Barrister PS3 will be my next project, ipon muna ulit ;D I can still hold off my itch for a few more months since dvds especially the original ones or dvd 9's are really so clear on this plasma and sort of hi def na. Actually am really so amazed with the clarity that I find myself enjoying the picture more than the ae900 projector i have in my main home theater. Dami kasi details that can be seen. Para talagang hi def guys, ano pa kaya pag blu ray :o
Pekspert nice nick ;D Sori but dont have an xbox 360. What i have is a wii and ok naman. If games are your priority I suggest bringing the xbox to theaterworks at trinoma and try it for yourself.
Pag meron na, please tell us about the difference between Standard DVD and Blu ray from a 3-meter viewing distance. I'm sure Blu ray would be better even at that distance, but I don't think it would be that much better.
That's good advice. You have to see it yourself. The youtube video is not an accurate representation because it's very likely that the camera used was introducing its own artifacts in the recording.
Sir, malayo po ang blu-ray sa standard dvd. I have Tears of the Sun in R1 & Blu-ray you can see a big diff between the 2 kahit sa 5-6mtrs. Sa R1 less detail makita mo in terms of detail, depth and color, but when you play blu-ray.. naku po, you'll see all the details and the defects of the film, naka lipstick pa nga si bruce kahit nasa gera na! ;D
Feel free to drop by my office and test all the bluray films vs the R1's I have. Halata sa pana lalo na dun sa 65" ;)
sir Dtug,
what Wii games have you tried on it?
OT, what a fun game console, eh?! 8)
sir Nemesis,
since you use a PS3 for BD viewing via HDMI 1.3, have you tried this TV for gaming? any of the limitations mentioned above?
thx!
Hi guys,
I've decided to get the Panny XXPV70H but Im still undecided whether to get the 37" or 42".
I'm gonna put it beside my bed and the Yammy TSS-15 HTB speakers around it. Will I see a
huge difference in the PQ between a blue ray and a R1 DVD using just the 37"?
Thanks!
nemesis and aiebo - naku kaya nga ba lalu akong natutukso e. how much kaya and ps3 sa hk? ;D
barrister - as soon as magkaroon ako for sure ill post my comments here
batutoy - you wont be sorry with either but for a bedroom setup baka a 37" will suffice. aside from viewing distance
consider also that the 42" consumes more electricity. Mas makakatipid ka pa since with a smaller screen
you can hold off your purchase of blue ray till prices come down since the picture quality of even regular dvd's
are really excellent. But if your viewing distance will be around 10ft, go with the 42"
staind01 - I have a wii and maganda and PQ. As a monitor sori but havnt tried, takot ako sa burn in e. Panigurado lang ;D
2-tuner PIP ba ang 42pv70?
also, just to be sure, meron syang coaxial cable input (RF), right? di kasi kami naka-Cable box e.
can't find specs for this tv in the net e. i'll search again.
staind - yup its the one on the bottom. Also meron coax for cable but no PIP. This is reserved for
the 42pv700h which is more expensive. On the wii i play mostly with sports and wario ware.
kaka addict talaga ;D ung boxing good enough for exercise kc papawisan ka talaga :D
panny calls the pv700 as SDHC Plasma TV while the pv70 as HD Plasma TV. anyone knows the differences?
Barrister - would it be ok to play counter srtrike with this unit? I know surfing should be avoided but are pc games ok?
thanks guys! very useful info! 8)
laki pala ng price diff. :( it'd be nifty to have 2-tuner PIP pa naman pero not worth P25K IMO even with SDHC.
di lang 25k sir more... kasi 85k lang yung 42pv70 & the pv700 is 125k. ;)
Grabe nga ito unit na itong model na 42pv70, 90% of my sale was this tv and the 50pv70! Natulog na mga LCD ko! I think i have to use like what the chain stores is using... HD generators lang for the lcd's...... hehehe ;D
Thanks Barrister, better cguro to avoid games muna just to be sure.
Staind01 - you wont be sorry :D
Nemesis - My friend Romer bought a 42pv70h from you last tuesday. Buti na lang he consulted me since he
was dead set to buy an lcd. When i told him about you and the price u quoted he went straight
to your shop from rockwell. Another friend of mine is about to buy a flat panel and will also
convince him to buy the same. Hehe dapat may price na ko ;D Btw you should tell the guys here
the brand of the mp3 player you are giving away for free. Kala ko ung mga china made lang ;D
Nemesis - kahit fuschia pa papatulan ko...... ;D Next week siguro we can drop by :)
Sir Dtug, Thanks sa refferals mo. I've talk to Romer personally, he's a funny guy. ;D
the mp3 na kasama is an Ipod....hehehe ;) Sige convince him, meron ka din ipod. Pink lang nga..hehehe ;D
i'm just noticing some greeny and violet shades during fast action scenes, especially black over whity background fast scenes. Although its only me noticing it. Oh no I'm seeing colors.... Any body noticing it as well?
Sir Nemesis, bakit yung sa akin hindi Ipod? China made sya at wala pang FM? Baka naman pwede palitan, its still in the box, my daughter won't use it, swap naman please... ;D, will go there and get an HDMI 1.3 version if available.
I'm really enjoying my Pana 42PV70H matched with Pioneer DVD 400 1080p upscaler. i'm just noticing some greeny and violet shades during fast action scenes, especially black over whity background fast scenes. Although its only me noticing it. Oh no I'm seeing colors.... Any body noticing it as well?
Thanks, 09209609550
Sir Nemesis91, available pa po ba yung 37PV70?
Pa pm naman po nung price.
Tsaka pwede ba syang zero interest sa HSBC Visa Card??? hehehe...
Thanks,
Doy Garcia
Thanks po. Pa pm na rin price ng 42pv.
@Nemesis91
Sir pa PM din po ang price ng 42PV70. Thanks po
burn in is the only issue (and a major one at that) that's holding me back in buying a plasma. we watch SDTV with black bars on the sides coz i can't stand them stretched, squatted pictures! i fear the burn in of them black bars... and also of the channel logos, etc.
also use our HDTV for gaming and as a monitor. no burn-in issues with LCD so so far, so good.
really want the plasma PQ though so i'm in a dilemma.
from the plasma thread...hehehe.. to be honest walang burn in ang plasma now a days, that was 4th or 5th generation your talking about, way way back pa yung issue na yan bro 2003 pa yan mga samsung, fujitsu, sony etc ang karamihan 10th gen na ngayon and people are stuck w/the idea of the past;D. Dont listen to all the b*****t of all the appliance center are talking about, well i dont blame them they've been taught to do so. ;) I'm also a hardcore gamer xbox, ps3, wii mern ako... lahat yan sa plasma ko ginagamit. To see is to believe sir, i let it for 30mns sa 65" ko walang ng yari. That is why this companies tried improving their system w/ a whitewash function ;D
sir, pa-pm din po ng price ng 42pv70hpm na sir. ;)
thanks!
1080p na po ba toh sirs?
Yup. It works with my pioneer 400 1080p DVD upscaler, na hindi gumana yung pioneer plasma 427xhg na sabi 1080p daw.
vtec3, so with its internal upscaler, does it mean that i can go without using a dvd upscaling player? or better parin ang dvd player na upscaling? is this unit full 1080p na? tnx
New owner here and just got it last Sunday. Really couldn't decide on what to buy and had a Toshiba LCD, Hitachi Plasma and the Panasonic play a movie side by side. After more than an hour comparing the picture quality of the 3 units, I was convinced the Panasonic was it. Did not hurt that I only got it for 79K ;D. I really could't wait and opted not to have it delivered and just loaded it to my SUV.
Now I really couldn't decide what High Def DVD player to get. Blu Ray or HD-DVD?
some of the features of this model:
* Inputting and outputting 1080p video signals without altering their natural specifications.
* Up-converts SD video signals to 1080p signals. Delivers pictures as beautiful as those from HD video signals.
* The equivalent of 3,072 steps of gradation express finely nuanced images.
* Increased luminous efficiency achieves maximum contrast of 10,000:1.
note sure about upscaling without using an upscaling dvd player. reasonable din naman yung price now ng mga upscaling player, if you are getting one I suggest you consider Pioneer 600 upscales upto 1080p ;)
by the way I am selling na my MS speakers. not decided yet kung ano ang ipapalit ko ;D kumusta na yung MS mo ;D
wow you got the Pana 42" for 79k a very good deal indeed ;)
the reviews in the US says that BR is outselling HD 2:1. if you have a relative in the US ask them to buy a PS3 may free 5 BR titles (although limited na ;))
hi, at what frame rate does the pio 400 play a 1080p? i understand the pio427 only accepts 1080/24 signal. is this the same unit as yours

hi bro congrats on your purchase! thats really a good price! where did u get yours? do u happen to know how much their pana 50pv70? tnx!
Thans kt. I bought it sa Ambassador in Shang. The 50" I think costs 40K-50K more cant remember the price. Sa Listening in Style sa Shang also sells it 89K 12 mos. 0% pag cash 82K. I was supposed to buy there, but kasi thats were I compared the Panasonic vs Hitachi and Toshiba pero when I was about to withdraw, doon nakita ko mas mura sa Ambassador.
Was contemplating on the 50" unit cause tempting yung price, but it was really too big and the savings I got will be used to purchase a high def dvd player.

wow, good price! I just called Ambassador-Shang to confirm and they give that price even over the phone (i mean without the benefit of haggling). card price at 12 months 0% is about 90K.
hi bro! yup the specs are really great thats why im really considering on upgrading my 46 dlp to this 50pv70! really great unit i must say n i cant wait to finally decide if im gng to get it na! hehe
yup im also planning to get the pioneer 600.
not satisfied with your MS na? im still ok with mine....hehe what speakers are u gna change to? SARS! hehe ;D
Thanks. I'm planning to go there this September and buy from there. Ok naman ba to use a PS3? Or is it much better to buy a dedicated Blu-Ray payer? Any difference in performance.
ako din sold my 43" inch and upgraded to a Plasma ;D not decided pa what speakers and amp to get. masyado ang SARS infection this year ;D
bro! haha lakas talaga ng SARS! ayun i just got the pioneer 600av last nyt! hehe....hmm kelan na kaya ang 50pv70 ko...haha di na ko makakatulog nito! ;D
sa Theaterworks dati may buy one take one yang 50pv70 (take 1 32" flat panel tv) ;)
@ Nemesis91 ,
sir may ganito paba na promo pa pm naman ng price?
tia
doughn
better ba to use an avr or a surge protector?
if i were you i will use both to protect you precious equipments lalo na yung Flat Screen (in this case Pana 42pv70h para di ot) ;)
just got my 50pv70 this morning. pano po ba proper break in nito? and wat are your video settings sa SD Cable, composite and hdmi para may reference lang din tayong users? hehe tnx!
just got my 50pv70 this morning.

congrats kt on your purchase!!! from the other threads here at Pdvd others suggest that mga 100 hrs break in time, others naman did 150 hours. I bought mine (although diff brand) last June pa and i have not finished the break in ;) ;) mostly during weekend lang kasi ko nagagamit ;D some says naman na no need to break in kasi these plasmas are based on new technology so wala ng masyado burn in problems. Yung Pio 600 zoom mode so i use my Samsung HD841 most of the time. hope this helps ;)
Congrats, sir kt!
I recommend tuning into a TV station and zooming in at maximum to crop the station logo from the picture, then leaving the TV on 10 hours a day for 10 days.
I hope my old post helps: http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=63765.msg667986#msg667986 (http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=63765.msg667986#msg667986)
so u also turn down all the settings as low as possible? tnx!
how do u know if the unit is properly broken in?
do u guys also use the power saving mode?
congrats rafmac on your new flat panel! there are channels clearer than others in my experience, most likely depends on the signal coming from the cable company ;)
just installed my unit and paired it with a pioneer dvd w/hdmi. I upscaled the image to 720p and picture quality is good. I had to put the picture mode in cinema since the dynamic mode seems to be too red for my taste.
as expected, the picture quality when warching cable is grainy.
i need to spend more time with the tv in order to give a better and more accurate review.
Yes, I'm always on power saver mode. Turning on the power saver mode does not degrade picture quality.
after watching regular dvd's next project would be to get a high def player and will probably get it next month. gastos talaga hehehehe
by the way, i experienced a problem, I hooked up my pinoeer dvd to the panny using a hdmi cord, when I did not turn on my HT, there was no sound coming out of the tv. How to remedy?
naku gastos talaga yan ;D when you say high def player are you getting the Toshiba HD Player or just an upconverting 1080p player. If ever 1080p upconverting I suggest you audition the Pio 600. Si kt kabibili din lang niyan ;)
Not sure how to remedy, what I know kasi is if you connect your HDMI dvd player to your Pana there will still be sound, so you have to lower the volume of the Pana. I am sure yung mga gurus dito sa forum will be able to help you with your concern ;)
rafmac sinabi mo pa! haha dami talaga gastos sunod sunod yan. ako ps3 tlaga gsto ko gamer kasi ako plus bonus narin sya as Bluray player! mahal pa nga lang now...hehe
oh speaking about cabinets/tv racks...wat can u guys recomend for the pv70? tnx!
kt, just looking at my checkbook made me realize how much i spent already. bilis ng pera... well worth it naman
for me medyo affordable na, i have a series of trips abroad during the ber months and I plan to buy either blu-ray or hd-dvd during one of my trips. sa US kasi less than $300 na ang HD-DVD and sa $450 for Blu-Ray. Any idea if it is also cheaper in Singapore?
Enjoy mo mabuti yung 50" Pana mo before you think of changing again ;)
tried it on 1080p:
medyo maliwanag pala yung last 2 pix...forgot to close the lights! hehe ;D

tama ba understanding ko sa FAQ's. I should zoom the screen and make sure that the picture occupies the whole screen?
HI sir, what the better deal?
42pv70 for 78k?
or
42pv70, pedestal. and sc pt-150 home theatre (10k), all for 85k
yup dapat occupied buong screen. what I do is i use the screen fit function nung DVD player ko and not the zoom mode ng Plasma ;)

42pv70, pedestal. and sc pt-150 home theatre (10k), all for 85k
Eto nanaman, bumaba nanaman 50pv70 new batch new promo pana phil warranty. ;)
how much na 50pv70?? ano promo??
Magkano na kaya ang 42pv70? o kahit yung 40''? Meron bang ganun Panasonic? Papm naman anybody! Bibili na kasi ako ng hd tv next week and kung maliit lang price diff ng 40''+ sa 37''- de yun nalang bibilhin ko. ;D
is the sc pt-150 an HTIB? If yes, i suggest you get na lang 78k and save the balance until puwede ka na buy ng HT system (again suggestion lang po) ;)
when I started canvassing for a Plasma early this year, you might not believe but all 42" were above 100k. if only I can turn back the clock ;D
sana bumaba pa price sa atin. nakita ko ngayon dito sa bangkok central mall, 42pv70 equivalent to 65k pesos with free htib yung tall slim spkrs. made in singapore sya. yung binebenta sa atin saan made?
Here are comparisons of different resolutions using a Panasonic 42PV70 PLasma TV:

I'm no expert, but since the source is still a standard DVD, there is really minimal difference between the when upscaled to 720P and 1080i. You really have to look closely to notice the difference. I bet this would be a different story once we use either a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD's and the player
Yun Simpson the Movie may lumabas na sa DVD???
Singapore din sir! tax paid kasi yung Pana phil dito kaya more expensive. Yung 42pv700 made in japan. :)
may review ba ito sa cnet?
maagkalapit kc specs niya sa 42px70, 7 out of 10.
hi all!
pa post naman ng settings nyo during break-in period. not too familiar yet with the menu of the 42pv70.
doess this have an anti-burn in feature? the manual isn't too helpful. no mention of burn-in period also.
pv70 owners post naman kayo ng pix ng setups nyo.
start ko na share ko yung sakin. hehe
(http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/478/img2273jk4.jpg)
haha wala pa bro! bumagay naman yung old stand ko i changed the color to blak eh! hehe tipid mode na muna
;D yup bagay naman ;) napansin ko din yung Bada line conditioner mo ;)
Mga sir, tanong ko lang po sa mga pio dv600 owners kung anong gamit nyo, 720p 1080i or 1080p on your pv70
tenks

ang isa ko palang feedback dito, ang init! hehe. feeling ko, room temperature goes up by a few degrees when it is open. ;D
the best thing? it rekindled my love for movies. i used to buy dvds and not watch them. after months, the dvd would still be wrapped and i have to force myself to watch just to make sure that the dvd is fine. right now, i try to watch a movie every night (or half of it). its like watching a movie in a moviehouse! what a beauty to watch!
What is the native resolution of this beast when hooked up on a PC using a DVI -VGA cable?
And reading some reviews, this is 1080p ready (not full hd) right? So, my PS3 can upsalce this upto 1080p when playing games or it will still be downscaled on 720p/1080i just like other hdtvs which are only upto 1080i.
Thanks
Fait
I have a question, really could not understand what the Viera Link is for.
sir, when your using pana equipment such as videocam, dvd, digicam via hdmi you can control the tv using your players remote or your tv's remote to control all that is link w/the hdmi.
vice versa lang sir.
I've decided its time to jump to the plasma/lcd bandwagon so I've started reading up. Q lang to you guys who have this unit, did the 340 watts bump up your Meralco bill significantly? Seems a lot for a TV. I suppose like size LCD TV's consume less power?
bump. for all those who've had their viera's longer than me. feedback?
also, after using the tv, do you turn off (instead of leaving on standby), turn off the AVR or line conditioner and remove the plug?
Opkors!
Sa totoo lang, hindi na nga kailangan ang break-in sa unit mo sir --- sigurista lang tayo --- just in case. ;)
;D On my unit, 100 hrs break-in using freeTV channel 7 or 2, max zoom to crop out logos, 10 hrs per day for 10 days.
After break-in, normal DVD viewing na. After 8 months of regular use, no burn in or IR whatsoever from black bars or station logos or anything else. I sometimes check with an all-white screen using the free plasma break-in DVD downloaded from:
http://www.eaprogramming.com/downloads/download_main.htm (http://www.eaprogramming.com/downloads/download_main.htm)
From the author:
It is basically a set of 20 images that are 720p native resolution. The images are full screen colors so that the entire screen is 1 color at a time. The colors go from a white to a dark grey in 5 gradients, white to blue in 5 gradients, white to green in 5 gradients and white to red in five gradients.

Thanks guys for the replies. I was contemplating on replacing my 37" LCD w/ a plasma. But during these times that we are minimizing our electric consumption, I think it wouldn't be practical on my circumstances (coz i usually watch without A/C & just a fan for air circulation). I'll just stick with my LCD then.
@rx330:
Yes please, it will be highly appreciated. :o)
anybody know if the HDMI for the 42pv70 is 1.3? or earlier version?
Hi ma'am, 1.3 version na siya and panasonic hdmi cable 1.3version is now available at Trinoma TheaterWorks! ;D
sir how much na po n wat available lengths kahit under 3m? tnx
bro KT I smell another upgrade ;D
Hi ma'am, 1.3 version na siya and panasonic hdmi cable 1.3version is now available at Trinoma TheaterWorks! ;D
yey, 1.3 na! at may hdmi cable na! kaso, wala pa akong iko-connect sa kabilang dulo. ;D tagal ng A3! saka ng xmas bonus!
yesterday tried the pv70 with my notebook, connect thru VGA@rx330:
was set @ 1024 X 768 (my notebook settings) everything is fine thru the plasma, then i adjust it to the highest settings, but no different from the previous one
everything is ok to me, the wordings are readable, 16:9 was ok, tested a few SD cartoons and movie, output was great though
now i makes me itchy to get a pc for the plasma...... :'(
Just bought this plasma from Sir Jeff's Theaterworks Trinoma store @ a very good price. Discounts were also given for my other purchases, thank you so much sir!! ;D
Excited na ko for monday's delivery...wohoooo!!! ;D

Thanks Paul! I really cant wait to use this Plasma for Blu-ray movies & PS3 games
i tried the cinema but its a bit too dark for me. im now on dynamic mode but all setting are less than half due to break in period. ...
hi barrister musta! yup my setting are still less than half. i have already used the unit for around 100hrs. just trying to configure to its optimal setting...hehe pero takot parin manood with bars! haha
bro ang bilis mo na tapos ang break-in period ;D ako I am trying to go to 150 hours with my Plasma before I finally watch 2:35 na movies ;D
oh bat di mo pa kabit sa yamaha mo for the mean time? naku anong amp na ba balak mo di na yung bada?
mine is made in japan. may difference po ba yung kung san made?
they got new factory in malaysia? ??? any idea which part?
Yup. ;) most of the 50pv70 and all 42-50pv700 is made in japan, they are a little bit heavier compared to china units. But most important it's still panasonic plasma, not a Copied unit from china. hehehe ;D
congrats kt on your purchase!!! from the other threads here at Pdvd others suggest that mga 100 hrs break in time, others naman did 150 hours. mine is made in japan. may difference po ba yung kung san made?
How's the PQ of the 42PV70 when watching cable channels?
bro ganda ba picture at 1080p upscaling sa pioneer 600?
how do you compare sa 720p only.
lahat ng settings nasa 50 pag break in?
thanks bro
How's the PQ of the 42PV70 when watching cable channels?
is there any HD cable channels in philipines?
my country cable suck as well, outputting in VCD quality :(

how do you compare sa 720p only.
lahat ng settings nasa 50 pag break in?
thanks bro
bro musta! di masyado noticeable yung difference as posted by rafmac or maybe depends sa source mo din. the blacks n colors are what i noticed lang.
for break in they say just put it below haf eh
check the previous pages and you will see screen shot comparisons between 720 and 1080 resolution. since the source is standar def, you will hardly notice any difference between the 2. in my case using an upscaling dvd, i just use 720p.

Hi guys! newbie ako dito but I've been eyeing this tv for quite some time now...
sir Nemesis pwede pa PM ng price nyo for 42PV700 and 42PV70. Malapit lang ako sa Trinoma.. kung magka oras ako baka dumaan ako dyan one of these days. :)
Nemesis,,, kindly PM me also. very interested in buying - 40 to 42" LCD/PLASMA. TIA.
why doesnt this model have PIP?
i notice some serious image retention, even the AV inputs are IR-ed
What I know is that the 42pv700 model has the PIP feature.
What happened to your plasma?
btw, guys, wats the purpose of break in 100-200hours? no more burn in/image retention?
as yesterday i was playing heavenly sword for quite a while, maybe 40-80 minutes, later i actually notice there is burn in, i could see nariko's health bar if i stand in front of the tv, its not very very obvious, but definitely its there
will it go off by itself?
^ same thing happened to me when i watched Kung Fu Hustle. I was forced to watch it with the black bars otherwise I wouldn't be able to understand the movie without the subtitles.
When I finished the movie, the color of the black bar on top was darker than the center portion of the screen where the movie was shown. Also, the portion of the black bar at the bottom where the subtitles were shown was considerably lighter than the other parts. When I switched to tv programming (full screen), the burn-in disappeared after a while.
scared the crap out of me. haven't watched with the black bars since. at least until i finish the 100 bars burn in. ;D
Sir meron bang 42PY70 na model?
hi sir, wala pa for now. Ang meron is 42, 50, & 65PY700
Is the 42PY700 a 1080p panel and is it in stock already? How much?
yahoo. pag dating sana bumaba price ng mga PV700
I got mine already!
got it sa listening megamall.
Like what they said sulit tong plasma na to. Sarap manood ng dvd's!
Anyway question lang regarding this unit...
I've read na ang hdtv eh 1280x720 ang resolution pero ito eh 1024x768, someaning hindi ito hdtv?
bali EDTV ba ito? And is this HD ready?
thanks!

tonedeaf, the minimum HDTV standard is 720p or 1280 x 720 = 921,600 pixels to be exact. Thus, your HDTV set with its native resolution of 1024 x 768 = 786,432 pixels is short of the minimum HDTV standard. Tho it's not true 720p but it still looks good as the resolution is 2.5 times as compared to a standard 640 x 480 TV.
Any LCD or Plasma that has 720p is also HD sir. ;)
available naman na yung 42py700 eh true hd na 1920 x1080p na. bili ulit yung mga gustong mag upgrade..hehehe ;D
meron na din 65py700 kaso grabe mahal! ;)
sir in your honest and unbiased opinion (sign off muna pagiging owner ng store nyo ;D ) is there a big difference in the pq of a hd ready (1024x768) and a full hd panel (1920x1080) using sd-dvd source? if using hd-dvd source naman, is it really night and day difference between the two panel? para bang vcd<dvd difference ng pq nila?
Hi! I have this model also, and had that exact question a few days back. Long story short, hindi sya HD, or should I say not-quite-HD.
So far, the most satisfactory explanation I've had is the response of pchin below.tonedeaf, the minimum HDTV standard is 720p or 1280 x 720 = 921,600 pixels to be exact. hi all!
i was just looking at Cnet.com HD world special report. the report discussed, among others, HDTV display resolution as follows:
1920x1080, commonly called 1080p = HD
1366X768, 768P = HD
1280x720, 720p = HD
1024x768, commonly called HDTV plasma = not HD
852x480, EDTV plasma = not HD
640x480, VGA = not HD
http://asia.cnet.com/hd_world/0,39063941,61968972-4,00.htm
I heard th same. Below 8 ft. you need 46-47" to see the difference.

So far, the most satisfactory explanation I've had is the response of pchin below.
for additional discussion, may I refer you to this thread:
http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=63765.280
Is 1024 x 768p HD or not? In my opinion, 1024 x 768p is HD.
Wikipedia defines HDTV as "a digital television broadcasting system with a significantly higher resolution than traditional formats (NTSC, SECAM, PAL)". This is the generally accepted definition of the term "HD".
Based on this definition, since 1024 x 768 is a significantly higher resolution than standard definition, then 1024 x 768 can correctly be considered high definition.
I disagree with the notion that the minimum HD resolution is supposedly 1280 x 720p. I have searched all over the net, but I have failed to find any authoritative pronouncement to this effect.
I suspect that this impression was based on the fact that the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) supports only 3 HD variants: 1280 x 720p; 1920 x 1080i; and 1920 x 1080p. This has led to the conclusion that 1280 x 720p is the absolute minimum resolution for HD.
But note that the above resolutions refer specifically to the ATSC HD standards. They do not refer to the general definition of the term "HD".
Therefore, it would be correct to say that 1280 x 720 is the minimum HD resolution under the ATSC standard, simply because the ATSC does not support 1024 x 768. However, it would not be correct to say that any resolution below 1280 x 720 is not HD. Moreover, the ATSC itself has never declared that any resolution below 1280 x 720 cannot be considered "HD", as far as I know.
I checked your asia.cnet link. I don't find it very convincing because it says 1024 x 768 does not meet the definition of high def, yet it does not cite its basis for saying so.
The article seems to have been sourced from this article: http://www.cnet.com/4520-7874_1-5137915-1.html (http://www.cnet.com/4520-7874_1-5137915-1.html), by cnet editor David Katzmaier.
According to the linked Katzmaier article on its "HDTV display resolution" table (not the "HDTV source resolutions" table), a 1024 x 768 resolution, commonly called HDTV plasma (37 and 42 inch), meets the definition of "high def".
Katzmaier provides the basis for this statement on footnote 3 of his article: http://www.ce.org/shared_files/resources/95DTV%20Definitions.pdf (http://www.ce.org/shared_files/resources/95DTV%20Definitions.pdf). In the cited document, the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) stated:
"The Board defined minimum attribute resolution requirements that, until now, had not existed for High Definition televisions and monitors. Specifically, HDTV displays must have active top-to-bottom scan lines of 720 progressive, 1080 interlaced, or higher."
Note that the CEA criterion is scan lines, not pixel count. Therefore, a 1024 x 768 panel definitely qualifies as an HDTV under the CEA definition.
sir baka puede pa pm din ako? or pa post na lang sa appropriate na thread if this is OT na, thanks.
i think you meant "above 8ft".....which is true, the farther you are from the tv, you bigger screen you will need to notice the difference...
if you seat more than 10ft away, the edtv's (720p) IMO, will do just fine
To all 42pv70 (and other panasonic plasma) owners,
Please post your picture settings (brightness, contrast, color, sharpness). I finally finished my 100 hours of burn in! I'm fiddling around with the AVIA video calibration tests as well as the THX optimizer which came with Finding Nemo. I just want to check if I understood the instructions correctly.
Was At Trinoma Theater Works a while ago... Dami bumibili 42pv70 since few days ago, paubos na ata kanina. Did not notice the 42pv700, what's the difference and the price? BTW, may dating pa ba 42pv 70? Thanks
Bought the 42PV70 from TheaterWorks this afternoon. This is my first widescreen TV. I watched Transformers with this TV and the screen shows black bars on top and bottom of the picture. I have set the TV and the DVD player to 16:9. The box of the Transformers indicate that it is 16:9, so why are there black bars? Is there anymore settings that I should adjust?
Nemesis,
Can you PM me the price for the 42PV70.
finally naka decide na ko to get PV70. . Thank to the staff of theatherworks trinoma and nemesis for great service and great deals ;) ;) ;) ;)
My DVD player now outputs only at 480p. If I'll use a 720p player via HDMI with ordinary DVDs, will the PQ improve? And will the improvement in PQ be noticeable?
Di ba the 42PV70 have an internal upscaler/downscaler? Hindi ba magkaka-conflict sa mga upscaling DVD players?
wla ba pedeng gawin to improve the pic quality of cable viewing?
tia
??? kala ko selling point ng PV70 is its excellent tuner for cable viewing? ???
how many tvs are connected to your cable? if you have more than one connected (dont forget your smart neighbors ;D) try a cable signal booster to improve your pq.
Yes a lot better than lcd bro! ;) have you seen lcd on cable viewing (40-47")? ;D lots of pixels
Marami ngang naka connect na TVs sa cable but I'm already using a cable booster.
Btw, is there a cable booster made by well known companies? Baka mas maganda ang output nito. All of the cable boosters that are being sold are made by unknown companies kasi.
check mo sa electronics boutique, they have several brands there, choose the one with the highest rating kahit konti lang connected compared to its specified capacity
unfortunately, i haven't had a chance to see a 40" and higher LCD nor a plasma for standard cable viewing yet. i wish there's a store that would allow us to do this.
was just surprised by boybi's post re: the PV70's graininess in cable viewing.
OT:
have a sony bravia 32V200 and its cable viewing is excellent so no complains here. :)
i've held off on buying a plasma due to the potential burn in problem. tapos me break in period pa. it doesn't suit my need for now. that said, might buy another LCD for Xmas. :)
Nemesis, merong ba kayong bentang good quality cable boosters? Sa akin medyo grainy yung reception, pero dun sa isang kasama kong bumili din ng 42pv70, hindi naman ganun ka grainy. Marami lang sigurong TV dito sa bahay.
Sir get Radio Shack. magandang booster ito, before sa cubao there's a store that sell this pag wala na kung may kilala ka sa states this is your solution.
mga sir after break in ano na po yun picture setting ng pv70 niyo?
TO: Toy01, kt, kobebryant:
sent you pm regarding settings for PV7/70 series.
Jeff thanks for my uncle's unit ;) Saw it in action this afternoon and its really worth the price. Looks good even on cable programming
Finally saw a 42PY700 side by side with a 42PV700. On the material they were playing it was hard to tell the difference resolution-wise. The only obvious difference was the PV was brighter. It could be just the settings but the same was true with the 50PY700. The sales guy says this is because the PY has an anti-glare coating. Hmm I wonder ::). Also saw the Pioneer Kuros in action. Nice and not so expensive either.
TO: Toy01, kt, kobebryant:
sent you pm regarding settings for PV7/70 series.
sir vic! tnx for the info! ;D
The PY700 and the PV700 has the same anti glare function. and diff lang nila is 1920 x 1080p yung isa. ;)
a liitle bit on the detail side yung PY700.
Thanks to Sights and Sounds' Boss Vic and Paul for the sale, and Elly for the installation. I esp. like that Sights and Sounds has a 3 year after sales assistance program. I certainly would recommend buying from Sights and Sounds! Here's to many years of watching great movies with my Pana!
I tried to use the 42PV70 as a PC monitor for my laptop to play some downloaded movies. I set it at its native resolution of 1024x768. But when I played the movie using Windows Media Player, the movie is stretched horizontally even though the movie is in widescreen already. I tried to change the resolution, but to no avail. Is there anything that can be done with this?
what dvd player is good with this plasma? I want to play my orig region 1 collection before, but want it through HDMI. Lots of complaints ba with Pioneer 600 ?
Hi to all Plasma owners,
I read that older generation Plasma suffer from glare problems. Is it still true for newer generation? Please advice. Thanks.
I found the solution to play movies in 42PV70 using the laptop with real 16:9 (not stretched). I installed K-lite's Media Player Classic. There's an option in the player to force the movie to fit in a 16:9 TV.

Hello Nemesis. What's the lowest price of PV70 now? Pls pm me. Thanks!hi sir, pm sent. ;D
mga boss, i am confused....kanina I went around the mall to check the Pana PV7 and PV70. Sabi sa akin, pareho lang daw yun except for the HDMI inputs (2 vs 1), input sa harap and color of the unit. The rest are just the same...
pareho lang ba talga? contrast ratio, etc etc.... konti lang kasi difference sa price. Pero kung cosmetics lang or just the number of inputs, ok na ako sa PV7....please help.
Thanks!
By the way, thanks to Nemesis and E-reply for the private message....appreciate the help... I am now leaning towards the 42 Pana plasma....have a nice day!

Wala pang 15 seconds may IR na? Impossible.
Are you sure it wasn't an optical illusion?
Try this:
Stare at the black dot at the center of the queen's negative portrait for about a minute, then look at the blank white square. You should see the same image but in positive.

xmas sale on 50pv70 105k lang sa cash 6 units na lang. :o :o :osale sale sale sale sale sale sale sale sale sale sale sale sale salego go go ;D

wow ang mura nalang sir ha! bat po ang bilis bumaba ng price ng unit na to? does it mean na baba resale value ng unit namin? ??? :-\
hahaha! nope.. it's not optical illusion.
i dunno.. i don't stare dun sa steady na image..and pag turn off ko, super light lang tlga ung IR... u won't even notice it kung nakabukas ang light and kung mejo malayo ka... pero total darkness napapansin ko..
ewan ko, mejo OC ako eh.. napapansin ko lahat. hahaha.
ako lang may gawa sir! ;) clearance sale ako meron na kasi akong 50pv700 and 50py700. inuubos lang yung old stocks. ;)
halos ganun narin po prices sa iba eh. is that a good or bad thing with owners of this unit?
sad to say, prices of electronics tends to depreciate fast because of the introduction of newer and better technology :(
sad to say, prices of electronics tends to depreciate fast because of the introduction of newer and better technology :(
Ganun talaga, parang pc na ang electronics less than 2 month iba nanama ang price. but if wait too long you wont be able to purchase your unit. ;)
Just enjoy whatever model you bought, thats the thing. Whatever you buy now, it'll drop in price sooner or later. That's the nature of any fast evolving consumer product. If you time your purchase right, you may minimize the depreciation hit but you can never eliminate it. Kaya ako naka abang ako dun sa price drop nung PY series or yung 428 Kuro, hehe. Sir Jeff, timbrehan mo ko ha?
Ganun talaga, parang pc na ang electronics less than 2 month iba nanama ang price. but if wait too long you wont be able to purchase your unit. ;)
I took the plunge last night!!! ;D ;D Bought the PV70 from The Home Theater SGT. Still in box, will unpack and set it up on Saturday, no office. :D
OT : Kaya mag analog set up na kayo.... sa music. hehehe. Parang tubes, mas luma mas mahal. NOS ! ;D
Im now thinking if I should put a small pc beside the pana 42pv70, to play all .mkv 2.5gig files. HD Generator kumbaga.... off bittorent. hehe.
wow, now thats investment. Balik tube amp na! hehehe...
;D
Sirs,
Is there a noticeable difference in the contrast levels of 42PV70 VS. 42PV7?
The first is 10,000:1, while the latter is 8,000:1 right?
Halata ba sa PQ?
do not display a still image for a long time like: channel id and other logos
am having problems with my viewing. cable channels like jacktv, discovery, hbo etc have their station id stationary for the duration of their movies/features.
ano yun mag IR din ba yun? di ako tuloy maka watch ng matagal, nililipat ko agad sa ibang channel na walang stationary image/s. nakakainis, andun pa naman sa page 5 ng manual:do not display a still image for a long time like: channel id and other logos.
ano ba talaga?
According to my Panasonic Viera sales guide booklet which I got from a panasonic rep from abenson, both the PV70 and the PV7 have the same contrast ratio of 10,000 :1. Difference lng talaga ng PV7 is that has 1 HDMI input, no front panel input jacks, and and less elegant looking cabinet design with flat black finish. For me they have the same picture quality, I chose the PV70 coz of better aesthetics. Opinion ko lang nmn.

Bro dont worry so much w/IR that is not the reason na di ka maka watch ng matagal. bawasan mo lang contrast mo to 78. Mawawala din yan, its not permanet. The new units have whitewash, it runs every 2 sec. Parang wiper. ;)

really jeff? so why don't panasonic say so para di magworry ang buyers.
Got my Panasonic 42Pv7 last thursday from TheatherWorks Trinoma, and had it wall mounted
Sayang wala si Jeff- hihirit sana ako ng freebie he he he (HDMI lang nakuha ko ha ha ha)
SARAP sana manuod, Unfortunately - i haven't got the chance to watch a lot since medyo busy ako.
Buti nalang I was looking at this thread and found that I should be watching with in full screen during the break-in period.
Anyway - ayaw ko din naman manuod ng may black bars; so safe pa din naman pala ako he he he.
I can't wait to get the 100hrs na breakin period so I can have it tweaked. Babawi ako this weekend!
Sir Vic,
Pa PM na din nung 42Pv7 - para ready na ako.
Thanks!
My officemate and I just bought 2 sets of 42PV70s and Centauri (with back mount) racks from S&S this afternoon. Thanks for the valuable advice guys!
;D
Do you have to buy a wall mount bracket for the 42PV70 to attach it to the back mount of the Centauri? Or is the back mount of the Centauri enough?
Can you post a pic of your 42PV70 attached to the back mount of the Centauri? I also bought a Centauri for my 42PV70, but I did not get the back mount because I was afraid that the TV would be mounted too high for my viewing. Thanks.

To anyone concerned regarding the difference between the Panasonic 42PV70 and 42PV7 plasma TVs, here are my observations:
I just came from Sights & Sounds yesterday, and did a side-by-side comparison between the two models and observed their picture quality and physical appearance/built.
- In terms of features, the only difference between the two models is that the Panasonic 42PV70 has two (2) HDMI inputs versus the 42PV7's one (1) HDMI input. The other difference is that the 42PV70 has a black piano finish (only at the lower speaker portion), while the 42PV7 has a flat black finish.
- But in terms of picture quality, there was NO difference at all. Other websites claim that the 42PV7 has only 8,000:1 contrast ratio versus the 42PV70's 10,000:1, but I think it's not true. They're practically the same (brightness, color, saturation, detail). All settings in both displays we're identical and both were already properly burned-in and calibrated.
The following sources were used: Spiderman 3 (R3), Monsters Inc. (R3), Transformers (blu-ray), and their demo CD, all using 720p/1080i resolution. I wasn't able to test my R1 DVDs though (LOTR3 & Star Wars3).
But I still recommend that you see it for yourself and test both displays side-by-side for your eyes to be the judge. :) I'm sure either of them will do the job well.
Thank you sir Vic for the exhaustive demonstration as well as the good conversation. 8)
RXV, can you please re-educate me or the others, on the need burn-in our plasmas... i cant wait to tweak and play widescreen dvds already...can i ask for a reminder? Thanks a lot.
(With my apologies to RXV)
The 10th Gen plasma display of the 42PV70 is supposed to have solved the perennial problem of IR (image retention) and burn-in (where images are literally burned into the phosphors/pixels of a display) inherent in all CRT and plasma displays - PROVIDED the minimum 100-hours break-in period is observed. Within the break-in period, you have to avoid watching static video images (ex. cable TV station logo identifiers such as AXN, HBO, etc and status bars common in video games) and letter-box format widescreen movies with the black bars on the top and bottom of the screens. This is supposed to ensure that all display pixels are used at the same rate since uneven pixel use may yield ghost images on the screen. You know you have a burn-in problem when you see ghost images even when the display is turned off. Also, MAKE SURE THAT THE PICTURE SETTING FOR ALL VIDEO INPUTS (AV, cable, HDMI, component, S-video, etc.) IS LOWERED FROM THE FACTORY SETTING OF 100 TO 50 OR BELOW EVEN AFTER THE BREAK-IN PERIOD! This will extend the lifetime of your display.
To avoid IR/burn-in when watching cable TV stations, I suggest that you use the ZOOM 3 feature of your TV. When watching letterbox-format widescreen movies, select the ZOOM feature that should fill up the entire screen with the best image. The different aspect ratios used for widescreen movies (1.85:1, 2.35:1, etc) would require different ZOOM treatment for best viewing results.
;D
Hi jackrabbit,
As far as I know, the 100-hours burn-in is a roughly a guide wherein the first 100 hours of a plasma TV's phosphors most are susceptible to image retention also known as "ghosting".
Avoid watching channels with static images (ex. channel logo located at the top left or top right of the screen) in order to avoid image retention. Others solve this problem by zooming in the display so that the channel logo won't be seen.
Also, adjust your TV's setting at 50% or below, especially the contrast and brightness settings.
Actually, you can watch DVDs as long as there are no static images, and not in letterbox format (black bars on the top & bottom of the screen) so that no image retention (IR) will occur. For example, I tried Monster's Inc. R3 on a Panasonic 42PV70 and it fills the entire screen. I've read somewhere in this thread that someone watched a DVD in letterbox format during the pre-100 hours recommended burn-in, and IR occurred. Fortunately, the IR disappeared after a while.
In my opinion, image retention still exists even with today's current plasmas. But of course today's technology is way better than the first generations in preventing serious image retention. Most people do the recommended burn-in of 100 hours just for peace of mind. Just to make sure that your plasma display won't end up messed up.
I suggest that you look up at the previous pages of this thread to see more opinions and suggestions regarding burn-in and plasma settings.
Good luck! :)
It's supposed to be break-in period and not burn-in, di ba mga sirs? ;)
Whoops! Break-in is the right term pala, burn-in is the image retention itself. :)
Nahihhilo na yata ako :)
Archie, yes, you don't need to break-in for 100 hours straight. :o
Basta 100 hours total
what's the advantage of having a full hd like 42py70 as against 42pv70?
malayo ba ang presyo nila?
sirs, i was really planning to get the pv70, but because of extreme price diff, might just get the pv7hs, is it really worth the savings?
sirs, i was really planning to get the pv70, but because of extreme price diff, might just get the pv7hs, is it really worth the savings?
To tetablanco and RXV, my extreme gratitude, your knowledge is like internet sites :) . This really explains a lot on the needed break-in period. I have my new PV7, and has been cautious on my usage. But one thing though, does this mean i wont be able to watch widescreen format dvds regularly beacause of the danger of burn in? Or okay na after the 100 hour break in?
;D ;D ;D thanks for the input sir.
will try your suggestion.. just got the same unit (Pio and Pana combo) from sir Vic last week. ntayin ko lang matapos yung 100 hrs breakin period para sigurado.. hehe
again, thanks a lot
fnvillafuerte laki ba diffrence pag sa 1080p n 720p? i just set it to 1080p n havent tried the other settings pa. for what ba yung HDMI color like the full RGB n the others options pa? tnx
...I'm sure LCD is still more popular outside of pinoydvd, but I never thought I would see the day when plasma would be more popular than LCD in this forum....
Parang yung tunog ng stereo sa mga jeep, pag unang sakay mo sarap pakinggan lakas bass at kalansing, pero after a while, nakakairita na... hehehe, layo 'no, anu konek?!?
This is now the longest flat panel thread on this forum. Unbelievable!
I'm sure LCD is still more popular outside of pinoydvd, but I never thought I would see the day when plasma would be more popular than LCD in this forum.
The most popular used to be the Samsung LCD. But it was quicly overtaken by the Panasonic Vieras. I have a feeling puro kay Nemesis91 yata napunta ang mga benta nito ah. 8)
I bought Pioneer DV-600AV-S last Friday to upgrade from Pioneer DV-393AV-S. I paired this new player with my recently bought Panasonic 42PV70 plasma. I experimented with various video setting in the DV-600 player and here are my impressions:
1. I got the best image quality if player is set to 720P via HDMI and HDMI color is set to full RGB.
2. The 1080P via HDMI setting yields an "over-processed" video quality. This may be due to multiple video conversion; the player upconverts to 1080P, then the plasma tv downconverts to 720P to meet its 720P native resolution.
3. Any progressive settings seems to have better image quality than the interlace settings.
The player's video settings were adjusted to "0" or default, but the BNR (Block Noise Reduction) was set to 'Yes". Video setting were done on the display only. This is to minimize over processing of the video image.
For reference by users of Pana 42PV70, here are my display's video settings:
a. Mode: Cinema
b. Contrast: 70
c. Brightness: 64
d. Color: 38
e. Sharpness: 70
f. Color Temp: Cool
g. All other setting are left untouched in default.
For the plasma calibration, I used Sound and Video Essentials (by Ovation) set-up DVD. I used Finding Nemo, Pearl Harbor, the DTS Demo Disc 6 and 8 to validate the calibration. I did not follow the 100 (or 200) hours break-in period for plasma because this 10th generation plasma panel does not need break-in period anymore.
I had a chance to compare 480P via component (using my old DV-393 player) vs 480P via HDMI (using this new DV-600 player). I say that there is a very distinct video image improvement via HDMI, more so if its 720P via HDMI! The 720P HDMI produced video with vibrant colors, very deep blacks and sharp, well focused images. Its almost HD-quality already!
Overall, I may conclude that the Pio DV-600 and Pana 42PV70 is a perfect tandem, truly bang for the buck! For now, I'll settle for this tandem while waiting for the winner in the on-going HD format war...
marami rami din po kaming bumili kay E-reply ;)
I also bought a Pio DV-600 this afternoon. Will try your settings. Thanks for sharing!
.....Even if the player only outputs at 480p, I noticed that the 42PV70's Vreal2 internal scaler did a superb job in upscaling the video. Details and colors are amazing. Not bad for a player that sells for less than half the price of a DV-600...
May difference sya, pero di kasing laki ng difference from 480p/i component to 720p HDMI. Mas pino ung 1080p kesa 720p, pero pangit ung pagkapino, parang over-processed kasi ung mga edges masyado ng sharp... try mo lalo na pagmedjo lumaapit ka sa display... Yung 720p balanced lang anh pagka sharp nya, well focused.
Yung HDMI color, laki diff pag Full RGB, lumalim yung blacks and the color is very vibrant, pero hindi yung matingkad na masakit sa mata. Whereas, pag yung RGB lang or Composite, mapusyaw ang kulay at mababaw yung blacks. If you use RGB or composite kelangan mo pang mag tweak sa video settings ng DV600 player para habulin yung quality na inilalabas ng full RGB.
Pwede ba ang 1080p sa 42pv70 gamit xbox360? Kasi wala lumilitaw sa akin eh.
tnx bro! so if set sa Full RGB, u need to tweak sa video settings ng dv600? what settings sa dv600 yun dapat chek ko? how about if sa settings ng pv70 nalng?
Can't comment on the 1080p since I'll be using the Xbox 360 for HD DVD viewing when I'm done with the recommended 100+-hour break-in period. However, I strongly advise against using the 1080p setting on the Xbox 360. The 360's 3RL problem was partly traced to GPU overheating caused by outputting at 1080p.
@ edu1216
@ Nemesis91
Sir Jeff baka may maadvise kayo kung pano 1080p sa xbox 360 using 42pv70. Bought my 42pv70 at your shop in Trinoma.
Ang alam ko even if 1080p capable ang display tapos gamitan mo ng 1080p source you'll only get the native resolution (or 1080i highest). In your case mykel, dapat nga meron lumalabas na display but a lower resolution (not 1080p). Pero baka hindi pa 1080p capable ang pv70???
Additional inquiry kay Sir Jeff and Sir Paul:
I am planning on buying a 2nd display. I'm eyeing a 40"-42" display and my first choice is the 42p70 becasue of the great feedback from those who bought this unit. Kaso I would like to buy a 1080p native resolution display (para sa PS3 ko). Should I wait for the 1080p prices to go down (under 100K) in 2008 or just go and buy a 42pv70 and pair with my PS3?
actually, even the non-elite xbox 360s (w/o HDMI) can display 1080p through component (for games) and VGA (for games and movies). it really depends on the LCD/PLASMA TV if it accepts 1080p signals via its component and/or VGA inputs. the prob is that the x360 is known for GPU overheating especially when using a res of 1080p so most x360 users content themselves w/ 720p for games and movies instead.
@ tetablanco
baka yung pv70 hindi nagaccept ng 1080p signal thru composite. baka hdmi lang siguro. ano po sa tingin nyo?....
Hi everyone! I am new here and this is my first post also. Does anybody know the difference between 42pv70H and 42pv70MT?
Hi everyone! I am new here and this is my first post also. Does anybody know the difference between 42pv70H and 42pv70MT?
Country yan sir, H for Hong Kong, S singapore and MT Malaysia/Thailand. Madami pa for other country but basically the unit is the same.....
Is the heat emitted by the plasma panel significant to bring the ambient room temperature up specially for long viewing times? Would it be ok if the room is not airconditioned? TIA ;)
Thanks! :) :)
fnvillafuerte, with regards to power consumption. May "significant increase" kaya if for example Im currently using a 200W CRT tv when I move to this plasma? I believe this consumes about 350W. TIA
... sana meron mga readily broken in (100 hrs) na mga units for sale para di na tayo mag sacrifice sa viewing and can enjoy right away.

That is why there is no more "break-in" instructions found in our user manual.
Just follow Panasonic's plasma FAQ break-in advice:

Sir nemesis, in stock pa ba yung Panasonic 42pv70H sa theather works sa trinoma. kc I am very interested in that unit.
puede pa pm ng price ng unit na iyon . thanks very much sir.
kindly PM me latest price of PV70 and PV700. my sister working abroad asked me to get her a new LCD (she wouldn't know the difference between a plasma and LCD i think) for my niece's room.sent you pm sir. ;)
thanks!
sir nemesis, pa pm din ng price for the 42pv70h/pv700. thanks!
Ei man, relax! As I mentioned in my previous post, our beloved Plasma now employs 10th generation panel; this panel is so well engineered that "burn-in" is no longer a problem. But I don't mean that our panel is already "burn-proof". What I mean here is that the 10th gen panels are much more resistant to burn-in problem as compared to previous generations because of advanced manufacturing techniques. That is why there is no more "break-in" instructions found in our user manual.
Still, permanent burn-in will definitely occur if we set the contrast and brightness to the max setting and display a static image for a very, very long time, in other word if we "abuse" the use of our Panel. For everyday normal use, we dont set the contrast and brightness to max since it will hurt our eyes and the resulting image is not desirable anymore; and we dont display static image for a very, very long time. Normal static images such as black bars in dvd movies, games, computer display and station ID's are not long enough to cause permanent burn-in, but it can cause temporary image retention. The temp image retention will always fade away naturally.
Lets enjoy our Plasmas, set aside your worries! Lets maximize the enjoynment of our investment! :) :)
mga sir ok po ba sa 42pv70 ang ps3?
Grabe match made i heaven ang ps3 and 42pv70. Just make sure you use a decent hdmi 1.3a cable.
@nemesis
pls pm me prices of full hd plasma 40" and above. thanks and happy new year :)
hi what do you mean by contrast and brightness set to the max? by default, contrast is set at 100 and brightness at 50. that ok? and what do you mean by very very very long time? :p
The default Dynamic setting of the Pana 42PV70 is NOT RECOMMENDED for use!! Because this default setting has a very bad image quality; too bright, too contrasty and colors are very saturated! And it is not good to your plasma screen because of possible permanent burn-in!! Try the Cinema or Standard settings, just tweak the settings slightly to your taste. Example of "very very very long time" static display is when you use your plasma panel to display flight schedule such as in airports.
sir nemesis, in stock pa ba sa trinoma? kindly pm me the price. thanks!Yes sir, available na ulit. Pm sent! ;)

last night i was organizing the connections at the back of my tv - 42pv70h. i noticed a very faint buzzing sound at the back of the panel left side (referenced facing front) while the tv was off (not standby) but plugged.
is this normal? unit is a few weeks old.
btw, should i already be comfortable watching matl with blackbars top and bottom considering the tv has been always at zoom since it was acquired (more than 100 hours) without risk of burning in?
thanks.
sir nemesis
how much po etong plasma nyo na panasonic 42pv70H?may kasama po ba etong freebies?
Hi guys!
Im really interested in buying line conditioner for my plasma tv...
Has anyone here tried the Xindak line conditioner? I heard its good...
Thanks all!
:)
Clarification lang para kay Sir Paul/Vic at Sir Jeff:
As per one of the posts here (forgot where -- plasma thread ata)...the PV70 is not yet HD. Meaning the native resolution of the PV70 is 1024 x 720 (paki-correct na lang kung mali). But for some, HD starts at 1280 x 720 (720p).
Given this info...does this mean hindi mag lalabas ng picture ang PS3 sa PV70 at 720p resolution?
Just want to make sure kasi I ameyeing hte PV70 as my next purchase.
Hi
Got a free Spyder Colorimeter Calibration for my Pana 42pv7 from Sir Vic.
The service is given for free if Pana Plasma is purchased fom his store.
I didn't buy my Pana fom him but earned it when I referred some friends to purchase from his store.
Anyway after the calibration the picture quality became a LOT BETTER.
Basically what the calibration does is for the Computer Application to suggest settings to accurately
fine-tune the picture according to room lighting environment.
Compoared to my previous "SUBJECTIVE" tuning of the settings - I like the computer suggested settings.
Thanks again Sir Vic for the free calibration.

Nice observation, Bien. Enjoy your reward of a better fine-tuned TV!
That's right. To depend on the naked eye in adjusting the TV picture settings is a hit or miss affair. To get a right picture, we really need scientific picture calibration. This solution not only optimizes your viewing experience but also protect TV from burn-out due to over saturated brightness and contrast.
Yes, Bien is right. You too can also avail of this free TV calibration. Just call me up at my mobile 09175413491.
For other particulars call Sights and Sounds at 634-1789 to 90.
Hi Sir Vic,
When can you schedule me for my free Spyder calibration?
Thanks,
Teta Blanco
We have done most of the calibration to our customers who stay in the South. We will call you today for the schedule here in Mtro area. Thanks for reminding.

After reading this topic, I've finally decided to buy this unit.
I would just like to commend the great deal and service I got from sir Vic of S&S. Just a side story of how good a deal I got from him: i bought the unit last thursday, unfortunately I was not able to check the forum up until today, it turned out there's a lower deal from what I got which was posted wednesday last week and I got my unit Thursday of last week. To make the long story short, Sir Vic still gave me the lower deal even if I have paid already the unit, I'll past by his shop to get the rebate I got. :) Thanks a lot! More power to you sir! :)
Thanks for your nice observations. At Sights and Sounds we value customer relations than anything else. Good relations plus good after sales service shall bring more business. And the cycle will continue...
Sir jeff,
PM naman po best price Panasonic 42pv70. Cash or Cash50%/Card50% (w/ or w/o freebies).
No installation service (From Tarlac). Hoping to buy one this weekend.
Thanks.
Sir Jeff,
Make sure you post the PV7 details per meron na. Ok na alternative din yan.
Thanks for your nice observations. At Sights and Sounds we value customer relations than anything else. Good relations plus good after sales service shall bring more business. And the cycle will continue...
Sir Jeff ano specs ng pf10 saka magkano an din?
I am one very satisfied client of Vic from Sights and Sounds. The group buy discount promo that he initiated in another PDVD thread was so successful that other vendors had no other choice but to belatedly come up with their own price reductions. Aside from giving the best prices, Vic likewise offers excellent after-sales support through his free computerized Spyder screen calibration, 3-year after-sales support, etc. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend his shop to all the members here - especially the newbies.
;D
Thanks Teta for another nice comments. I had scheduled the calibration at your place tomorrow, January 24. Paul Gonzales will be there.

those who have the 42PV70, can anyone please share the dimensions of the pedestal? width and depth please. and the total weight of the plasma as well
I have a sabre video rack the AVS 501 Luna but i dont know for certain if the dimensions of the pedestal will fit into the rack. The rack I think has a width of 22 inches, depth maybe around 16 inches.
Hi guys , first post :)
Just want to know about the spyder pro gadget that every body's talking about.
Pano ba yun gagamitin ang gadget?
Is it a mechanical stuff that will mechanically tunes your panel? or a software that will override your settings to optimize your tv?
I have this 32R81 and very happy with it. Can i see a big deference after the calibration?
Thanks
glenn
@chris69ners

Guys help naman. Nagupscale ba ng video ang xbox360? Kasi when I'm watching dvd on my 42pv70 using the xbox360 ang ganda ng pq pero when I'm watching using my pio dv-300 hindi ganun kaganda yung pq. Both were connected using component cable. Yung xbox360 is nakaoutput sya at 720p pero pag nagplay naman na yung movie e lumilitaw na 480p lang. Yung pio dv-300 naman nakaprogressive scan. Hope someone could enlighten me on the difference between the two.
Thanks

will just wait for it...
Pioneer DV400 is also a good one to partner with PV70. It can upscale movie to 1080p. Without upscaling, your DVD movie will look like VCD quality. You should utilize hdmi streaming for better PQ.

Thanks for buying TV from us. The unit is on its way to your place, hopefully arriving at 3pm today.
By the way, we shall provide the calibration for this TV after the TV has done its break-in. Please drop us a message at 09175413491 after you had done the 100 hours break-in. We shall then send our tech to do the calibration.
Just want to be clarified about the calibration of the plasma unit. Does it include Greycscale and gamma calibration or just setting the 5 basic controls along with the selection of the best color Temp. mode?
sir vic, kasali ba kayo sa shang sale this feb? anong items ang isasama nyo? tnx
Hi Vic,
Thanks for the Spyder calibration your guys did yesterday!
Even if my Panny's PQ is already top-notch out-of-the-box, your free Spyder calibration made its PQ even better.

The sensor (as shown in the picture) which is connected to a laptop will placed on the surface of your tv screen and then an accompanying calibration dvd will be played. After the tests are done, the computer will give the recommended settings that will optimize your picture and color suited for your particular TV and ambient lighting conditions. I think only Sights and Sounds offers this tv pic calibration. I got this service for free when I bought my plasma from sir Vic ;)
@chris69ners
Thank you. :) ganun ba yun.
saan poba pwede maka bili ngang ganyan didto sa cebu?
thanks again
sir Vic ... enjoying my Panasonic plasma...
by the way may stock na ba yun Bandridge HDMI Cable.... Planning to drop by this weekend in your shop....
Thanks

is there a big difference in picture quality when you use an upscaler like pioneer
dv600 instead of an ordinary player?
other forums will say that the internal upscaler of the plasma tv is enough unless
you are using a special upscaler.
I think main reason for using dv600 is bec of the hdmi connetion which gives a better picture quality compared to using a component cable atleast thats what I observed ;)
sir, how much improvement in pq?
if 10%, malamang i'll go with dv600, unless there are recommended newer models.
thanks
Finally got me a PV70 last tuesday. A little backgrounder before sharing my comments.
2 weeks ago, i saw an ad on the newspaper that Abenson is having a sale. Luwas kami that week because my wife wanted a laser treatment sa Greenhills. We passed by Abenson and had a look at their displays. Muntik na kami bumili ng worth Php 75000 na Philips or Samsung 32 or 37 inch LCD's. Buti na lang nakapagpigil si Misis. We proceeded to Trinoma to do some shopping. Fortunately nadaanan namin ang Theaterworks and we were able to look at the Panasonic 42 incher. AWESOME. Compared to the LCD's of different sizes we saw before that were playing dvd's and hd's, the picture quality of the Pana especially when playing DVD's, the size fo the screen and the price offered, got us hooked. We didn't buy that day because that was the first time i considered a plasma. Had to do some research because it got me wondering on why is the plasma being sold at a very low price, considering it's size and features. ( Matagal tagal na panahon kasi akong di tumitingin sa mga Large TV's because i thought i could never afford one. Although i was into this hometheater thing years ago. Kaya nga luma na akong member. When the first large screens came out, nainggit lang ako kaya nagbalik moviehouse na lang ako)
So my research on plasmas and lcd's made me remember this site where i'm sure there will be reviews and comments regarding these things. Buti na lang nang maglog-on ako, buhay pa ang pangalan ko. :) Read this thread. Got an even better deal from Sir Jeff and the rest is history...
I just want to take this oppurtunity to thank all the posters on this thread. I and my family are now enjoying each others company as we get to watch movies together at home. Before, when my wife asked me if we should go ahead and buy this unit, i told her. Ako kasi mas masayang nasa bahay at nanunuod ng dvd movie with my family than go out and have a drink with friends. ;) :) :D ;D.
Thank you sir jeff sa discount.
Pasensiya na sir vic mas accessible kasi sa amin ang trinoma.
Again thank you sa mga members ng PinoyDVD.

Hi Geren, kindly PM me price you got your 42PV70. Im also planning to buy for my mom this week. Tamad nako to canvass around. Tnx.
how do you guys find the internal scaler of the PV70? I have tried my phillips dvd (non-upscaling) with the PV70 via component and I'm not happy with the PQ. There are jaggies all around. Do you think I really should get an upscaler? Will this give significant improvement?
I'm not going HD soon coz of the format war and I want to enjoy my SD dvd collection on the PV70 so i think right now a good upscaler is my only choice. Or is it?
I had the opportunity of calibrating this display for my friend. I was very surprised that with Cinema mode and Warm Color temperature setting, I got a reading of 6800K from 20 to 100 I.R.E. This is indeed a very good display device. Brightness was set at 40 to increase the sets dynamic range. Gamma was at 2.1. With Greyscale calibration made, The set was at 6500K across the whole luminance spectrum. My point is, out of the box, the set is GREAT, with calibration it's SPECTACULAR
Equipment used: Colorfacts 7.0 w/ Eye1pro Spectrophotometer.
Gusto ko sana. Pero nakakatakot. You have to go to the Service mode to do it. If you mess up just 1 parameter , it might make the PQ worse than before. Without calibration, just have the set at WARM temp. and Cinema mode. Bringdown Brightness to 40 to 42 and dont change any other setting. You are then at 6800k, just 300k away from the target which is VERY GOOD. If you are using spyderTV, this will probably be the recomendation also. With spyderTVpro, you might use the Service mode menu but I find the probe of the spyderTV a little off in accuracy, pero maganda na rin. Hindi naman yata tama kung pareho accuracy, kasi SpyderTVpro is around 599(?) while colorfacts is 4500 w/the I1pro. ;D

watched king kong fall from the empire state building during the sunset.
side by side with my old sony, the 42pv70 with the sky which should be blue is leaning to the green side,
while the sun rays which should be red, is leaning to the yellow. not much luck with the tint adjustment.
waiting for the 100th hour when i hope it will be remedied by the free calibration of S&S.
Thanks
Yes,we will come to solve your problem with the use of award winning Spyder colorimeter calibration.
To depend on the naked eye in adjusting the TV picture settings is a hit or miss affair. To get a right picture, we really need scientific picture calibration. This solution not only optimizes your viewing experience but also protect TV from burn-out due to over saturated brightness and contrast.

Enjoying my Panasonic 42PV700
Sir Vic....
Available na ba yun bandridge HMDI cable?
Bandridge HDMI cable is arriving next week. Will keep you informed. Thanks for reminding.
users of 42pv70 have you tried watching local channels (4:3 format) more than 2 hours? the side bars is off (black not gray with settings of low mid high) i'm afraid kasi baka ma-ir yung both sides eh..
haven't tried watching in 4:3 format but have watched cable channels in 16:9 with black bars on top and below, no IR whatsoever even for more than 2 hours viewing.
hi, I am planning to buy this unit but there's only one thing that bothers me. I've read from within this forum that
this model has a native resolution of only 1024x768 which by HD standard is a little below the define 720p standard
which is 1280x720. Yes I know this unit delivers very good picture quality but I hope someone can enlighten me on the
pros and cons of having a 1024x768 tv vs those that are defined as 720p and above. I really am leaning on buying this one
but ever since reading those articles, I having second doubt.
please help sir nemesis, sir e-reply. thanks
Personally, I wouldn't mind its resolution as compared to the performance of this baby. Saw LCD models with a 1280x720 resolution but wouldn't match up with the picture quality of this model. Plugged in a PC, upscaling DVD players up to 1080p via HDMI and regular DVD players with component video connections and all I can say is WOW! Specs wouldn't say much on how your flat screen will perform.
Oh now I see, this baby really rocks. thanks!
i always want to watch local channel (GMA Kapuso) in 4:3 format because the people look so fat in JUST mode... but always worry on ir, i just switch from 4:3 to JUST simoustanously: program (4:3) commercial ads (JUST)...
and im tired doing it...
ako bro nasanay na sa widescreen so kahit cable channels 16:9 or just ko pinapanood ;D
don't worry much about IR, have tried my plasma for 3 hours straight with those balck bars above and below (watching LOTR) I didnt find any IR whatsoever...or mahina na siguro mata ko ;D
I did this while still on so called break-in period. nasa 75 hours pa lang ako as of yesterday
wow! so it's true that the pv70 has no ir or burn in problem issues anymore... well thanks for the info i can now watch local tv channels in 4:3 mode (they will not look fat (or bansot) anymore) i want kasi the true dimension format of what source im watching eh. i dont want to see stretched people but i do love to watch 16:9 movies that fit the whole screen
Pde malaman settings nyo sa Panny nyo... like the contrast, brigthness, etc.... tapos COOL gamit ko sa colors...
Don't have mine wall mounted, so will not be able to give you feedback how it heats up if on a wall. For the stand it comes with, aircon or not the back part of the tv is the one that heats up more than the front. That is- after a considerable long period of viewing ::) Overall, i would highly recommend the unit. Go for it, great for tv viewing, better for movies ;D Get the Wife Approval, then go for it :)what is your concern? Na mag overheat yung plasma or maging mainit ang viewing area?
Blackie ;D
Hi po, planning to buy this model din but my concern is kung wallmount ba siya at di naka aircon ang living room di kaya siya mag init? Can you help me decide? Gusto kasi ni commander wall mount. Thanks....
My friend got this model (upon my recommendation). When it was installed in her home, a strange thing happened. The signal from the remote control of the pana is apparently the same as or close to the mitsubishi aircon she has in her house (the kind operated by remote control). So, whenever she touched anything in her pana remote (volume, switch channels etc), the aircon would respond with an annoying click. she had no choice but to buy another model/brand.
Thanks mga guys, now am going to convince my wife on getting this model.a plasma was once a 300k investment. now its almost 1/6th that. Good luck on the convincing, tell her it'll keep you home more often... it worked for me. ;)
ano po ideal viewing distance with 42pv70...
8ft po ako eh....
kayo po?

I set my panny to 40 all settings (contrast, brightness, etc.) in standard mode for the break-in period. CAn't wait for the spyder calibration to get the best settings.
40 lahat... mukhang madilim yan bro... :)
hehe ako din bro nasanay na na naka zoom kahit on regular catv viewing.
well about IR...i did exp this with mine...hehe nababad kasi ng laro sa PS3 eh kaya ayun may makikita ka lalo na pag all white screen mo. pero nawawala din naman n di mo makita pag sa normal viewing

bro kt, ako na-experience ko IR with the logo of my dvd player, less than 1 minute lang nakababad sa screen ayun may IR pag all black naman ang screen pero nawala rin after a while when watching other programs. but with regards to the black bars wala naman ako napansin na IR
Sir Athos45, this would rather be difficult for me since I am outside the country right now ;), actually my family wants me go home now so I think the better convincing power is buy the Plasma or I will not go home hehehe ;D
peace
Uy pare, I just read your PMs sakin! It's good to hear na napili mo itong Pana 42PV70, ang ganda nito, super bang for the buck ika nga! Look, eto yung unit ko:

Yang pic na nyan ang pinost ko sa thread na "how do you clean your LCD..." kaya ang nakafocus eh yung hitech na basahan, hehehe!!! :D
Mga sirs, ano po ba ang native resolution ng panasonic plasma model na 'to? thanks po for any reply.
thanks to S&S, just had my set calibrated. laki ng difference sa color clarity.
but placing the panny side by side with my old 32" sony xbr and watching skycable,
i notice that the skin tones of the panny are yellowish, while the blue of the night is aqua green.
panalo ang old set ko dito in terms of color.
haven't test it though using dvd's.

Nice observations. But I think you should try DVD movie viewing to better appreciate the improved picture quality. Sometimes the weak signal from cable receptions deteriorate the color and black contrast.
Nevertheless, enjoy your new calibrated TV.
Sir, mas maganda nga pag dvd viewing, pero magye-ellowish pa rin yan pag naka "warm" yung color temp. No amount of setting or calibration can remove that yellowish tint, the only solution is to set the color temp to "cool".

hi,
Finally made my purchase of pana 42pv70 this morning at theather works. I just wanted to commend
it's staff for their friendly and quality service they give their clients. Kudos to sir Jeff and more power.
Had my panny calibrated by S&S and i can say there is substantial improvement in PQ.
I learned from the tech that the calibration is good for the current source (player) and environment. This then means that if I change my source I need the tv to be calibrated again. Plan ko pa naman change player ko.
Sir Vic free pa din naman yung re-calibration di ba? ;D ;D
finally "auditioned" a 42pv70, mas natural ang color tone nya compared to the sony 40v300. unfortunately, i can see myself (screen reflections) while watching a movie ;D. it act like a mirror during dark scenes :( even with the store's low lighting environment -- sayang >:(. now, i'm aiming for an LCD nalang, esep-esep na naman.
The reflecting screen of the plasma was the main turn off for me when I decided to purchase flat screens. This is the reason I selected LCD's. I know there are new plasma panels that are supposed to be non-reflective already, but I havent seen one that approximates the LCD screen.
The poor viewing angles, easily damaged screens, bad picture quality when watching dvds and cable channels, eye straining brightness, blurring motion on fast scenes and poor contrast ratios were all the turn offs for me when I decided to buy a flatscreen. This is the reason I purchased the 42pv70. Compared to lcd with all its negatives, the superb picture quality of my plasma outweighs the reflection problem it has. I just turn off the lights or use pin lights when watching movies. I havent seen a an LCD that can match the picture quality of a plasma when watching HD discs, dvds and tv programs.
very well said...
i'm very satisfied with the pq of 42pv70 the standard dvd looks like hd (lalo na when we watch p***ted dvd Dragon wars the pq was awesome napa wow kami sa sobrang kinis looks like were watching HD na) and the divx movies looks like sdvd, this tv has a very good internal upscaler especially when you pair it with pioneer dv600...
hindi ba ma-"reflect" itong panasonic 42pv70?super duper satisfied also, if youre not right behind a window you wouldnt have much problems. Its not a convex shaped screen naman like old CRTs which reflect all the light in the room. I recommend the PV70 be 2 feet or less from the ground para may downward viewing angle ka like what my eye doctor said. Less strain from the eyes.
baka nakakainis manood ng dark movie kapag daytime.
hindi ba ma-"reflect" itong panasonic 42pv70?
baka nakakainis manood ng dark movie kapag daytime.
For me mas nakakainis pag ang pangit ng picture ng pinapanood ko! Isnt it still obvious that this thread wouldnt be this long if all of us who purchased this tv complained and suffered from the mild reflections we see while watching on this plasma? PICTURE QUALITY NGA ANG HABOL NAMIN EH! Just go and buy yourself an LCD. End of story.

Sir vIC
Dumating na ba yun stock mo of bandridge cable,,,,
thanks
Sir, I suggest you invest nalang in curtains or blinds and buy the PV70 rather than go for LCD. We have windows with blinds when watching during the day but no problems. At the start I noticed some slight reflections (if you really want to notice it) as compared to my previous LCD TV but in repetitive watching, you'll get used to it and won't mind it at all. You are watching the video content anyway rather than watching who's outside your window. ;D
na-audition ko yung 42pv70 s theaterworks, much better for me compared to sony 40V.
ano yung reflection thingy? dark room kasi sa theaterworks, pero mas nabilib ako sa plasma...
if you have something bright in front of the plasma screen, mas makikita mo yung reflection nya on the plasma
screen as compared to sa lcd screen. for me, this is the only remaining "uncertainty" left before i go for a plasma.
but since im going to use the tv mostly for cable viewing and dvd, the picture quality of the lcd is not good
enough for my purpose.
thanks to athos, nerveblocker and barrister for your helpful comments.hi, i think alot of us guys here came from owning an lcd tapos nagswitch sa plasma.
you all know that im shopping for a tv. the reason why i asked the "reflect" question was because you cant "home audition" a plasma tv and not to bash the panasonic plasma.
i cannot really tell for sure how the "reflect" thing play out in my room.
your comments go a long way in helping me decide which tv to buy, which is why i came to this forum in the first place.
I think my next step is the ax100 or ax200. how would you compare the plasma against projector?
maybe in terms of PQ / eyestrain / lamp life.
enjoying watching them dvd's again.
thanks to fnvillafuerte, e-reply, tetablanco, and nerveblocker for your comments.
enjoying watching them dvd's again. okay rin pala siya when the contrast and brightness are set to zero in a dark room.
baka mamaya oldies, Casablanca, normally how do you watch those 4:3, minsan gamit ko zoom1 kundi 4:3 kaysa tumaba ang mukha ni Humphrey he he...
finally made the purchase! sooo excited! wednesday ang delivery!
thanks to sir vic!~
syanga pala, got this as a gift from gf! ;D as in nagulat ako! pag ako isang taong wala kainan bago ko to mabili! :D kaya dapat magpakabait na! ;D
my biggest concern is the Burn in Image ( did i term it correctly? ;D) sir vic, if this happens to my unit, is it covered by the warranty? palit ng unit?
cheers!
For the mere fact that the Manufacturing Company cannot determine if the burn-in TV is damaged due to improper use or not, the manufacturer cannot provide guaranty for screen burn-in.
ok,i'l just be very carefulwith it.
it has finally arrived! last night! dvd ( p*****d) lookedreally good! pero im verydisappointed on how it performs sa cable tv, soooooobrang maulan,as in sobra. sabi ng nag install baka dahil naka digibox kame, hindi nila mai-rekta yung connection. ???
is there anything i can do? hindi kasi sya bearable panuoran ng cable tv. :(
Yes, pixellated talaga pag naka-zoom.
OK lang ang 1x zoom mo sa DVD kasi walang black bars. Pero kulang siguro ang zoom mo sa TV kasi may mga station logos and bottom text/ticker pa rin?
anchit,
try mo i-cinema mode during cable tv viewing. mas walang dumi. softer picture lang nga. see if you prefer it to the default setting.
On breaking in can we just use the A-B feature of the dvd player by labelling the start as A then the end as B then use repeat? At least you wouldn't be looking at your setup once in awhile to check if the dvd is finished already during long hours of breaking in.
i was anticipating that the PQ, in terms of detail, color will not be as good, pero i didnt expect yung "ulan". :(
was at Theater works last weekend, saw their sammy 42" na ka TV, OK naman sya, sabi pa nung rep " sir antenna pa lang yan, di pa cable yan". compared to what i saw, compared to what i have right now, diff is night and day. :(
Just an update. I had an electrician check out what the problem is with my cable. It turned out grounded daw. Anyway, they were able to fix the problem and now, cable reception is as clear as my CRT (or parang clearer pa nga especially if you're watching from 8 feet away. I couldn't be happier. I thought pangit ang tuner ng Samsung, I was wrong.
yes, I've taken that into consideration. Viewing distance is 10-12 ft. This morning I transferred the LCD to the family room where my 29" sony CRT is connected. Reception with the CRT is good, but when I connected the LCD, pictures are grainy and again, some channels are unwatchable,
just curious, so how did the electrician test for a grounded cable signal? ???
Not really sure. KInabitan lang niya ng tester at tiningnan yung palo ng needle and then may kinalikot siya. After a while ok na. Sorry, I can't give much detail at di ko rin naintindihan, pero super happy na ako sa LCD reception ko.
Yes. Ang bad TV reception kasi ay less obvious pag CRT ang monitor, pero puwedeng unwatchable na pag LCD or plasma na ang monitor.
Disclaimer:
I have no personal experience with the problem. Posts lang ni sir R1DVD ang basis ko ;D.
Please browse:
Same problem with my unit. As in hindi mo maaninag ang face ng character pag regular local TV station viewing (thru aerial antenna) :D
Ang solusyon ko, watch nalang using Sony CRT25Inch pag TV station. Pag movie plasma.

Guys,
I downloaded a divx6 file that has a resolution of 1280x720p... audio lang lumalabas sa Panny ko. Its connected via HDMI... naka 1080p setting ako sa Pioneer 600AV ko... try ko sa 720p, 1080i.. wala pa rin video.. baket kya? i know this should be supported...pero sa screen ang lumalabas na error is "this video resolution is not supported" :( :( :( :(
I tried hooking up my laptop via PC input.... lumabas sa tv ko yung screen ng laptop ko...but when i played the video using my VLC media player sa sa computer ko.... black screen ang video >:( >:( >:(
Can you play the file in Windows Media Player on your Laptop? Check your codecs. (installed ffdshow codecs on mine in order to play mkv files)
I hooked up my laptop with hdmi output to my panny. I played Planet Earth in mkv format using windows media player. The file is 720p resolution. No problems both in audio and video. The panny would even recognize 1080p resolution if i upscale the screen resolution on my lappy.
Try a different player with the proper codecs.
have found a way to "dramatically"improve the signal!!!!!!
changed the region to AMERICA, re-auto tune and voila! it is now comparable sa crt signal ko dati! :D happy happy!
reading the manual before using it really does help! weird lang kasi sa AMERICA region kasama ang Philippines.
For those who havent read the manual, go to page 23. :)
salamat sa lahat ng tumulong! really appreciate it.
now on my 15th hour..... 85hrs to go. ;)

sir may i ask what is your laptop's video output? is it vga or dvi?

how is picture quality of the mkv file on your pv70? as clear as normal dvd playback ba?
has anyone used an infrared wireless headphone with the pv70?
1. is there heavy interference? do you hear more interference than actual tv volume?
2. is there still sound coming out of the plasma speakers even if you plug in the headphone jack?
Guys,
I tried hooking up my laptop via PC input.... lumabas sa tv ko yung screen ng laptop ko...but when i played the video using my VLC media player sa sa computer ko.... black screen ang video >:( >:( >:(
Playing a 720p mkv file on the panny is way better than any dvd movie i've seen. You'll definitely notice the difference especially if you are over the break in period and have adjusted the picture settings. Planet Earth is awesome. I will definitely buy the Blue Ray Edition pag nakabili na ako ng PS3.
Ganda rin ng Prison Break 720p. Enjoy si Misis.
Got the pana 42pv70 and pio DV 600AV some 3 weeks ago. good combination! Have been watching my widescreen dvds ever since.
But now I notice a problem in the plasma. I see a black strip at the top edge measuring 1/2 inch thick whenever I change channels. I also see it when watching dvds. It's visible when the background is gray or black but not noticeable when the display is bright. I don't think it's a burn-in problem since I am only seeing it at the top.
When I close the tv, i can see the black strip on the display. The black strip disappears in the morning when cooled but after using it again for more than 2 hours, it appears again.
Is there anyone out there who has this problem? Is this a factory defect?

bro how big yung file per episode pag 720p?
Prison Break 1.07 Gb
Planet Earth 2.14 Gb

Guys, I just noticed last night while watching Bourne Identity that there was indeed flickering on my Hitachi panel. The flickering occurs on dark scenes. Very strange. Care to shed some light into this matter? TIA. :)
Try turning off all picture enhancements.
Kung ganun pa rin, sira siguro ang software ng TV mo. Ask for a replacement. I think it's similar to the Hitachi contrast fluctuation problem, a known defect on Hitachi plasmas:

Hello Otepsy!
Like Boybi I have not experienced this. This might be an isolated case and you might like to bring the concern to the shop were you got it from.
Hope you are able to fix this.
thanks to all of you i'll probably contact the shop where i bought my pv70.
this is my connection
pioneer dv600 connected via hdmi (bandridge).
i have tried different titles yet ganun pa rin.
medyo nakakairita nga eh hindi ko maenjoy yung movie dahil inaabangan ko yung flactuation almost lahat ng dark scenes meron
mukang ok naman setup mo bro. same source din naman tayo. have you tried using component or composite connections n see if ganun parin? baka sa cable may prob eh
medyo maiba ng topic, may i know kung gano talga katagal ang buhay ng plasma natin? yung real life na lifespan nya? 3 years? 5 years? How long bago mo masabi na sulit na sya?
ako kasi iniisip ko, parang swerte na to pag umabot ng 3 years.
There are steps you can take to ensure longer and better life from your plasma display panel:
Watch the unit in full widescreen format as much as possible to avoid differentiation between the side bars of the unit. While this does not actually decrease the longevity of the phosphors it does cause an annoyance to have to play a gray static image to "erase" the temporary burn in.
Hope d foregoing helps.
Hi sir, does this mean that it is not recommended to watch movies in 2.35:1 or greater format? Paano yon sir e halos lahat ng movies ngayon
ganito format. Pangit naman cguru kung i zoom natin e di na da natural yung aspect niya. Akala ko kasi pag na burn-in na ng more than
100 hours eh okay na manood ng may black bars at di na siya mag kaka image retention problem.
guys i tried component cable last night meron pa rin contrast fluctuation ganun pa rin. i'm gonna call the seller now. huhuhu
I'm just curious, how is the warranty arrangement with our friendly members' HT stores anyways?

naku ganun ba bro? ask your seller nalang din about that issue. goodluck n balitaan mo lang kami

Defective yan sir, have it replace. Sa hitachi ganun din karamiha ang sira, but the Hitachi company here denies that their units are defective (they charge the client for repairs). Bihira yan sa panasonic, have them test it para safe. Nasa warranty pa naman yata yan.
^bro thats good to hear na under waranty pa!
thanks for posting this apprent defect sir otepsy, I should try to watch out for this intently on my panny.....
.....Anyway, what's the best way to test for the problem of "contrast flactuation"? Sa end credits ba mas glaring ito? Will try this tonight to see for myself.
thanks for posting this apprent defect sir otepsy, I should try to watch out for this intently on my panny. When fully gripped by the scenes on a film kasi di ko na napapansin kung may color defects. What I notice sometimes is that the black bars on top and below the screen sometimes talagang black but at times parang washed out and leaning more on dark grey. I dont know baka sa program material lang. Will have to test this thoroughly.
Anyway, what's the best way to test for the problem of "contrast flactuation"? Sa end credits ba mas glaring ito? Will try this tonight to see for myself.
Ang alam ko, may automatic contrast & brightness talaga ang software ng plasma. Pero konting konti lang yan. Hindi mo mapapansin.
Normal lang yata yung konting lightness and darkness sa fade-in, fade-out na end credits.
There has to be some failure in the software or hardware controlling the auto black adjust.
I second the motion, bhongskie! Baka we and other pana 42pv70 users here have same problem pero di lang natin napapansin kasi we are not conscious of it! ??? ???
Thanks otepsy for bringing this issue up, you woke up our senses to be observant with our pv70's! Please give us tips on how to detect if our unit have possible "contrast fluctuation" problem.
Thanks!
have tried to look out for the contrast/color fluctuation last night and fortunately I didn't notice any in my panny. But I'm still uneasy coz I havent really tested thoroughly.
Have tried Blade as suggested by otepsy wala naman ako napansin na fluctuation. I also used scenes from Behind Enemy Lines particularly the scene where a partial moon is shown in white moving from center top to lower right of the screen with everything black in the background (i think this is just at the start of chapter 15 if not mistaken maybe around the 43rd minute into the movie). played this several times and havent noticed a change in black levels. hopefully wala talaga sa unit ko. did the test using pio 600 and a philips dvd.
otepsy im also using pio dv600 thru hdmi n wala naman ako na notice kahit na sa mga black bars on dvd viewing
finally my own 42pv70! we got 4 units kay sir jeff aka Nemesis yesterday and 3 units 32" lcd. Panny din brand :), sikat dito sa forum eh. More power pdvd for a very informative site. kung wala ito baka sa chain store lang kami nakabili. more power to Theaterworks and to jeni and jun for assisting, salamat din sa mga bluray na freebies.
Bait na bait sayo dad ko sir! Next time ulit budget muna kami para sa mgandang ht system. ;D
Sira talaga yan unit na yan, its like watching pal movie on a NTSC monitor. Parehong pareho ng hitachi plasmas. Sa ibang 42pv70 walang ganun. its very visible when you see it lalo na sa darkscene.
will try the blade protions tonight.
what i noticed in the top and bottom black bars, nag-iiba sya ng pagka-black but I think depends sa program material. like in my case, the movie Troy has very black bars while in ghost rider its like a washed out black hindi talaga sya black na black. that is with same settings.
OT: sa mga pio 600 and pv70 combo users, anong gamit nyong HDMI color? In my case, scenes are too dark if I use Full RGB. Ganun ba talaga yun?
oo nagbabago yung black bars but in different titles pero sakin nagbabago in different scenes hindi constant yung pagka black nya..
regarding sa settings i also use full rgb para sa akin mas maganda eh ewan lang sa ibang users...
Did you experience this problem since the first day you got your unit? Or, did you notice this only a few days or just weeks ago?
Just a tip bro, try performing a simple power reset on your TV. Unplug it from the wall outlet or power source then plug it back in after 5 minutes and turn it back on. I work for sony USA tech support for BRAVIA models and I'm one of their product specialists. Sometimes in cases like these it could just be a glitch on the software of the tv and a simple reset just might fix the problem. It works for some of the sony owners that Ive talked to when their tvs exhibit unusual behavior or performance.
Try going to setup menu first, then access shipping condition and set it to default settings. After that, perform the power reset. If it still doesnt work, most likely something is really wrong with the tv. Software updating is usually the solution for this but in your case having the tv replaced by the dealer since the unit is still under the warranty is still the best way to go. Make sure to test it before accepting the replacement if ever. Hopefully i wouldnt encounter this problem on my panny. :)
OT Question (Sorry):
dv-600 users ask ko lang bakit kaya ang audio nakasulat pag negsekect ka ng audio is always 2.1 even though the track is 5.1 at ang nilalabas nya naman sa reciever is 5.1 nagtataka lang ako dahil lahat ng pinapanood ko lagi na lang 2.1 ang nakadisplay either dts or dolby ang speaker settings ko naman sa player is 5.1. bakit kaya?
Hindi ba 3/2.1 ang nakalagay? (Hindi DV-600 ang Pioneer ko e)
Pioneer's 3/2.1 means 5.1 ---- 3 front channels, 2 rear channels, and .1 LFE (Low Frequency Effects).
Nagtataka rin ako kung bakit ganyan sa Pioneer, kasi hindi iyan ang standard notation for multichannel sound.
Where is your HTIB connected now? Some receivers already HDMI capable. You can hook up your tv to your player via HDMI and your player to your receiver via usual connections, if this is what you were asking ;D
ngayon the regular dvd player is connected to the tv thru component. wala pa kasi HDMI ou ung player na kasama ng HTIB q20.
Try Pioneer DV-600 pre, mas ok 'to (based on the reviews ng mga Pdvd members) compared dun sa philips na nakita mo, halos di naman nagkakalayo ang price nila :)
Bro, check out this site for connections ng Pio 600.
http://www.avland.co.uk/pioneer/dv600/dv600.htm
pero pwede ko ba i-connect yung mga speakers ng sammy HTIB ko to that pioneer? baka iba yung socket? have checked the philips, hindi swak yung mga socket ng speakers ng samsung.
anchit, but can this output 5.1 from our PV70?
Same problem tayo before...I had the same set up. Pio DV600 and a Samsung HTiB.
Hindi mo pwede i-derecho ang Pio DV600 papunta sa HTiB mo.
So ang gagawin mo diyan...para magamit mo yung 5.1 speakers ng HTiB mo...is this:
Pio DV600 --> Display's In - must be via HDMI para magamit mo ang upscale option
Display's Audio Out --> HTiB Audio In - RCA cables will do.
So when watching a DVD you have to set you HTiB sa Aux mode to be able to output adn audio sa 5.1 speakers ng HTiB.
HTH :)
It still rocks, kahit luma na mabenta pa din!!! ;)
Im sure the new one will have a tread like this. ;D
Hi guys. How do you improve skycable reception in our plasma tv? Would a signal booster help? Unfortunately, digi box is not yet available in our area

hi vic, meron na ba tayo sked para sa calibration ng panny ko? thanks!
Please send me thru mobile 09175413491 your name, address, preferred date. We shall advise you the confirmed schedule.
Hi! already texted you last friday o thursday ata yun, have supplied the details already. also pakipadala na din yung kapalit ng AV HDMI, yung bandrige,
thanks!
@ sir e-reply
pa pm din ng current price NG 42pv70H. thanks
just a question, how would you know that your voltage regulator is working aside fom the bulb that lights up whenever i turn it on? Yung gamit ko kasi sa panny ko was an old stock avr, 500w, matagal nakaimbak, never been used till dumating yung plasma ko.
....sir vic and jeff, why dont you go mainstream o mag full blast advert kayo? meron ba agreement between manufacturers to follow SRP kunwari or not to directly compete with these AV/appliance stores?
PV70 din ba yung 103" na plasma ng panasonic? Saw it last night at Trinoma, gamit ng Sunsilk Shanpoo sa Ad nila, sa top most floor tabi ng moviehouses.
OT...
Anchit,
I was there last night, around 8:30pm i think, i saw that too, nalula ako sa laki, hehe :)
Sir Jeff,
Pls. pm me the price.....
hi,
has anyone here tried connecting it to a computer. did you connect it through DVI, VGA?
How is the quality also? I tried connecting mine using a 5m vga cable and the picture
on the plasma is not very good. it flickers constantly. Don't know if this is due to the
low quality vga cable i bought at cdrking.
Probably the VGA cable. I have used a Tripplite 5 meter VGA cable with no problems whatsoever.
sir vic and sir jeff pls pm me the price of 42pv70. TIA!
Nemesis, please send me the best deal you can give me for the 42PV70, Vic has already sent his offer for this. Along with a great deal for after market support.
check mo muna video settings mo. yung sa pinsan ko kasi may konting flicker while playing call of duty 4. i noticed his setting was 800x600. nung pinalit ko sa 1366x768 naayos.
sir vic and sir jeff pls pm me the price of 42pv70. TIA!
e-reply best price for 50pv70 and 5-pv700?

I'm no expert, but since the source is still a standard DVD, there is really minimal difference between the when upscaled to 720P and 1080i. You really have to look closely to notice the difference. I bet this would be a different story once we use either a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD's and the player
upscaled to 1080p using pioneer dv600
upscaled to 1080p using denon 2308 faroudja processor
** HDMI output from denon's faroudja produced more natural and smooth color compared to direct HDMI out of dv600
congrats sir weng, dumating na din tv mo. ;D
after break in period ok na sya panooran kahit may static images or black bars pero hindi maiiwasan yung image retention mabilis lang naman wala less than a minute wala na IR then after calibration mas magiging maganda pa PQ nya WOW talaga... almost HD quality na even SDVD lang play mo...
sakin i tried wathing the entire movie with the balck bars sa ibabaw at ilalim, parang 5mins ata sya bago mawala, pero maybe its just my eye na nasanay sa may black bars after almost 2 hours.
pero definitely, mawawala din agad.
i admit its has 1 of the best if not the best picture quality i ever seen problem is high power consumption compared to full hd lcds
Based on my actual experience, yung Pana 42" ko last December pa pero di tumaas ang electric bill ko, in fact, medyo bumaba pa nga ng several hundreds! :) Kasi, mali yung impression natin na ang plasma ay malakas sa kuryente. In reality, matipid sya kasi yung rating nya na 350++ watts ay kapag ang display ng plasma ay pure white image. Ang plasma kasi kumakain lang ng kuryente pag lighted or naka ilaw yung individual pixel nya. So in movie scenes, di naman lahat white ang image which means not all pixels are lighted kaya di umaabot ng full wattage yung consumption. In real life, nag-aaverage lang ang plasma natin ng 120-150 watts.

same here, no significant changes sa electricity bill, and if there were any, it's my aircon's fault kasi sobrang init na ngayon. ;)
+1. I did not experience any "jump" in my electricity bill since I got my Panny.
What is pixel wobbling?
Based on my digital watt meter reading, the Panasonic 42Pv70 consumes an average of 200-250w on normal TV viewing (meaning a constant mix of bright and dark scenes).
How much is the Pana 42pv70H going for nowadays?
How much is the Pana 42pv70H going for nowadays?
the 50" plasmas consumes 500watts where as the 52" lcds consumes only 350watts. So if i watch a full length movie, the equivalent is 1kilowatt just the same as the 1 hp aircon. Matakaw tlga sa kuryente ang plasma tvs and its also not adviceable on high rise condos may altitude problem yan ksi nga gas.
Sir, is your digital watt meter rated at 50Hz? If yes, the reading you are getting is higher than the actual watt consumption. I asked this because most of the watt meters I see in stores here are rated at 50Hz because they are imported.
How much is the Pana 42pv70H going for nowadays?
I would like to know this too.
Also got my 42pv70 from Vic/E-Reply just this weekend lang. Transaction was very smooth from my inquiries with his staff (very attentive) all the way to the delivery and installation. In fact, they were very punctual based on their commited delivery time (my experience kasi for any delivery, they are always 2-3hours delayed)
Question lang pala: which should i get first - a voltage regulator or a line conditioner? I've already consulted the other thread on this, but it will be best to get first hand experience from owners of 42pv70.
and yet...another one bites the dust!!!
I got mine just through text negotiations with Sir Vic.
never left my office seat.
1. Text Vic for his best price.
2. YM'd my friend for him to canvass better prices and he gave me a great figure.
3. I asked Vic if he can match and he did.
4. I deposited my payment in his account.
5. They delivered after I set things up properly in my room, with Sigma entertainment center, Mediagate player, my yammy AVR, B&W fronts and Mission rears and Velo subs, all courtesy of inputs from this site as well.
Could it be pinoydvd is dictating all my HT purchases?! Definitely.

im on the 40th hour of my 50pv70 and watching dvds in zoom1 mode. the pic quality is really sharp even all settings below 50, almost blue ray sya. watched downloaded divx (700 mb) files, the video quality is still crisp after upscalling using the faroudja of a denon amp. glad i had bought this one instead of an lcd, it meets my needs which is good pic quality.

Hi Guys,
Pashare naman ng settings nyo. Tapos na rin ako sa 100hrs break in period ko.
Will really appreciate it.
thanks.
sir vic,
pa send din ng break in procedure.
Parating na ulit 20 units 42pv70 again. :D
Boss Jeff, pa pm price ulit meron nanaman requirement sa office. :)
pwede rin ba magamit yung 42pv70 as a pc monitor?not recommended for use as pc monitor ang plasma bcoz of burn in problems. buy an lcd instead better for gaming and as pc monitor. plasma at 50" or bigger best for viewing medieval and outer space movies w/c usually comes w/ dark scenes like (LOTR and STAR WARS).
pwede rin ba magamit yung 42pv70 as a pc monitor?
Mediyo kalat na yung pixel sir, get a 1 meg 42pv700 or 2 meg plasma 42py700.
jeff,
nasubukan mo ba ang 50pv70 as pc monitor, okay kaya ang result nya? 1 meg naman ang panel nito, dba?
Through with my break-in.
Sir Vic, pa schedule naman ng calibration.
And if not too much trouble, is it possible to kindly bring a duplicate copy of my invoice/receipt? I can't seem to find it.
Please text me to coordinate schedule.

Jeff, what the difference between 42pv70h and 42pv70mt?
Same lang sir, location identification lang. ;)
Thanks Sir Jeff. ;D
Welcome bro, lapit na 42pv80 natin.Hi sir Jeff,
Panasonic Phil has announced the release of this unit this JUNE!
true contrast ratio 30,000 is to One.
problem is the price (unknown ), we have an open contract w/Panasonic Phil for 300 units till December.
The company's restructuring plan will see it end basic panel production at two factories in Japan by March 2009. In their place the company will buy panels from Panasonic and use those to make PDP TVs under a provisional agreement with Panasonic. As part of the deal some of Pioneer's plasma display panel know-how will be transferred to Panasonic and the two companies will work jointly on display development, it said.
^ sir is the 42pv80's resolution already 1 megapixel(1366x768) or is it still 1024x768? i hope its price is near 42pv70's..

Hi sir Jeff,
Nice to know that the panasonic TH-42PV80 will be available soon. Let us know the details and pricing as soon as you have units available ok? I might hold off on getting the TH-42PV70 if the newer model is not far-off in price :)
Thanks!
still 1024x768... don't think there are any 42" plasma with 720p resolution (50" plasma have)... funny eh, specially when panny does 42" 1080p (py700/800)

Yes i was hoping na mura, alam mo naman kung galing sa company 1st release nila mahal pa. :DHehe! looks like it will take some time for the price of the TH-42PV80 to come close to TH-42PV70 levels :D
Hehe! looks like it will take some time for the price of the TH-42PV80 to come close to TH-42PV70 levels :DBased on certain reasons, i chose an lcd over this model just 6 months ago but if i have the luxury of buying another flat panel, this plasma will be next in line. Its like owning cars. I first chose to own car that runs w/ gasoline and yet will want to own another that runs w/ diesel. The PV70 is is a good choice since it really has good picture quality and of course the price is right. Go ahead buy it now and enjoy!
Anyway, might as well go for the TH-42PV70 and enjoy it for the meantime. Besides if the newer model still uses the same resolution of 1024x768 pixels (or still 720p), then I suppose the quality is not that far from the previous model. New features though according to their website are the native 15,000:1 contrast ratio and the 24p playback ;)
Here's some reviews of the Panasonic TH-42PX80 which I think is the UK version of the TH-42PV80:

interested in buying 42pv70 please send me details and price, saan ba office nyo? hd na ba to, o tatakbo lang ang hd dito, sorry for the question sadyang newbie lang talaga.

Hehe! looks like it will take some time for the price of the TH-42PV80 to come close to TH-42PV70 levels :DIts design has resemblance to the Sony V300A.

thanks po
when wathcing cable channels, pag sa channel 2, may black vertical line sa pinaka left side nya, parang hindi nya napupuno yung screen, about 5 other more channels ang ganito and approx 3/4 inch ang nao-occupy nya pero apg channel 7 fit sya sa buong screen.
ano kaya ito?

My 42pv70 works fine as well, even sa cable viewing...
hindi kaya sa setting lang? ilang channels lang naman, yung buong left side nya, from top to bottom approx 3/4 inch black, tapos parang may static. but other channels, perfect.
thanks!
before, approx 5 to 7 channels lang ang affected, ngayon, 2 channels na lang ata sa entire line up ang walang problema.helo sir suggestion lng. If you have a cable box, try to use it. Lipat mu muna yung cable mu and see if there will be changes. If its just the same perhaps yun cable provider mu may problema not the plasma itself. Kung maayos naman thru cable box perhaps the tuner of the plasma ang distorted.

si 50"?
Finally got to see this unit in action. Ang ganda pala talaga nito. Sulit ang bumili. Talagang sayang lang at di kasya sa kuwarto namin.have it wall hanged para makatipid k ng space at para ala picture frame ang dating. Buy kna kay Boss Vic (E-REPLY) maganda magbigay ng presyo yan i've known him since his raon days pa at ngayon BIG TIME na sya di pa rin nagbabago ugali nyan very helpful, friendly and cosiderable pa sa mga customers and friends nya.
Waaaahhhhh....few units left. Sana meron pa by the time na meron na budget to buy.Dont worry bro the longer u can wait the better it gets and by then, prices will be a lot cheaper. A few months ago, the prices of 32" flat panel is the price of 40" flat panel now. I'm sure wait a few more months, the price of a 40" flat panel now will be the price of a 46" flat panel then. Just be patient.

The model is being phased out already. Only units left are Panasonic Phil units. SRP 79,950 :o :o :o. The 52k models are the grey market units (bumbai). These may soon be harder to come by, my source tell me that Panasonic Phil will be going after any AV stores that would sell grey market units. Hopefully di sana mangyari. Also the newer models (PV80 and PY800) will initially be sold high and will eventually go down in time, maybe next year... :P :P :P
So the 52k 42pv70 are not from Panasonic Phils.? Kanino ang warranty?Warranty is usually from the store where you purchased the unit not directly from Panasonic Phil.
Bought this unit yesterday at Sights and Sounds after my wife agreed when she noticed the big difference in picture quality compared to LCDs. Delivered this afternoon and started breaking in already, hopefully complete the needed 100 hours in a week. Thanks to you Sir Vic, also for considering my feedback. :)
TO 42pv70 owners,
guys naexperience nyo na ba while watching tv nagreset yun tv nyo? akalo ko nung una nagstandby mode sya pero nagreset sya. Is there something wrong with my tv? Twice ko na naexperience ito.

first check ur AVR bka yun ang may problema otherwise its the power supply of the unit itself.
The 42pv70 is on sale at Ambassador Appliance in Shang - PhP 49,900 .... saw this earlier after visiting S&S. I'm in the hunt for a 37-inch LCD, but at price below 50k, this is tempting .... mas lower kaya kay Sir Nemesis and E-Reply???
E-Reply / Nemesis:
May available bang panasonic plasma model na ganito locally?
From Panasonic Singapore --- VIERA TH-37PV70H

May I ask for a price qoute for 37inch models? Thanks

i got my plasma na rin :D
my wife surprise me the other day, im not sure anong store nya binili, tinago nya yung receipt para daw di ko alam ang exact price :D
although she knows na i wanted to go sa shang to look for one.
anyway, i like the pq saka 42 is definitely bigger than 37, the only thing na i was dissapointed di nya kayang mag accept ng 1080p using the component input, well i have no choice but to buy a new xbox360, wala kasing hdmi out yung mga unang 360, although pq sa 1080i and 720p is more than ok naman.
pwede po ba pa pm ng "how to break in" instruction kung meron kayo. thanks in advance.

Plasma for HTPC
@Panasonic 42PV70 / LG 32" Plasma TV owners
Same din ba desktop area or mas konti? Malinaw rin ba for HTPC lalo na sa texts yung Panasonic 42PV70 kahit hindi 1:1 pixel mapping/aspect ratio nya (1:1.33)?
Pixel Mapping Explained: http://pixelmapping.wikispaces.com/Pixel+mapping+explained (http://pixelmapping.wikispaces.com/Pixel+mapping+explained)
I hope somebody could explain for the benefit of others who are also interested on getting a Plasma for HTPC display.
Thanks in advance! =)
I'm also planning to use the Panasonic TH-42PV70 for HTPC use, as soon as I get my TV I'll try to post some pics for everyone's benefit :)
The Panasonic has a resolution of 1024x768, but since it uses rectangular pixels, it can show the image in widescreen format. This makes me believe that displaying a static image (like a word document) on the TH-42PV70 will show a slightly stretched image because of the rectangular pixels. However, I'm not really sure of this because I believe the Viera engine is supposed to extrapolate the image to the native resolution so that the image looks "normal". The best way to determine is to take actual pictures or have E-Reply or Nemesis91 set a demo for you. Bring a notebook or your HTPC as well :)
This also might be the reason why some people in other forums prefer getting the 50" inch model over the 42" model because of the more native 1366x768 resolution.
there was a post by nemesis about htpc connected to a 42pv70 and the results were not good. he labelled it as "kalat" ang fonts. the 50 incher are better daw kasyi true 720p resolution panel

Bos Jeff, thanks for reserving a 42PV70 for me and for the reasonable rate of shipment to Davao! Can't wait for the unit to be delivered. Ako po si RJ na may brother-in-law rin na RJ. Next time po ulit! At sana mag-open kayo ng shop dito sa Davao, pwede kayong joint venture nila Victor Tan. ;)
Mga sirs,
May nag ooffer pa ba ng panasonic 42pv70? May stock pa ba nito sir nemesis / e-reply?

thanks a lot!
You can buy a p****** version of this (regular dvd copied from the original blu-ray) and it has a very good pq. Its title is Exotic Saltwater Aquarium by HDscape
i am now officially an owner of this tv as well..
thanks mr. jeff! very happy with it! :D

kapalit ng 42pv70 = 42pv8 > 15,000 contrast ratio >1,000,000 dynamic contrast
> 2 hdmi input > swivel stand. ;)
magkaron kaya ng bagong thread na " Panasonic 42pv80 Rocks!!!"?...lets see :D
how much naman kaya pv80
hello mga kapatid, nakabili na kami ng Panasonic 42pv70H nung sunday. panalo talaga tong unit na to! binili namin sa Sights & Sounds. ok talaga si sir Vic. may malasakit sa tao. salamat sa yo, sir Vic, and thank you din Hazel. i am looking forward for an end to the break-in period, and for the calibration. thanks & God bless. :)
whenever i turn my dvd on, ang lumalabas is 576p sya, tapos mag nag start n yung disc, it changes to 480p, sorry for my ignorance, meron pa sa setting ng pv70 na pwede ichange to 720p or anything aside from 480p/i?
tia!

yes tried to fine tune it too... thanks
i'm contemplating on getting this tv, but i'm really scared of possible burn in problems.
i know it is not as big of a problem as it was before, lalo na when i finish the break-in period.
pero gusto ko lng malaman kung meron ba ditong nakaexperience ng ganitong problem with this particular model?
if for example, i watched a single channel for 4 hours straight hours, will that immediately cause a burn -in of the networks static logo? if so, does it ever go away?
3 1/2 months na sakin yung unit ko, and kanina was the 3rd time na naexperience ko na bigla na lang nag OFF yung tv, hindi sya naka sleep, walang gumagalaw ng remote, hindi naman nagbrownout, wala naman atang fluctuation sa kuryente kasi sya lang ang naapektuhan, bukas ang ilaw, ang speakers kasi nanunuod ako ng concert ng Dream theater, 3rd time na. ano kaya to? :'(
I suggest contacting your dealer to let them diagnose the problem. :)

I have also experience the same. Pinacheck mo na ba sayo? Bro, what is the diagnose? may sira ba ito?
talga bro? ive told the vic and he said he can replace it anytime. sabihan mo na yung seller, para mapalitan.
meron ba kayo naririnig na nagki-click na sound galing sa likod? i hear it like every 10mins......medyo malakas din eh.

wala naman akong naexperience na ganyan.
everytime ba na nanonood ka meron every 10 mins? natry mo na ba i power off unplugged then plug mo ulit and on kung meron pa rin
It could be the TV's plastic casing, which could be making clicking sounds on its joints whenever the casing expands/contracts due to temperature changes.
The famous Bruzzi says there's a felt kit (original parts from Panasonic) that solves the problem:
http://www.bruzziforum.com/vbf/showthread.php?t=20
yes, and it is persistent. basta whenever I use it, lkike every 10mins meron nun, and it is very noticeable.
Hi anchit,...
How's your plasma..?
Pag may tumutunog sa likod ng unit mo, does it have an effect on the TV's picture...?
Or parang tunog na may pumitik sa plastic casing...?
Benedict
Hi bro,i guess the kit could help you with yer issue :D
Nope, no effect on the picture, just an anooying clicking sound na hindi mo mamimiss kahit malakas ang audio.
Francis
i guess the kit could he you with yer issue :D
baka nga. Pero bakit sa iba hindi sya nangyayari? o dapat your unit should be in an airconditioned room para walang ganito.
I have also experience the same. Pinacheck mo na ba sayo? Bro, what is the diagnose? may sira ba ito?
Since the 42PV70 is still a fairly new model, you people should take advantage of the warranty. Let the dealer/s know about this problem so they may fix/change the unit. Malaking investment yan so don't let the clicking annoying sound drive you crazy. Don't try to fix the problem yourselves and let the authorize dealer/s do this for you.
You might want to change the subject to Panasonic 42PV70H Clicks! ;D jk
Strange thing happened while watchin dvd movie last night.
All of a sudden the color of my pana 42pv70H turned pink. i don't know what to do. after about 6 seconds
i decided to turn off the plasma and switched it back after 3 seconds. Walla video back to normal
in full colors. btw, the first time this happened was about a month ago. Should i panic?
pdvd members i welcome ur advice.
Attn: Sir Jeff/Nemesis i would appreciate ur expert comment. Tnx.
TWE w/o.r. #243 dated 3/27/08 (same night, my son bought also a 32" LG PLASMA if u wud recall)
Added info: i use pio dv 600av and STAVOL SVC 500 NM (dedicated for plasma & pio dvd plyr use only.)
white pana HDMI cables. TYVM.
i love it when it doubles as a heater! that thing is a power hog!
minor annoyances:
no "previous channel" button.
no PIP!
sucky remote control IR. can't bounce off walls/floor.
this happens sometimes .. mapa-lcdtv, plasma even on a crt tv .. dont know the reason pero ive seen this occur and a simple on and off works ..
pv70 users what is the longest time na ginamit nyo yun tv as desktop pc monitor? kumusta naman ang image retention nawala ba agad?
ganito ba talaga sakit ng PV70? Have experienced the same problem several times already but I thought power flactuation lang but my unit is connected to a UPS which is attached to a surge protector before the wall outlet so it could not have been power flactuation.
First time I experienced the problem was when the unit was around 3 months. It went off couple of times while watching a tv program. But recently around 2 months ago, the "powering off" happens more frequently. Yesterday it happened once and then just this morning another occurrence. What usually happens is that the tv suddenly turns off and the power led indicator (in red) blinks repeatedly. What could be wrong?
Sir Vic, can you please send someone over to check my unit. My contact numbers: 0921-3494009 and 0916-2575415. Btw, I bought my unit last January 31, 2008.
Common TV problem yan.well technically speaking this does not cost a lot, correct me if im wrong barrister :)
It's usually the power board, several defective capacitors have to be replaced.

Repairs lang ng old CRT ang basis ko, ewan ko lang sa plasma. :(at this point its really handy to have a friend who are into these stuff .. :(
Pero mura lang nga yan, kung palit-capacitors lang. Pero yung ibang service centers, pinapalitan ang buong power board, yun ang medyo mahal.

Hi PDVD Folks,
I've had my 50pv70 since May. Upon bringing the plasma home, since my room is pitch black dark with the blinds closed, I have noticed that the blacks are not as black as I expected them to be (previously using a Wide CRT). This is similar to Sir Gogo's experience with a higher end Panny http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=60748.msg805657#msg805657 (http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=60748.msg805657#msg805657). I sent PM's to PDVD "guru's" using the same model series, and most of them replied that I should not to expect the same black levels even with plasmas - plus work kept me so busy for the last couple of months. The plasma was then used for daily TV viewing, so I was not conscious on how blacks appear on regular broadcast.
I have been on leave from work and have been viewing movies lately using the 50pv70 - and have been a bit irked with the black levels. Moreover, when viewing movies with dark scenes, the black levels (in my case, grayish) have been fluctuating in these scenes. Sa tagalog, parang "tumitibok" pag dark scenes. You would notice that all of the blacks are getting lighter/darker at random, including the black top and bottom bars. This is only evident with dark scenes.
But for brightly lit scenes, the 50PV70 blacks are very ok and colors are crisp and vivid. Turning on the room lights make this phenomenon not so much noticeable.
Have tried most adjustments possible (brightness, between from dynamic, standard, cinema, factory reset),component and HDMI cables, PS3 and upscaling DVD sources - but to no avail.
Have bumped into Sir Otepsy's post re: black level fluctuation http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=68273.msg789047#msg789047 (http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=68273.msg789047#msg789047) and it seems that I may have the same experience. The thing is, perception is very relative and I don't know if I am noticing a valid fault or I am being too critical about it. I also would like to avoid much trouble of bringing my plasma to my supplier already as it is quite a long drive from my place (Laguna) and the thing barely fits my CUV.
Anybody who owns a PV70 from nearby and would like to give an opinion regarding my TV one of these weekends? Beer is on me. ;) Please PM if interested. Thanks in anticipation.
does this also suggest that, it could be the source thats causing this? or the source triggers this?
Sir ganun yata talaga eh from my experience yung una ko pv70 (yun yung re black level flactuation) i told my seller about it and pinalitan naman kaagad ng bago pv70, nawala na yung flactuations, then ngayon medyo may nakikita na naman ako pero pero hindi kasing lala nung una, hinahayaan ko na lang kasi baka magalit na yung wife ko at dukutin na yung mata ko. hehehe... pero sa totoo lang meron pa rin yung bagong ipinalit pero hindi kasing worse nung nauna, ewan ko lang pag nacalibrate na, yung first pv70 ko kasi calibrated na sya pero nagflactuate pa rin, pag nacalibrate tong pv70 ko ngayon balitaan kita kung ganun pa rin...
note: mas madalas sa concert dami flactuations.

I have not done in-depth research regarding this, but am speculating the problem may be a cross between an inherent plasma hardware limitation or its adaptive brightness firmware algo implementation (e.g. Panny's AI, Pio's i-Clear).
Or, I may be unlucky to have a marginally bad unit or my eyes are bad ;)

Hitachi Australia seems to have a fix for the 8800 via service menu. Page 6 of the linked DTV Forum thread says:
Hey everyone,
Hitachi service agent - Probe - came out tonight and fixed the problem.
All the guy did was get into the service menu (you can find out how to do this from other posts in the forum) and altered service item number 275. The value was 0 and this was changed to 1.
That simple. Seems to have resolved the issue from the brief 5 mins of testing I did afterwards.
Just letting you all know in case some of you who are more adventurous wish to get in and do the change yourself.
Whoever has the service manual can perhaps tell us all what option 275 is?
I have a feeling that a service menu adjustment is the correct solution.
I checked the link. No confirmation yet for any PV70 or PX70 users. :(its a good thing barrister has a talent in doing research .. :)
guys - ok lang ba upgrade from sammy 32" (32s81) to panny 42" (42pv70h)?

btw, am using 780g chipset pala for my HTPC.. sa ATI control panel ba i-aadjust yun? or sa tv itself?
tnx.
question ko lang is di nakasagad yung picture when playing movies thru HDMI (half-inch siguro both sides), pero pag TV/Cable, sagad naman.. panu kaya i-adjust to?
was able to fill the full screen by enabling overscan in the ATI control panel..youre using 780g, right?
ano diagnose sa tv mo? ano sira? pinalitan ba?
I have been so busy the past few weeks I barely had time to watch TV much less bring the tv to the seller. Anyway, I have already contacted sir Vic about this couple of months back and he promised to pull my tv out and replace it with a service unit while they observe/diagnose the PV70. Will try to have it scheduled for pick up this week if my time allows.
Tama malapit na mag lapse warranty ko di ko napapansin. Will post whatever will be the findings.
Thanks.
Up ko lang 'to. Sir Bhongskie, any update on the findings of your PV70?
By the way, our 42PV70 started showing some problem as well. My wife told me that at around 30 mins. or so after turning on the TV it will start showing blank (black) screen then back again with distorted images and colors. She first noticed it just a week ago while my son is playing PS3 using PV70 as display. My initial impression was loose connection lang yan, so I ask them to check all the connections (wala ako sa 'pinas so I could'nt check it myself). After checking everything, I ask them to test the unit using different sources DVD, PS3 and cable tv, but the problem remains. Pwede kya iyon?
By the way, the TV is connected to a surge protector which is then connected to a voltage regulator.
You can have your wife call the shop or my cell for us to assist you.

Mine is now showing 2 straight lines from top to bottom at the right side of the screen. Initially, 1 line lang and nawawala pag turn off ko unit then turn on after around 5 minutes. Very rare naman mangyari dati, but now permanent na and naging 2 lines na. I don't know what it is, minsan parang black yung color pero minsan blue or violet, basta parang glowing.how old is the unit bro?
I already called Sir Vic and hopefully ma-pullout this weekend.
how old is the unit bro?\
\
1 yr. 5 mos.
Whoa...
That is fairly new still bro...
Hope maayos yan, besides it is still under store warranty...

ano po pinagkaiba ng pv70mt sa ibang pv70?iirc region/country code yung last 2 characters. thailand yata yung pv70mt iinm.
This is a landmark Panny Plasma which opened so many eyes in SD and HD viewing without breaking the bank! My unit and both my sister's units are playing immaculately!you could not have stated it better doc!

I think the scratch is not repairable. Mine got a minimal scratch because the screen was hit accidentaly by a falling figurine. The scratch is not visible unless you go very near the screen to find it. I tried carefully to wipe it out using different cleaners but it was not removed. Out of curiousity, I called Pana Phils and asked for solution, I was told that the scratch cannot be removed by home remedy alone. They told me that the front glass panel can be replaced for P18,000 and I dont need to send my PV70 to them, they can do the replacement right in our house! For now, i just ignore the scratch; anyway it is not visible in my viewing area. ;D ;Dang mahal pala.. buti na nga lang di kita :D
mine is already 4 years old and still rocking! how about yours?sulit na sulit bro!

still alive and working perfectly. Going 7 years na ata itong unit ko.
Still working.....2019 na
After 12 long years of service my PV70 began to show symptoms of power supply failure. Sometime it turns on and sometimes it just refuses to do so. Finally we are under GCQ and its now being repaired. hopefully the repair bill will be reasonable

Who is the repair guy? :)
Power supply is the culprit. Cost of repair and parts would be around 5K. having second thoughts in repairing a 12 year old TV since I wont even have assurance that it will last a year or two without any of the other parts breaking down.
Update...2 months in and wala pa daw parts. Hirap daw sila import yung parts due to lockdown.
Guys,
Is Sight and Sounds able to repair the Pana 42PV70H? Bought mine from them way back 2008 but is now busted. The TV changes channels/sources all by itself. It's like the remote is acting on it's own without me pressing any of the buttons :)

Bro my old CRT TV exhibited this same issue. Spray lang pala ng contact cleaner sa + and - channel buttons and it did the trick.
I believe Sights and Sounds closed shop already.....
Looking for a replacement remote control.
Appreciate any leads.
Thanks!
