this has been posted already here..pwede po bang paki post ung link ng recent FW update ng WD Tv..

salamat po..:)

Just an update on my queries..i tried watching again the movie that i have said that was stuttering and im happy that it didn't stutter at all..:) now im confused why is it sometimes it happens and sometimes not.

btw , im only using a 320gb wd passport..

As an observation that i did..when it was stuttering my hardisk was placed in a leather casing..and lastnight before watching again the same movie, i removed it in its casing and it didn't stutter.

Does this type of portable hardisk still needs air ventilation?
