ok yang 8 inch floorstander for guys that want deep bass and don't want a sub great for audio. Auditioned the "klaro" bookshelves using these 8 inchers and they have a warm sound. You need good ss amps for this one. For tubes you need 50 watters for these babies

Is there a tweak you can recommend to improve the sound coming from cheap subs like the US Audio? Or it's not worth it and I should just replace them entirely?

Any members here who already tried a sealed (non-ported) type 10" or 8" subwoofer using a kevlar driver from Nirv? Please post your review. Please also indicate whether it is front-firing or down-firing.

avphile- I think that you should just replace the whole sub entirely. It is hard to tweak subs because the amp and the power supply that goes with it are matched with the speaker driver. If you just change the driver or the amp or the crossover, there would be a mismatch and it would do more harm than good.

a sealed sub needs more power and the more sensitive the driver for the sub the better.

From what i've read, bass drivers in sealed subs are better behaved resulting in more tightness and damping. translated: no boominess. This is preferred in Music reproduction. On the otherhand, ported subs produce greater sound pressure levels, all things equal. And they are good for HT applications. That's due to the fact the ported design use the backwaves of drivers to reinforce the overall low frequency response but at the cost of boominess. Having said that, there are well-designed ported subs that overcome this pitfall. You just have to pay more for such subs.

Hi losi_phile!

av_phile very well explained the comparative performance of each sub. I am more inclined to listening to music that is why i favor using the acoustic suspension type (aka sealed) of sub, no distortion even at higher volume, real bass sound, controllable LFE, and does not produce "ugong".

i like the likes of Sunfire True Subwoofer, B&W ASW600, Atlantic Technology, and MK, the kind of real bass i am looking for.

I suggest that you get this particular sub from nirvblakr. Di ka magsisisi. Ganda talaga for both HT and Music. Got mine last Thursday. Wharf 8.1 and diamond center din ang gamit kong speakers but with a yamaha rx-v430.

break in stage pa rin ako sir and have to read the manual to fully optimize the Hk, pre better use your Marantz frequently para ma-break in na talaga and will give you the best of Marantz
