***  03/05/2010 - Watch out for the eTRAYz + Xtreamer Summer Bundle on PinoyDVD ***

The perfect companion for
your Media Player

What follows is pretty long... but quite interesting.

Excerpts from the Xtreamer Official Forum (forum.xtreamer.net (http://forum.xtreamer.net))
(with some minor editing to improve readability)

We find that a true, comprehensive solution to your media streaming/sharing needs cannot be met if only based on a limited-power, embedded RTL solution that is not optimized for networking. More than once, we read your requests for powerful apps that necessarily consume a very big amount of CPU power and necessitates the device to stay in idle mode (and therefore heat up). We believe that without a powerful network-based solution that will allow you the power, freedom and features you may require, it will be very hard to get the maximum power out of your Xtreamer. The problem was you had to pay 200 or more euro for a NAS solution that was not necessarily optimized for your Xtreamer.

We proudly introduce you to the Xtreamer eTRAYz - an affordable 2-Bay, up to 4 Terabyte solution that incorporates a very small, ultra compact solution with a price that will result in you being able to enjoy both worlds of NAS and HD media playback at less than the price of one alternative Media player. Each solution of course can stand on its own.

I've just indicated an estimated price at the bottom of the first post.

From the big boss at Xtreamer:
eTRAYz has been designed for Xtreamer media player customers only.

But he also stated:
It is a fully functional stand alone device that has similar functionalities to any Qnap or Synology (NAS).

I'll give him a buzz to get more info.

As long as it's fully functional just like any NAS I think that would be fine.  :) I wonder what special features  it will have that will work with the xtreamer only. ...

Even Xtreamer owners would prefer compatibility with other NMTs since some might own older NMTs that would also have to access this.  But if its like QNAP or Synology it should be ok.

General consensus in the Xtreamer Live Chat is that the eTRAYz should work fine with other media players.

It does make sense.  Xtreamer would not lock itself out of the market by tying the eTRAYz to just one media player.

Nice GUI! May tentative date na ba pagdating dito sa Pinas?

Regarding the pix size, I think the site has a limit to the pix being displayed, just right click and "View image" should show the pix in full resolution.

Galing ng right-click and "view image"!  I would never have thought of that! :o

No shipping sked from the manufacturer yet - should be this November though, because the IP cameras (for surveillance) are slated for release in December.

eTRAYz will be available in the Philippines if there is sufficient interest in it.

Hi - we are now negotiating prices with the manufacturer.  If we place an order they ship out sometime end of November.  Which means available here around 2nd week of December.

As far as other IP Cams are concerned, alam ko nade-detect din ang Axis at Axis-compatible cameras.  Not sure yet about other brands/models.

No problem sa mga tanong... if you send me your email address, I can send you a brochure for eTRAYz

do you think we can take advantage of the euro 59 offer (for a limited time and provided we can prove we have purchased an xtreamer already) ?

Unfortunately, the answer is no.  They only offer that to customers who pay the full Retail Price.  So the Xtreamer purchase over the internet is subsidizing the subsequent eTRAYz purchase.

We are already taking advantage of wholesale discounts which are being passed on to everybody.  The manufacturer would lose money if they offered eTRAYz to us at EUR 59 each.

Is the 4TB the max limit for eTrayz? Will I be able to install larger capacity drives, maybe 2.5TB and 4TB drives when they become available? If I by more than one, can I daisy chain them to act as one 4-Bay or 6-Bay NAS?

It's difficult to speculate on support for drives that still don't exist. That being said, eTRAYz firmware is updatable so theoretically, the manufacturer can add support for new hardware.

You cannot physically "daisy-chain" them.

We have to be patient.  The next firmware revision is coming in about a week, I think.  Hopefully, this will solve major bugs and improve performance.

This is a product that needs to grow up very quickly.

A review hmmm....Impression.... ;D

Let me  just share my experience.

I had my etrayz before xmass since dec. I ordered it via extreamer website and they had it shipped here. My landed cost wa arount 9k plus. Im using a 2tb caviar greenWD hard drive. Have i known there would be a problem with its LCC count i would have not purchased it, (Got it thru amazon had it shpped here). I'm in the process of controlling the LCC count as of know. Anways.....

This is my first NAS so i did not know what to expect. I'm not good with computers. I just like new gadgets to play with hehehe...

1. First i installed both hd's to the slot. So that I could set up the disks. it only read slot b at the start. I just played around with it interchanging slots until it read both slots. Then proceeded to set up.

2. i had trouble with setting up my email to work. And for me to access it thru the internet.
I had to call my brother-in law to help me out with the settings. Router and NAS port configuration etc.....(all of this are alien to me...hhehehe)

3. But now its working already. I can share folders already. But there seems to be a 2gig limitation on sharing and uploading via the web browser. I thought i could share movie files over 2gig over the net but cant because of the 2gig limit.

4. i could stream movies via wired lan from router. but wireless streaming is a bit slow. it depends on your range/distance from the router and if its a 720 or 1080 movie.

5. copying files or movies to the nas is quite slow. 100 gig of movies takes me around 7hrs...i have more than 2tb i want to upload....its taking me forever.

I'm not really good at writing. So if you want to know more just ask. And ill try to answer your question.

At the moment cant say i'm Happy or disappointed.
As i said i did not know what to expect.  :)

Cheers,

am also a not very knowledgeable in this nas thing, maybe you can share settings if possible, or are these settings different per unit.

is this the rapidshare like gateway they are talking about? hope the limit can be increase on the next firmware.

did you use usb in transferring files or you are referring to transferring via wireless? would using direct lan connection improve the speed?

1. how is the overall build of the machine itself?
Very nice and compact. The fan is kinda noisy. The face/cover of the Nas is made of plastic. Sana aloy din. and there are no locks on the NAS. Pano pag wala ka. may nag trip ninakaw HD's mo eh mas mahal yun...LOL
Lights are very bright.

2. am also a not very knowledgeable in this nas thing, maybe you can share settings if possible, or are these settings different per unit.

uh...Baka pareho sa lahat ng unit. Or depends also on the router you use. kasi parang pinag tugma tugma ung mga ports atbp....  Para makapag communicate ung NAS and router and PC...

3. is this the rapidshare like gateway they are talking about? hope the limit can be increase on the next firmware.
I have not used the rapid share thing since i dont know what it is..heheheh...still experimenting.
I was talking about when you have a movie file. You click on it and you have an option to share it with a friend. The nas sends out a email with a link on it so that your friend can download it directly.
Or thes is another option you give your frind a user accoount and he can access the nas via internet. From there he can access shared public folders, from there he can download what is inside the folder.

5. did you use usb in transferring files or you are referring to transferring via wireless? would using direct lan connection improve the speed?

i used a usb connected to my pc going to wired lan to NAS.
I tried using usb copy option of the NAS but it doesent work for me. Maybe the file was to big again. Since i connected my 1tb drive. Have not tried copying with a small file. Will try asap.
I also tried copying using the extramer as the bridge but no good.

Hope this helps.....

Did you used a fresh blank HDD(not yet formatted HDD)? Did the etrayz formatted your HDD to xfs file system?

And for me to access it thru the internet.

if a brand new 2tb caviar hd is blank then yes i used a fresh blank hdd.
regarding etrayz formatting your hdd. I thinks so. coz when i was setting it up and there was a page where it sad formatting disks....it took around 3 mins to format.

and one more experience: When i was playing around with the nas. for some reason our house electricity tripped. therefore cutting the electricity to the nas. (did not have a ups at the time). When the electricty went back on. i could not access the nas already. apparently when the electricity tripped the nas or the router changes ip address. w/c i did not know at the time.  So i was in panic mode for days. To acces the nas again what i did was reformatted both my discs via my mac. so that i will have a clean disk. And set it up again. Until my brother in law told me its just natural for the ip address to change when theres a power outage. From there he set up my NAS again. now its working fine.

based on the specs of etrayz, it uses jdownloader engine ... it is what i'm using regularly for downloading from megaupload, rapidshare, and the likes on my pc ... it doesn't need seeders and maintains the speed at the max level of the internet connection...maybe you should try it to verify the download performance without relying on seeders

I have a single Synology NAS & what I've noticed too is that the download manager speed from torrents or rapidshare is still not on par with the pcs dl speed.  I only get around 70kb/s compared to my pcs 240-250 kb/s. I also tried portforwarding and tweaking my router's settings but to no avail. I read in the forums that a lot are really experiencing this with no concrete solution to a faster dl speed.

To connect using Mac (OS X Tiger):
1.  Open Finder 'Go' > 'Connect to Server"
2.  Enter server address (e.g. smb://etrayz.ip.address/public)

For Windows and Mac users alike, here are the share names:

e-TRAYz Disk via \\etrayz.ip.address\sysadmin .. sysadmin's password will be requested
Private Disk(s) via \\etrayz.ip.address\[username] .. username's password will be requested

I don't think so...

Can you check out what the firmware version is on your eTRAYz, as received?  Be careful that you don't mistake the software installer version number for the firmware.

Post by: Bitstream on Feb 24, 2010 at 11:41 AM
To access a folder in the eTRAYz Disk (private area of 'sysadmin')
that he/she has granted you access to;

and/or to access a shared folder in the Public area, when username
and password are required to access the Public area

Connect to the following servers:

For Mac Users:
\\etrayz.ip.address\etrayz   ..enter username and password

For WindowsXP Users:
smb://etrayz.ip.address/etrayz   ..enter username and password

Two folders will show on this server:

e_foldername  <Folder on eTRAYz Disk, shared out by sysadmin>

p_foldername  <Folder on Public, shared out by sysadmin>

There's already an 1.0.4 official firmware sir, you might want to download that also.

I have so far been able to try the rapidbox(sent Onkyo606 a link to download a file from my Etrayz).

Also, I am currently downloading torrents via E-torrent in both public and private trackers. So far so good, only gripe though is you can't see the DL speed of the torrents.

when we update the firmware, our data gets deleted?

I downloaded the binary one - not the zipped.  I downloaded 1.0.3 directly to the etrayz eDownload folder.  Then upgraded the firmware from there.  No formatting was necessary.

I think it's the zipped version that will perform a full installation of everything including reformatting of the drives.

I'll check the 1.0.3 firmware first before I decide whether to upgrade to 1.0.4.  I think you can't upgrade directly from 1.0.0 to 1.0.4. since the latter is a minor update according to the site.

I think there are two options provided by xtreamer, 1 is an upgrade option(supposedly will not delete existing data) and the other is the full installation(zip file).
What I did was the full installation since I dont have any data yet on the drive.

Guys, be very careful.  There is a misconception that "Xtreamer Admin" cleared up for me just yesterday.  I too was confused and needed a few emails to get straightened out.

The firmware shipped with our batch of Xtreamers is the LATEST VERSION.  What we are downloading are software packages containing utilities, etc.

So Ver. 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 downloads are software packages and bug fixes, etc.  There may be a component somewhere in there that actually upgrades the firmware... but as-shipped, our e-TRAYz already have the latest firmware.  Xtreamer Admin called the factory to double-check and make sure we got the latest... and he confirms that we did.

Hope that's clear!

Software packages (e.g. Ver 1.0.3 and Ver 1.0.4) are available as
full-install packages (zip files) or as patch files (.bin).

A full-install package WILL WIPE OUT YOUR HARD DRIVE, so be
sure to back-up first if you want to perform a "clean install".

A patch file will upgrade your software package (and firmware,
if necessary) without erasing the content of your hard drives.

So does that mean that the software packages (ver 1.0.3 and ver 1.0.4) contain both the software and firmware update? Also, how can we differentiate the firmware version with the software package version?

In etrayz web gui, I can see the ff: Firmware Version     Ver.1.0.4-official

I'm guessing that the answer is 'yes'.  Sometimes, it's not easy to understand "Xtreamer Admin" because of the language barrier.  Here is what he said (in italics):

dear Eric
hi

this is right new frimware

this 1.0.3 is upgrade patch for installer ( software )

so,, need to use CD install software,, sure,, this is first time install ,, so, should format HDD and installing

and then need to use upgrade menu in setup UI,, and update to 1.0.3 program,,(softeware)
it no need to format HDD and etc

reconfirm

looks you misunderstood
i check factory ,, correct new firmare shipment

what now you talking is software ( program in CD)

and need to use this CD for install and need to use upgrade bin file for update

if, don;t want,, should use 1.0.3 new one time installation file, not upgrade bin  file

^ I see, based from that email, it really is hard to fully grasp the meaning.

I will try to install the rtorrent front end tonight. Based from the xtreamer forum, it is similar to utorrent UI.

haven't read up yet on torrent clients.  Is rtorrent getting better reviews than Transmission?

Since rTorrent has a similar interface/UI with utorrent, its better for me :) Haven't tried transmission yet though. I have successfully added rtorrent in my etrayz and its way better than the built in e-torrent UI ;)

download speeds: Ony my PC I average 165kbps, using rtorrent(see pix) I also average the same.

set up my etrayz, works ok.  but i can't get the wifi antenna to work with it. any thoughts?

with the etrayz connected to the router, i connected the usb wifi antenna, go to settings, and click on wireless, it sees the usb antenna, but when i encode the security and stuff, then press apply, the page loads but when its done, and i try to connect to the main page again, it just loads without the page coming out.

i have to power off the etrayz, disconnect the wifi antenna, using the ethernet, i am able to connect to the etrayz again.  :(

The eTRAYz is connected to the router by cable, and the wi-fi antenna at the same time?

yes, eric. because if i did not connect it through ethernet, and i turn on the etrayz, i can go into the etrayz web. or is there a way. thanks.

what i want to do is the etrayz is connected to the network through wifi, but my xtreamer is connected to the etrayz via ethernet for media, so that streaming will be more stable. at the same time with this set up, i can have both etrayz and xtreamer on my av rack.

I believe the eTRAYz network driver can address either the ethernet port or the USB Wi-fi N Antenna, but not both simultaneously.

Personally, I would use Ethernet cable from the route to the eTRAYz; this will provide the best throughput to all networked devices in your home (not only the Xtreamer).

You're an advanced user - I doubt you'll be happy using wi-fi to hook up either the Xtreamer or the eTRAYz to your LAN.

My initial impressions -

I've setup my eTrayz and upgraded to 1.04, but still in the discovering stage on what functions i can decide to use ... following are what i have done working/impressions so far -

1. PC file sharing works excellently - i have all my PC's on wireless-N, and the TVIX and eTrayz are wired (Cat6) on Gigabit Ethernet to my Linksys router
2. Video streaming to my TVIX works flawlessly like having an internal disk - Gigabit Ethernet works
3. Speed of eDownloader and rTorrent are the same as when i'm using my PC, but eDownloader is not at par with Jdownloader as advertised (no where near the features of Jdownloader) ... torrent downloader is passable

One main thing that I can say is that this device is not for non-techie ... you would need some knowledge on Unix/Linux to do the tweaks ... this is probably the reason why there were a lot of complaints in the eTrayz forum ... it's looking good so far on my end - still have a lot of research to make the other functions work however

I tried setting up the etrayz earlier.  I connected the etrayz to my router via LAN and when I ran the CD to install it, my PC cannot detect the etrayz.  I then tried connecting the PC directly to the etrayz via LAN cable and luckily it was detected.  So I tried setting it up but my problem is when there is a need to access the net such as the email client, I dunno how to go about this coz the present setup doesnt have internet access.I tried reconnecting the etrayz to my router again but again it cannot be detected. Any help? TIA

sir, set up with direct connection (etrayz-pc) but skip on the email client part. after rebooting the etrayz, connect it to the router and access it via http://etrayzipaddress:8080 on your pc, you should be at etrayz homepage and you can continue setting up the email client.

something wierd happened. i turned off my modem, router and the etrayz, and when i turn them on. i cant connect to my etrayz! i was about to reformat the whole thing when even the set up cant detect my etrayz. i was about to panic when i notice the ip address that the set-up detected was not the same as the ip address originally assigned to the etrayz. i entered the new ip address into the browser and oila. i go connected. can someone explain to me what happened here? does it mean i cant shut down my router and modem or else it will keep assigning the etrayz with new ip address?

hope someone can explain this to me so it wont happen again.  :P

but at the same time, i was able to connect to the etrayz with the e-connector. pretty cool. and i have already set-up my xtreamer too. and it saw the etrayz right away. pretty neat. played a couple of short movie scenes, and the xtreamer streamed the scenes without stutters. all my movies are in 720p and my router is a 11g router. hope all movies will stream like i have encountered, then i think i have found my perfect combo!

My guess is that since DHCP is it re-assigned another IP address to your Etrayz. You might opt to set Static DHCP if it is supported by the router(Static DHCP -Static DHCP is used to allow DHCP server to assign same IP to specific MAC address. ).

RIght now Im having stability issues with rtorrent, I finished downloading an 8GB file and upon playing the file is corrupted :( Haven't encountered this with my htpc.

Hi Guys,

Perhaps it's with my setup but I noticed that I when I watch HD movies, I always have momentary stops during playback when I select eTrayz as my source.  But when I use the NET source, I just login my ID in eTrayz and the playback is smooth.

I'm wonder if I should change my router to Gigabit N.  Right now I"m using a Router G with 100Mbps connection.

Any of you guys encountered this?

yup, the ISP speed is maximized. Although, meron pa ring prob sa pagdownload ng torrents. Yung unang torrent ay 4GB na  file, nung natapos madownload corrupted yung file(hindi playable). Yung pangalawa naman divided into multiple rar files. After matapos yung download, pagka unrar ko ok naman, nagplay sa htpc ko.

A patch file will upgrade your software package (and firmware,
if necessary) without erasing the content of your hard drives.

thanks for this.

Not a bummer, DYC - that is the latest firmware version.

my problem is when installing the cd the computer was able to detect the etryz.
It's great that the e-TRAYz was detected.  Why is it a problem?

after downloading the v1.0.4, I tried to reinstall it again but It cant be detected over the network. kaya hindi ko tuloy ma install.
What did you download - the "full install" or the patch file to upgrade?  If you downloaded the 1.0.4 patch, there was a warning that said you should have v1.0.3 software installed on e-TRAYz before upgrading.  Am I correct in assuming that you didn't have v1.0.3 software installed first?

It said sa manual that I can conenct it directly to the computer. Im not sure how. 've tried to connect it directly via USB. pero nothing happens. Parang wala lang.
I haven't tried this - but did the manual say connect by USB or by Ethernet?  But don't bother trying.  It won't work if the e-TRAYz OS has been mangled.

Maybe someone can help me cause im not a techie guy. akala ko kasi simple lang itong etrayz plug and play lang parang external HD lang. medyo mahirap pala gamitin. please help para magamit ko na. :)
Setting up a NAS isn't a walk in the park.  Need to be patient, read the manual, pay attention to instructions and warnings while installing and browse the forums for additional insights on how best to proceed.

If you corrupted your e-TRAYz operating system due to a wrong update procedure, it can't be detected on the network.  Remove the drive in Bay A, format it using your PC (NTFS is ok) just to wipe out whatever is on it. Re-install it in the e-TRAYz.  Start installing from the CD again, as if you have a fresh HDD... it should be detected by the Installer now.  Why don't you do a "clean install" by downloading the full ver 1.0.4 software package?

Hope this helps

probable reason for not being able to detect is that it is by default set to dhcp, the ip address may have changed after the reset - you need to try other address

regarding direct PC connection, you need to connect it via LAN port, but you will be needing a cross-cable, not the cable that came with it

Finally was able to setup my eTrayz, after several days of frustration.  Very fulfilling indeed.

Anyway, just to share my experience.  My original problem was the eTrayz was not detected on the network (connected to router) and even on directly connecting it to the computer.

To diagnose the problem, I followed the steps below:

1.  Remove the HDD from the eTrayz and boot the device.  eTrayz was detected successfully in the network.  However, when I install the HDD and ran the installation program.  IT was a no Go.

2.  Reformatted the HDD to NTFS in my windows machine and reinstalled it back to the eTrayz.  Back to the original problem wheren the eTrayz was not successfully detected.

3.  The third step that I did was to go to ramdisk mode (according to xtreamer forum), by simultaneously hitting the reset and on button.

Finally, both the eTrayz and HDD was detected  and I was able to successfully finish my installation.

Hope this help others. :D

hi guys, i having trouble moving specific files into folders. moving whole folders into main folders on the root directory presents no problem. but once i start to move specific files or folders to sub folders, it wont allow it. from the e-connector it says i cant do it, on etrayz web, using the move function, i cant choose the sub folder i want the file or folder to be moved to.

any help / thoughts.  :D

EDIT:

got a work around on this, but i have to move the said subfolders to the root directory before i can move the said files and folder into it.

which is a hassle. i hope i am doing something wrong or else, they should add this feature, or maybe drag and drop...

Hi Iiinas,

Can you provide more info, pls:

0.  What software package is on your e-TRAYz?  Ver 1.0.4?
1.  Are you logged in to the e-TRAYz as "sysadmin" or as some other user?
2.  Which directory are you working in... e-TRAYz directory (which is restricted for sysadmin use)?  Or Public directory?
3.  What OS are you using on your desktop/laptop?
4.  Have you tried manually mapping the drive in your OS, so that you don't need to use e-TRAYz Web or e-Connector?

I just tried using e-TRAYz Web now:
1.  Was able to create a folder "Sharespace" in the "e-TRAYz Disk" directory (I logged in as "sysadmin").
2.  I created two sub-folders named "Test 1" and "Test 2" inside "Sharespace".
3.  I was able to move "Test 2" inside "Test 1"

I don't seem to have any problem so far.  Does the above more or less duplicate what you're trying to do?

I just tried creating another folder "Notsharespace" in the e-TRAYz directory.
Was able to move the entire "Sharespace" folder into it using e-TRAYz Web.

The "Move" function appear to be working fine

Again using e-TRAYz Web, I was able to move files and folders nested within folders (2 levels deep) without problem.  No need for me to move folders to the "root directory" (I assume you mean the highest-level of e-TRAYz Disk).

what username are you logged in to Etrayz brader? sysadmin or root or personal username?

edit:
I encountered the same problem awhile back. It seems I don't have write permissions to specific folders. Try the ff:
1) log in as sysadmin (via ssh or putty)
2) chmod -R 777 <folder name you want to have write permission>

i am logged in as sysadmin. so i have to do linux via putty? hehe, am so afraid of this. if ever i install putty, i just type "chmod -R 777 + (folder name)"? and that's it?

and i can actually write but only for folders on the root directory, if its inside folders i cant move it. so the above will solve my problem?

I have recently installed "TheHijackers PHP application installer V1.0". With this application in Etrayz, we can add some useful third party applications to etrayz via a webGUI (para sa mga katulad ko na alang alam sa linux ;D . Let me try to create a simple guide on how to install the  "TheHijackers PHP application installer V1.0".

1) Make sure you already have an IP address for your Etrayz.
2) Download an SSH client(in this guide, I'll be using putty.exe). donwload putty here -->http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ (http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/)
3) Run Putty.exe. It should look something like this
(http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2756/4409525877_41b4ffa0c2_o.jpg)

4) Put your etrayz' IP address in the "host address" field (seen in the red box above)
5) When the Putty prompt appears. Log in as: "root" and password is your sysadmin password
6) Once logged in, copy the ff: text as is in the prompt and hit ENTER

Quote
wget -P /tmp http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4598877/installer/installer_v1.0_base.zip && sudo -u sysadmin unzip /tmp/installer_v1.0_base.zip -d /home/sysadmin/WWW/installer && rm /tmp/installer_v1.0_base.zip

7) Once installation is done, you can now access your PHP installer in your favorite web browser using the ff: address

http://<etrayz IP address>:8000/installer

8) From there you can now install other applications through clicks only ;).
Some noteworthy apps are Transmission, Folder gallery, file manager

This was based from thehijackers install guide seen here
http://forum.xtreamer.net/viewtopic.php?f=168&t=12098&start=0&hilit=php+installer (http://forum.xtreamer.net/viewtopic.php?f=168&t=12098&start=0&hilit=php+installer)

I didn't have to run Putty, chmod or run other applications, etc.  Works perfectly for me just as it should.  What software package version is on your e-TRAYz?  I'm on 1.0.4.

You might try shutting down the e-TRAYz, then restarting it?

Hi seymorebutts,

Instructions for USB backup copy are on page 97 of the e-TRAYz User Manual (you can download it from the Xtreamer website).

You cannot select individual files or folders - it backs up the entire USB drive into the USB_Copy folder (in the Public folder) on the e-TRAYz.

Please try to check the forum first, to see if this is a stable operation.  Before, a couple of people posted about their issues with the USB Copy function.  I have no idea if the problem was with their USB device, or with the firmware.

Title: Important tip on Dynamic DNS and HDD Sleep
Post by: Bitstream on Mar 08, 2010 at 07:24 PM
If you plan to use the dynamic DNS facility provided by Xtreamer
(so you can access your e-TRAYz over the internet, by entering
something like http://yourname.myetrayz.net), do not enable
Sleep for the hard drive(s) when setting up your e-TRAYz.

When HDD sleep is enabled, scheduled activities such as refreshing
your IP address cannot take place.

Hi,

Question.  Has JBOD been implemented already with the newest firmware or RAID-0 is still the simplest method of using the two bays?  Thanks.

Hi,

JBOD is not yet available in the current firmware.  The simplest method is to set up the two hard drives as distinct and separate devices.

First, you install the first drive as "Linear".  Then you install the second drive as "External".  (Don't be confused - "External" doesn't mean 'outside of the e-TRAYz enclosure'; it means 'external to RAID').

You can read about this in the e-TRAYz section of the Xtreamer Official Forum.

I guess what I'm looking for is, if I can swap hard disks without losing any data. For example, I have 4 hard disks, and each has only 1TB.  Can I shutdown, remove a HD, and plug in the other HD, and simply power-up the device without any further setup, and of course, without losing any data during the transition?   :)

I am able to send the test mail while using sysadmin account.
1) Logged in as sysadmin and went to Settings->SYstem->Mail(SMTP)
2) filled up the ff:
Server for sending mail(SMTP):  smtp.gmail.com       GMAIL
Mail ID (Account Name)        : [email protected] <Email address entered here will be the sender>
Mail Password:              <Enter the password to your account in the Mail ID field>
  Confirm Password:          <retype password above>
3) Clicked Send Test Mail

What should happen is that a test email will be sent to your registered email in your sysadmin account.

I haven't tried this, so I can't say if it's workable.  As I see it, the first HDD shouldn't be swapped out.  It has the software utilities, user and share info, etc. residing in it.  The second HDD might be a different story.

Try to visit the Xtreamer Official Forum.  There should be some answers there.

I will too, when I get the chance.

@oReOsHaKe I use transmission installed via the hijacker mode posted earlier on the thread.  UI it's much more friendly than the default client and has more info.

But I believe you can use the built-in e-Torrent client of eTrayz.  Just upload the torrent file and it should work.  I tried it before installing Transmission and I was able to download even on private trackers.

The included software does not limit you to pulling in content listed on MiniNova.  Just upload the torrent file to the e-TRAYz - it should work.

I had been experiencing that same error using both etorrent and rutorrent. Also, I experienced having missing torrents. I still do not know what the problem is.

Hence, I installed the transmission client torrent and I am now having stable downloads and max-ing out my ISP's bandwidth :)

if you know the IP address of your etrayz you can type this directly in the address bar of "My Computer" prefixed by "\\"(something like \\192.168.0.107) . From there you should be able to see some folders shared by etrayz.

^thats odd.. but you can connect to the web GUI of etrayz right? Kindly also check that you have enabled CIFS in Etrayz under Settings->Service->CIFS and that your PC and Etrayz are under the same workgroup.

Got it boss!!!  Thanks a lot.  The problem was both PC and Etrayz have different workgroups..  ;D ;D

Sir Raptor can you help with how to link my TVIX with the etrayz?  I saw this one in the forum but I don't know where and how I can do this:
1. Logon to the etrayz as root using putty.
2. cd to /etc/samba
3. cp public tvixhd1
4. vi tvixhd1 and change the first line from [PUBLIC] to [TVIXHD1] and leave everything else the same.
5. vi smb.conf and near the bottom where you see: include = /etc/samba/public add: include = /etc/samba/tvixhd1
6. /etc/init.d/smb restart

Part II NFS Share

1. Logon to the web interface of the etrayz as sysadmin then go to Settings->Services->NFS
2. If the NFS Activation checkbox is not already checked, check it and click save.
Then you should see the Export IP list.
3. Enter the IP address of your TViX and click save.
The IP address should now be shown on the list of Registered IPs.
4. Now logon to the etrayz using Putty as root.
5. ln -s /home/Public /tvixhd1
This will create a soft link so that /tvixhd1 points at /home/Public
Now we need to add this name to the exported file systems list.
6. vi /etc/exports
7. Go to the line starting with /home/Public followed by the IP address of your TViX and press yyp
This will make a copy of the line.
8. Insert a # at the beginning of the original /home/Public line
9. On the line you copied, replace /home/Public with /tvixhd1 and save the file.
What was done in these two steps was export /tvixhd1 instead of /home/Public (though they point at the same place) and kept a copy of the original export line just in case you need it again.
10. /etc/init.d/nfs restart
11. ps -ef |grep nfs
See if the four nfsd lines show the current time in the fifth column.
11a. If nfsd didn't restart go back to the web interface and uncheck the NFS Activation checkbox, click save, and then check the NFS Activation check box and click save.

Sir I don't know what a putty is..Is this similar to DOS? How do you logon to the root?

By the way, I tried wired videostreaming of M2TS 40gb file and 1080p mkv files from my den to bedroom.  I tried this with the Xtreamer and mede8er and both showed stuttering of the large M2TS files using NET  but with the xtreamer using ETRAYZ NO PROBLEM whatsoever. Just don't know why this happened with NET but all in all I'm  VERY HAPPY with the streaming using the XTREAMER ETRAYZ network.  Thanks to Sir Eric for the inputs.  IMO, this machine has already answered my problems with regards to videostreaming for my bedroom.

I also tried its downloading feature using etorrent, I can't find the download speed feature but I think it's fast.

what username are you logged in to Etrayz brader? sysadmin or root or personal username?

edit:
I encountered the same problem awhile back. It seems I don't have write permissions to specific folders. Try the ff:
1) log in as sysadmin (via ssh or putty)
2) chmod -R 777 <folder name you want to have write permission>

this one worked for me. thanks brader andrew for the walk through.  ;D

brader andrew or sir eric,

i use my wife's macbook, and from its finder, under shared, the etrayz is immediately recognized, once i connect to it as sysadmin, everything works out ok. when she connects using the log in name and password i made for her as a user, she was also able to enter, problem is she cant access the folder made for her. although its being shown on screen, once she clicks it, it says directory does not exist.

any thoughts? thanks.

I'm using a 100Mbit router and it is very slow for me(need to upgrade to a Gigabit router ;D ). I also used the USB copy and for me its faster via network copy.

Could you try logging to etrayz using your wife's account and using your S10. Baka sa sharing ang problem. You might try to check under Settings-> Service and check either NFS or Apple talk(Hindi ko sure alin dito ang ginagamit ng MAC eh) baka kelangan mo lang i-enable. (Hindi ako MAC user, kaya hula lang ;D )

i have a gigabit ethernet switch connecting my eTrayz and TVIX - result is flawless playback of 1080p movies ... i do not have info however on how fast the transfer rate since i'm doing file transfer usually from my PC which is on wireless-N to eTrayz and TVIX ... for wireless-N, max speed that i'm getting is 3.2MBps (25.6 Mbps)

Theoretically, the max speed of Gigabit Ethernet is 1,000 Mbps, while USB 2.0 is 480 Mbps

Sir, i just saw this post today ...putty is a terminal emulator ... it's a free application that you can download over the Internet ... once installed, a terminal window will open prompting you to input the ip address (address of eTrayz) of the host you want to connect to via ssh (this is a secure connection), and the login name and password (login: root / password: the password that you defined in the sysadm account) .... hope this helps

There's only 1 known Wifi dongle for the A-110 called the TPLink 821N.

Works well enough for 720p. 1080p malabo... the processor of the A-110 isn't fast enough kaya even the USB ports just don't get the data fast enough.

Nope, no other connections to the router except my HTPC and the etrayz. Do note that 100mbit pa rin ang router ko, I think USB goes around 480Mbps.

This might be folder permissions doc, you might not have write permissions on that folder. Also note that its really slow to un-rar those 4GB files. It usually takes 25-30 minutes for me to unrar everything. I am still in the process of finding a unrar utility thats built in to the etrayz/linux.

with all media today being turned into digital files, i doubt 4tb will last 3-5 years. i have two 1.5 tb installed. barely 1 month use and i already consumed 1 tb. unless you are the erasing type of guy.

Hi! At the rate you're going, even 4 bays won't be enough in 4 months!   :D

I don't know if there's going to be anything special about Xtreamer cameras. I know that AXIS-compatible cameras will work with whatever software they'll be releasing for use on the e-TRAYz.  No need to wait for Xtreamer.

Nope - I only package hard drives with the Xtreamer or HDX equipment.  When a promo
comes up, the HDD's are sometimes sold below cost.  If you happen to be looking for a
NAS or a player, grab the opportunity when available!

Hard drives are available at every corner at bargain prices. If you do your homework

To Etrayz gurus,

What is the correct way to add a new hard disk(blank) into HDD B in linear mode that does not remove the contents of HDD A?  I've read in the manual on page 30 that changing the raid mode from linear to raid 1 to linear will delete all files overall.  Can I use ADD a new Hard Disk(using as external disk) for HDD B (page 31 of manual) to preserve the contents of HDD A? Hope to hear from any of you guys.

Has anyone tried other media players other than Xtreamer and TVIX 6500 that does not stutter when connected to the etrayz via LAN(using NETSHARES or NET)?  I tried na kasi mede8er pero it stuttered when I used NETSHARES.  Kasi I'm thinking of adding another player that is compatible with the Etrayz.  Kung wala, I'll just buy another xtreamer.

got my etrayz yesterday. unfortunately, during installation had some issues with my router so i restarted the installation. when i did, it didn't accept my installation key anymore. asked bitstream about it and he advised me to check the support forum. apparently this issue happened to several buyers. now i'll be sending the sys admin for a new installation key. well i hope he replies quickly.

this is really frustrating. what's the point in printing the installation key at the bottom of the unit if you can only use it once! what if you buy a windows software and you can only use the license key once. if you somehow mess up your installation or want to re-install, then you have to search for someone who can give you a new key. >:( really unbelievable!

Hi raptor. PLDT DSL user here too. the internet accessibility is working naman. naka static ba IP add ng etrayz mo?

Yes sir on static IP ... i'll probably have to reset everything again ... i'll be adding a hard disk anyway and may have to reset everything - i originally have it set for RAID1, and setting it to RAID0 would require reformat - good thing that the contents i have in my eTrayz are only duplicates.

Sir, can you please share your setup, just in case i cannot get it working ... in my case i'm using a Linksys WRT150N router ... IP address of my router is 10.10.10.1, and the static IP address of my eTrayz is 10.10.10.103 (wired connection) ...tried both DMZ and port forwarding, no success so far...i must admit that my initial setup using the wizard was quite messy as I had to do some retries after my initial mail test did not work ... my PLDT DSL modem's IP is 192.168.1.1 (i'm able to access this, but there's very little settings to change).

I have a Globe Tattoo which I use to test connection, but no success ... it's on the forums that it is not possible to connect from the internal network using the DDNS, but I tried it anyway - result was I'm directed to the web interface of the PLDT DSL modem when trying to reach it from inside network.

TIA :)

hmm.. 1st step is enabling the dmz and setting DMZ Host IP Address to 10.10.10.103. then you should get your external ip address. http://www.whatismyip.com/. and that's it. ex.  http://119.96.190.40:8080.

I didn't change the settings in my pldt's modem settings. on my router, I just enabled the dmz and the port forwarding and that's it.

also the gateway of your etrayz should be 10.10.10.1

check also the dns server in the etrayz when you set it to static ip. dapat meron. that's the one thing I forgot to put in kaya nagkaprob ako sa outside connection.

sir, did you use port forwarding or dmz. initially i used port forwarding first and cant get it to work. i eventually used dmz and it work. i also just used the set up wizard to set the whole thing up and it works.

when the etrayz says its dns is 192.168.1.100:8080, i just set the dmz on my router as 192.168.1.100 then set the ddns on the setup wizard to http: your_name.myetrayz.net, when the wizard accepts this. i tried using my we roam to connect and it good. i dont have to set the external dns of my isp.

ok naman ang settings. if it can access the internet then there's no problem in the dns. inaaccess mo ba through the internet using the same computer? if yes, baka sa settings ng windows lang prob. if you can provide me your ddns or external ip, pag naka on yung etrayz mo, pwede ko itry, if you like.  :)

i'm accessing it using another PC connected to another ISP (Globe Tattoo) and on my BlackBerry device which is subscribed to Smart, but no luck ... if I try to access it inside my network, I'm reaching the admin menu of the PLDT DSL modem

i really can't find anything wrong with the setup

you're right. that's wierd. kasi gumagana naman yung etrayz mo. I can ping your ddns  ben10.myetrayz.net and nag rereply yung dns mo na 122.53.171.43 w/c means gumagana yung dmz.

my guess is binblock yung port 8080 ng modem ng dsl mo since tama nmn yung config sa router mo. or try changing the default port sa etrayz.. bka sa kali lang mag work..

try mo rin activate UPnP setting ng etrayz mo plus yung UPnP Forwarding ng router.

anong brand ng pldt modem mo? mine is ZyXEL p600.. wala nmn na ako configure sa knya.

I tried to place a usb connected HDD to Etrayz.  It seemed to make the etrayz webpage crawl because when I removed the disk it returned to its normal pace.  I also tried  playing mkvs from the external disk via NETSHARES. For the 720ps no stuttering happened  but when it comes to 1080p major stuttering occured.

I'm not familiar with PLDT's broadband setup, however, based on your description that you are able to reach the admin menu of PLDT's dsl  modem instead of your xtreamer, then this means that the dsl modem is acting as a nat/router as well, and is probably using port 8080 for its web admin.  You might need to do port forwarding on the dsl modem as well.

Sir, connection type is DHCP (PLDT DSL), no need to setup or enter username/password ... the modem brand and model is DareGlobal DSL120 ... following are the only configurable items on the modem (note that these are the actual screenshots of my modem config) -

You may want to disable the DHCP settings of your modem then clone its MAC address on your router.  ravel is right in saying that your modem's NAT is actually turned on and is behaving like a router.

You might want to try calling PLDT tech support just to see if they actually can help you do this.  You can always claim that you host files on your local home network that you need for work and that the modem settings are preventing you from being able to get access.

ah ok. so its just using port 80 (http port) for the dsl modem admin.  in any case, since it is indeed acting a router, all traffic destined to that public ip address will be terminated to the dsl modem unless you can do port forwarding din on the dsl modem/router.  If you can disable the routing function of the dsl modem, acting as a bridge, you should be good. pero if they have mac-address filtering nga, as Verbl Kint mentioned, clone the mac-address of the dsl modem and use that on your wifi router.

Your modem doesn't allow ethernet bridge mode.

What you want is a modem that just sends "bridges" the real IP address PLDT provides to your wifi router.

It's your Wifi router that should handle authentication, DHCP, DynDNS and port forwarding.

I have 3 extra PLDT myDSL modems here sa office ko (that support bridge mode), I can give you one free of charge just to help you out. Basta here's what you need to know;

VPI/VCI: 0/100 for myDSL

You need to retrieve your circuit number because that's your myDSL username. It should be on your PLDT bill what your circuit number is for your DSL line. Your password then is {circuitnumber}@pldt.

There is a way to hack into the dareglobal... you have to telnet into it but if you don't know linux, medyo nosebleed and I can't instruct you how to do it easily.

Which features on your NAS are you particularly interested in accessing remotely?

If you want access to your  files, try checking if you can connect to the ftp server if it has one. It uses a different port if you think your ISP/Modem is blocking port 80.

You can try these instructions;

http://dataone.kimom.com/setting-up-port-forwarding-on-the-dareglobal-db108-adsl-router.html

This addresses how to get port forwarding done. Still cumbersome IMHO compared to just setting up the DSL model to act in bridge mode but at least you can be up and running.

Post by: Bitstream on Apr 29, 2010 at 02:49 PM
If you plan to upload then execute FW updates to your e-TRAYz, (e.g. Ver 1.0.3 or Ver 1.0.4  .bin files), you may find that yourself unable to upload the firmware in the first place.

If your web browser is Firefox, try using Internet Explorer (this works for me) or Google Chrome.  You should be able to send the update through using one or the other.

I'm not sure whether this glitch is due to a Windows 7 or a browser issue.  Whatever the cause - being forewarned will save you a lot of time during setup/upgrade of your e-TRAYz.

Anyone here accidentally erased their HDD when using the eTRAYz?  How did you revive the HDD to be recognized by NMTs?

Ive been working on an HDD that went through that (not mine) but I can only make it recognizable by PC even with a full format (2x already).   It wont initialize at all when connected to NMTs.  I have already consulted with the HDD maker but since the unit is fully recognizable through PC (their test rig) and actually works well for file management (copied to the brim 2x already) and playback via PC, the HDD maker wont comment on this issue (wont take responsibility for it).

Thanks!

Hi guys,

My Etrayz just stopped working.  Not sure what happened.  I just left it on to download torrents for four hours and now I can't access it.

My problem I think is the system is not booting up.  The HDD A indicator(red) is not turning on.  Only the power (green) and network (blue) lights are turned on.

I tried restarting the system for several times, and even removed the HDD to diagnose.  But the indicator lights are still the same (usually without HDD the red indicator flashes on and off).  Any help guys?  Before I send it back to Bitstream for repair.

Thanks guys! :)

hope you guys can help me ... i have already installed the software for etrayz ... was able to transfer my files to the server ... problem is .. when i turn off the etrayz and turn it back on, the usb light keeps on blinking (meaning the software is installing or not installed) ... i'm sure i installed the software completely as i was able to go to the wizard that setup the password, mail, ddns, etc ... what do you think is the problem?

i can't access the etrayz on my network, can't log-in ... the only way for me to access it again is by installing the software again ... :(

EDIT: found fix

i swapped my hard disk from slot a to slot b ... everything's fine ... although i'm not sure what will happen when i buy and install another hard disk ... :?

It's stable but I don't really see the improvement when it comes to accessing from the xtreamer.  But the etrayz connector and the web interface is more stable.

I think the problem between the Etrayz and Xtreamer playback through wired lan is with the xtreamer. I played a movie using my pc connected to the etrayz through the same router where my xtreamer is also connected and i didn't experience the stuttering or stopped playback that makes my xtreamer from etrayz always encounter.

Sir Daigoro are you using the Network shares folder in the menu of your Xtreamer?  Coz I experience stuttering when I use the network shares, but when I use the ETRAYZ folder from the menu, no stuttering occurs.

I think that there a problem with my setup. There are times that I can't even see the xtreamer on my network.

this is one of the reasons why i am really hesitant in upgrading firmware of both xtreamer and etrayz, my set up is now running smoothly, i can always see the xtreamer through my network. i can connect to my etrayz from both the internet and from the e-connector and best of all, watching movies using the etrayz connection within the xtreamer menu is smooth and flawless.

and one more thing, my wife's mac can also use the etrayz as a nas.

that's why for now xtreamer on 2.2 and etrayz on 1.04.

i think for a functional nas, the etrayz is the most inexpensive. needs a little tweaking though.

puno na yung 2tb hard disk na nilagay ko sa etrayz ... i'm planning on getting another 2tb hard disk ... i'm looking at 2 options on mounting .. i can add new hard disk in linear mode (not change raid mode) - this will combine my new 2tb with my existing 2tb, thereby making it one 4tb hard disk <-- is my understanding correct? ang problema pala dito ay if one disk fails, di na pwede ma-access ang etrayz according sa manual ....

the reason why i want to combine is so that i can access all of my movies in one folder only ... kase if i add the new hard disk and make it as a separate drive (adding new hard disk as external disk), then the movies that i would add sa new disk will be in a different folder from my existing disk ... <-- tama ba?

gusto ko kase when i access my movies folder on my xtreamer, andun na lahat ng movies ... no need to go to another directory or folder for the other movies ...

anybody installed 2 hard disks on their etrayz? anong mounting ginawa niyo? can you access all of the movies in one folder only? o do you need to switch from hard disk a or b?

i hope you can follow, pati kase ako naguguluhan sa sinulat ko hehe ...

Fyi, I was using a Linksys WRT320n router to connect my etrayz with a xtreamer using DMZ. The problem was that regardless of using IP or Mac address, the xtreamer would stop about 5 minutes in the midst of playing video. Just checked the linksys site and there was a newer firmware that what was installed in my unit and that seems to have solved the problem.

sir, i don't think that this function is available ... checking the manual previously, it seems that there's only a function for a one-way copy from USB external HDD to the internal drives of the eTrayz ... i cannot confirm this one however on the new firmware - i'll probably be upgrading the firmware when I return home this weekend.

it will be a NAS for my iMAC, a couple of other PC's, and the NMT (mede8er).

My etrayz is still running. However I think I corrupted the OS data on the etrayz. I tried installing a 2nd HD and installed it as linear mode. When I removed the 2nd HD, the problem started. I get this message "It can not be used because data area has not mount"

I tried connecting the HD to my imac via USB but the format cannot be read. Can I still retrieve the media files in the HD if I connect it to a Windows PC?

Thanks!

how about in copying files from nas to pc? ilang MB/s thanks
Kahit wired sir mabagal, using teracopy application nasa 6 mb/s lang. Not sure kung saan ang bottleneck, baka sa etrayz mismo kasi nag upgrade na rin ako sa gigabit router minimal to no i provement. AFAiK , hindi pa gigabit ang etrayz eh

Update:
Gigabit LAN na pala etrayz, will have  to check kung gigabit lan cables gamit ko, parang nabasa ko somewhere mas maraming "connected" wires in order for gigabit to work?!.

same bandwidth sya with my HTPC using private trackers. I get around an average of 160KBps. BTW, I am not using the default torrent client pre installed with etrayz. Transmission yung gamit ko na client.

Let me know, pag kelan ka punta ;D

i have my eTrayz for almost 2 years, function has been stable ... the only issue I had with the initial setup was the accessibility of eTrayz over the Internet, but this was due to the modem setup provided by PLDT - was able to correct this after several tweeks found in the Internet

I have my eTrayz wired on a Gigabit Ethernet network using Linksys WRT310N wireless-N router ... the only other device I have wired is my TVIX NMT player, I also have an Xtreamer NMT connecting to it via wi-fi, my PC, laptop, and Archos tablet connects to the eTrayz via wi-fi

Playing 1080p files from eTrayz to my TVIX NMT with the wired Gigabit Ethernet is like having the disk connected to the player directly, no issues at all ... cannot do this however from my Xtreamer, PC, and Archos, as significant lag is noticeable ... no issues however with SD and 720p videos over wifi on all the devices I use to play video.

Regarding file transfer speed, I usually transfer files from my desktop PC to the eTrayz over wifi-N ... i've pasted screen shots below for your reference ... the speed is quite satisfactory ... in the screenshots shown below, the speed is approx. 8+ MB/s for transferring files files from eTrayz to PC, and 6+ MB/s for transferring files from PC to eTrayz

PC to eTrayz over wireless-N, ~6.28MB/s ... takes around 30 minutes to transfer 10.8GB file

eTrayz to PC over wireless-N, ~8.62 MB/second ... takes around 10 minutes to transfer 4.37GB file

Note that I have my eTrayz at ver. 1.07 firmware

i haven't tried transferring file using wired connection, but if i have time later, i'll try it with my laptop and post the screenshots here

regarding those getting speeds significantly lower than what i posted (somebody posted just getting 2MB/s) ... also try updating the driver of your NIC (wifi or wired) ... i've noticed that when i was using the default driver from Windows 7, the transfer speeds were also low, when I installed the updated drivers from the manufacturer, speed improved significantly

thanks bro, i never thought using generic windows driver would hurt transfer speeds  :)

Thanks for the info sir. Hopefully makuha ko rin yung transfer speec mo pag naupdate ko na drives.

For Gigabit LAN, the standard cable to use is Cat6, although Cat5e cables can work ... just a note that if you're using Gigabit, you should be using manufacturer fabricated RJ45 connectors, not those that are manually crimped (chances are there will be high cross-talk that would not allow Gigabit speeds) ... if you would inspect a Cat6 patch cord, the connectors have PCB's inside and wires are soldered, not just crimped

bought cat6 20Meter from cdr king....mukhang peke.... was not able to transfer file between 2 pc beyond 12MB/s...ordinary lang speed ....my pc wont run at 1000speed (gigabit speed) even if i force bought pc adapter to run at 1000speed...pero pag yung short cable nila same cat6 din nag iengage yung 1000speed (based on realtek sofware analyzer) ......bought  a cat5e 20M cable from wilcon....ayun nagiengage na yung giga speed.....transfering files now at 50-40MB/s

i tried transferring file to and from laptop/eTrayz, both have Gigabit Ethernet interface but I was just using a crimped cable on my laptop and was not getting Gigabit speeds ... the results were representative more of a 100Mbps Ethernet connection, but still a good improvement from using wireless-N ... i got 11.0 MB/second on eTrayz to laptop file transfer and 11.1 MB/second the other way around  - 10.4 GB file took around 18 minutes to transfer ... below are the screen shots -

eTrayz to Laptop

Laptop to eTrayz

takeaway from this is that 100 Mbps wired Ethernet already gives a reasonable performance, and if you can make Gigabit speed work (having Cat 6 cables, and Gigabit switch), the speeds would probably be comparable or near USB 2.0 transfers

@raptor

sir, how would you know na connected na yung etrayz at gigabit? i have a gigabit switch wherein my desktop and etrayz are connected, sa pc nakikita ko na gigabit connection nya samantalang sa etrayz hindi, i tried enabling the jumbo frames from the lowest value of 1500 to 9000 pero hindi sya nababago kaya hindi ko alam kung naka gigabit connection ba sya. parang naalala ko i read somewhere yung 2 led sa ethernet port pag umiilaw operating at GE pag isa lang, FE lang.

thanks!

Anybody here still with working eTrayz?  I recently installed my eTrayz and it still works great.  Downloading via eTorrent was almost the same as downloading un-restricted..

Mine is still working great.  I watch HD movies from it.  I got this way back 2010 from Bitstream's group buy.

Mine's working also but the cooling fan conked out. Good thing its just a generic dual speed cpu fan. Easy to replace.

Hi guys!

New here.

Just thought you guys can help.

I have an eTrayz that I use for back ups, so its not on 24/7, this morning was about to back up some files, but my eTrayz wont boot up at all.  Before the HDDA and HDDB led will blink when powered on, but now the BLUE and GREEN led are steady right away (connected via cable).  And wont power off as well, need to pull out the power cord. :(

Hope someone can help here.

TIA.

a little help guys. i can't seem to make my etrayz work. i tried resetting it (as i'm not the first owner) by pressing the reset button for 3+ seconds and then turning it on while still pressing the reset button (am i doing it right?). then i installed the econnector software and reboot my laptop (WinXP).  after rebooting, i logged in with the internal IP of the laptop as well as the IP of the etrayz on the network (connected to my router via ethernet cable and confirmed that it is online) and used "sysadmin" for the username and password (default login) but i get "cannot connect server" when i login using the etrayz IP. when i use the laptop's internal IP, it just keeps trying to connect but does not really finish the process. all light indicators are working as it should as per manual. the HDD is a 3tb Purple WD surveillance edition, NTFS format (GPT).

Any suggestions on what troubleshooting steps I can take? Any compatibility issue on the components? TIA!

Does any1 still with this device running and were able to change OS to a debian, redhat or centos open version?

I'd like to try freenas or other option on it and get rid of the original OS.
