Well sir, it was humming coming from the body vibrating. Very low lang naman. No speakers. Will try to get the unit and have it checked. Oo nga pala, the fuse always blows. Would it be advisable to bring to Fil-Audio? With schematics naman in case wala silang copy.

???  Yung base at treble ay step switch type eh so no problem. So pag meron kang preferred volume setting, e pwede mong  i set yung mechanism doon, and every time you move the volume knob, it kinda snaps to that position.

Di ko pa nasubukan patugtugan ng plaka. Try ko sa sabado.

swerte ka. it's still selling up to $500 in US eBay. VFETs are hard-to-find type of gear anywhere. your unit should sound like an efficient/high-power tube amp (the Japs stopped producing VFETs -- known as solid state valve sounding amps -- before the Americans and the Brits could catch up.) i-register mo ang serial number kay axel (The Vintage Knob). ingat sa gamit, pag nasira yan almost junk na raw.

Thanks for the info sir Sandawa, Meron kaibahan ang tunog niya as against my Sansui's and my other Sony.  Parang airy na masarap naman pakinggan. Will do what you suggest sir sa Vintage Knob at aalagaan ko to. Again thanks.

sobrang mura nyan. i bought my Yamaha B-3 (70wpc rms/8 ohms) at P5K dito sa Davao and i thought it was a bargain!

great find at a great price, sir rnb  :o

Although it wouldn't qualify as an amplifier on this thread, share ko din yung jackpot ko last weekend....

Pioneer SPEC-1 pre-amp at a bargain price of 3K  ;D

Ganda naman niyang SPEC-1 mo sir Parasmi! Me partner na power amp na ba yan?  :)  Been looking for Pioneer din kaya lang no luck pa ako sa ngayon. :(

Sir Rascal,

Fuse will alway blow because the fault that caused it hasn't been corrected.    I don't know about Fil-Audio, but since it has a schematic, any veteran techie should be able to diagnose and repair it properly.

I'm an SS guy who likes dynamic and loud music, not very fond of tube sound. But I also want to hear valve gear sometimes (I still have two tube amps, thus I could compare) and the VFET is an option. My impression is that it sounds distinct, comparatively thinner -- medyo manipis tumunog, approximating valve's "sweetness", which some describe as "coloration." Almost all VFET users in Audio Karma have the same observation, by the way.

I have received offers from AK members wanting to buy my VFET power amp, as high as $500 (freight charges on them), and I was almost tempted early this year to say yes. However, I found the proper match to it a few months back: An Onkyo p306 preamp and a pair of Denon SC-104 vintage speakers. Very nice sounding combination.

Hi guys.  Just stumbled onto this thread.  Can I get directions/tips/hints on how to go to these surplus shops?  I'm interested in these old-skool amps, and more recently old-skool speakers.  I was listening to my father in law's old-skool JBL studio monitors, and I was wondering if these shops carry those old JBL/Boston monitors (the three-way ones).

If I can find those monitors, I might just sell my Diamond 9.1 set and stands. . .

Thanks in advance!

HT amps of the late 80s are PRO-LOGIC amps that just simulate 4 channels into 4 amps (except for some flagship models that have 5 separate amps) - Left, Right, Center and Surround which makes use of two speaker connections.  You won't be able to enjoy the discrete 5 channels of DVD sources, but you can still play them in stereo mode and then swtiching the receiver to prologic mode to simulate 4 channels.

I also got one like that here in Davao two weeks ago and posted it immediately at Audio Karma. I was also lucky with another vintage gem last week: an NEC A-10 Type IV.

pioneer a-uk3 is either the jap version of the a-400 or a-400x, whatever, oks lang ;D

btw, its got 2 sets of speaker terminals marked for biwiring - the top set-HF, the lower set-LF.

got it for 2.1k pero sira yung power button (always ON) no big deal.

tnx mike! :) :) :)

sandawa,

idol, tnx!  ;D

worth the long wait, early 90s nakita ko a400 & a400x dito sa pioneer raon showroom, selling for 9k yata. i had the nad304 that time so pinalampas ko along with the 300R precision. nabasa ko din during that time yung rave reviews ng a400 and the mixed reactions to the a400x. sana may maligaw na nad3020 at audiolab 8000 ;D

you're a very lucky guy. for that price, what you got is the A-400 equivalent: http://www.gbaudio.co.uk/data/a400.htm

sandawa,

medyo nalilito ako sa a-uk3 / a-uk3ii & a-400 / a400x

sa pictures dito =>kamuka ng a-400x ang a-uk3  ko
http://www.hifigoteborg.se/photo%20arkiv%20amplifiers/photo%20arkiv%20amplifiers/PIONEER_A_400X_detail.htm
http://www.hifigoteborg.se/photo%20arkiv%20amplifiers/photo%20arkiv%20amplifiers/PIONEER_A_400X_BAK_detail.htm

if the a-uk3 = a400x, & a-uk3ii = a400 it seems the pairing isnt quite matched. usually mark2 versions come after the orig. in this case i assume a-uk3 is the orig and a-uk3ii is the succeeding version. since the a-400 was released before the a-400x so it should correspond to the a-uk3, rite?

dito=>30wpc/8ohms ang a-uk3, di ba a-400 & a-400x around 50wpc?
http://www11.plala.or.jp/teikakakucosme/PIONEER-EXCLUSIVE/amp/a-uk3.html

anyway, bottomline, im enjoying the a-uk3 now. simple and straight just like the minimalist MF & other bloody effing limey amps of yore ;D
cheers!
