sir question, yung source direct ba ng marantz just bypasses the tone and bass mgmt, or pati yung analog-to-digital conversion ng signals from the analog inputs (does the marantz do that in the first place?)?

i used to have an sr4200 pero di ko na maalala

S-Direct is a Source-Direct.

It by-passes all tone control in the receiver's section, meaning you can't control bass, tremble and even bass-managment.

Source Direct mode bypasses, tone controls and bass management for purest audio quality.

So lahat ng sound output will depend on the source.

Source Direct can also be made in Analog Inputs.

I think so, so yung Receiver will act like an amplifier only, hindi nya na kailangan na padaanin pa sa ADC kasi no need to control any tones or to supply a DSP.

Technically Marantz is better, no contest. Its just a matter of sound preferences.

What particular model of Marantz & Onkyo?

Okay, for example between the Marantz SR5300 and Onkyo TX-SR600.

Onkyo TX-SR600
95 watts/channel
192kHz/24-bit DAC
96kHz/24-bit ADC
Component Video In/Out
Speaker B
Price--?

Marantz SR5300:
90 watts/channel
192kHz/24-bit DAC
96kHz/24-bit ADC
More digital Outputs/Inputs
6.1 Analog Pre-Outs
CS II
Price--?

Almost the same.

But for Marantz SR4300 and Onkyo TX-SR500, again, techically Marantz is better.

I am not familiar with Valdus series. Can you please post their specs, speacially its sensitivity.

Well you can bring your speakers at A/V shops and audition them with your preferred receivers.

Sensitivity is good @ 8 ohms, I think any receiver can drive these speakers very well. Again, hear it for yourself... you decide.

If not mistaken, these speakers form a series and share the same drivers and tweeters.  Only difference is the cabinet size and number of drivers which increase as you go up the series.  So if your valdus 100 sounds good on your marantz, no reason why the higher series, presumably with better bass, can't sound just as good. What's your receiver's power and speaker impedance rating?

If you are planning to get the 6.1 Marantz then you could use the valdus for the rear then get another Wharf for your center and front. I just remembered that I saw Valdus at Virramall before. If you are in the area you can go to the 2nd floor and look for the shop Martin. Its one of the middle lanes, I just cant remember the exact lane. Just ask the guard or try going around the middle lanes. Virra Mall is very small so you would definitely find the place. Have you tried asking at Listening Room in megamall, they also sell Valdus before.

thanks sir.. visited listening room megamall last night and found that they no longer sell it. since its an old model.. would try greenhills.. if still unsuccessful, would then use wharfedale newer models to be used as fronts and center.. to save me time/energy from scouring shops/stores that sell that antique wharfedale models..  ;D

I read on the internet that Marantz and Denon has merged into the D&M Holdings company as of middle last year.

Just not sure if the local Denon support applies to Marantz as well.  Checking the Marantz dealer site http://www.marantz.com/p_dealers.cfm?continent=AM does not show the Philippines as one of their countries authroized for distribution.

From
http://www.marantz.com/hifi/america/

Any Marantz products that have been purchased from an UNAUTHORIZED dealer (Including, but not limited to - traditional retailer, mail order outlet, or online dealer) OR if the original factory serial number has been removed, defaced or replaced in any way WILL NOT be honored or serviced under the existing Marantz warranty policy. Marantz is aware of numerous instances in which such serial number tampering has occurred. Serial numbers may be altered by unauthorized dealers and/or their suppliers in an attempt to prevent manufacturers from tracing the supplier source. Marantz sells premium products only through authorized retail and online channels to insure that Marantz customers obtain quality pre-sale and after-sale support and service. PROTECT YOUR WARRANTY, buy from an authorized Marantz dealer or authorized on-line dealer, (if your are not sure that a dealer is authorized, please check the Dealer Locator section on our website or call us). After you have purchased any Marantz product, check the unit and its packaging to determine whether the factory serial number may have been altered. If you suspect your Marantz product has an altered serial number call Marantz America at (630)741-0300.

I know the person who supplied the Marantz receivers to the AV stores but he is willing to change the unit if found to be defective. Im not sure if he is the only one supplying or importing the receiver.
