any inputs on the Denon DCD 1400.  I read somewhere that this unit skips when hot.

Thanks.

thanks. I am just wondering how the Denon DCD 1400 sounds compared with the 1600, malayo ba ang difference.

Or, how the Denon DCD 1400/1600 compares with the Sony ES (333/5550.

Haven't heard the Denon DCD-1400 and DCD-1600, but last January I got a near-mint non-surplus Denon DCD-670 circa 1991 weighing about 4kg with Burr Brown PCM67 DAC and opamps upgraded to Burr Brown OPA2134. Over the weekend I picked up a Denon DCD 1610 surplus circa 1988 weighing about 10kg with Burr Brown PCM64 DAC and stock opamps.

The sound signature of both amps are very similar, though the bigger CDP seems to my ear just a bit more refined.

That sure looks like a gorgeous player.  If you don't mind. how much is the going rate of that in Hifido?

tnx anyways  :)

Terii,

Now I regret having passed on those Sansui alpha series CDs a couple of years back. There was a slim a907i CD player here being sold at roughly $30 about five years ago but I didn't get it since I saw rust on its cover's edges. Later, I saw an a707D Limited but the drawer was loose. I didn't know back then that all it takes was a belt replacement, which I now realize is easy. Another issue I have with these models is that they only have one set of RCA jacks, no variable outputs, unlike most Sony ES models.

Anyways, we're luckier here in the Philippines. The local Customs allows easy entry of these equipment since they consider these commodities as hardly having any value. French Customs people are much smarter. Good for us! BTW, Japanese vintage audio equipment in the Philippines are considered poor man's hifi since they are sold cheap. I guess it's the reverse there in Europe.

P.S.
Haven't you tried the Hifido forwarding service? They sent me an email late last year telling me they now ship overseas. There's also an American guy in Tokyo who referred me to his forwarding business website. He thought I'm based in the US and is bragging about his track record and his forwarding contracts with about a dozen small American technology firms.

Ah, shame that you hesitate to get these readers especially for the price, I checked on the other player, in fact the Alpha 907 has no exit variable too, it must be the same for all models.
On the French customs, it controls all parcels arriving from overseas, depending on the nature of the package, you must pay a fee for entry except from the European community.
HIFIDO for he uses the Japanese post service (EMS) to ship their packages, arrived in france CHRONOPOST INTERNATIONAL who is responsible for the distribution

Terii,

Thanks. I thought EMS is another forwarding firm. Yes, lack of variable outputs could be the standard among Sansui's alpha series CDPs. Having sets of fixed and variable jacks at the CDP's back, however, is an edge but not a must for me, since I can compare, A/B, performance of two amps. The variable outputs also provide remote volume control option, outside of the amp.

Rene, bago mo itapon o ipamigay, i check mo muna yung mga variable resistors niya. Yung may label na TRK at FCS ang kalikutin mo. Madaling makita yung adjustable resistors, plastic na puti or yellow, or blue -- parang maliliit na butones, palaging may ekis sa ibabaw. Maganda yang 502ES, originally sold at 160,000 yen.
